The Safe Haven

The wooden boards tell some forgotten yarn,
I suppose that is why I choose to sit here, safe from harm.
Now I dip my toes in the murky sea,
And think.

Empty, empty, space.
Looks me right in the face.
I sigh and realize I'm alone,
No one else could possibly dethrone
That monster of monsters,
That killer of killers.
How will I go on?

Creak. Thump. Thump. Thump.

“Harry, what are you doing here?”
Just wallowing in my own fear...
I look up and see the beautiful emerald beads -
They look so worried and so in need.
In need, of not something but someone.
In need, of not the fish in the sea,
Just me.
Me?

I sigh and tilt my head,
Looking at the wood instead.
Wondering, Wondering,
How she'd feel when I was dead.
I could not possibly fight and stay alive?
No, I had escaped unscathed too many times.
“I don't know, I was thinking about how....”
I got up dissatisfied with the truth,
I couldn't tell, so I remained mute.
Standing up and stretching my arms,
I walked away from where I was safe from harm.
And realized then with an agonized pain,
That I could never be the same,
As I was now for the love of my life.
I would not leave unscathed.

Thump. Th-Thump. Th-Thump. Thump. Creak.

We walked away in silence.
