Story Notes:

Thank you to Lexi/Harry_Rulz for being a fabulous beta. Also thanks to the following people for their critique of the original poem: HGHR_fan, mahogany_wand, Phia Phoenix and Cwiddy! -hugs-

Sometimes the night calls to me.
Sometimes the stars shine bright,
But sometimes they’re blocked out
By cold, artificial light.

Sometimes I step outside.
Sometimes the moon is there,
But gradually it drifts behind clouds,
Leaving me longing for
Its comforting beams.

Sometimes the moon’s a slim crescent,
Sometimes it’s growing, then full --
And after all that, it begins
Shrinking to make the new moon…

I can’t always see its every shine;
Although I wish with my heart for it all --
The stars and the moon,
And somebody to share them with.

My only friend was born a Muggle;
My only friend loves the stars, too --
My only friend will watch the stars...
But is she seeing the same stars as me?

And why will she never watch with me?

Most of the time I stay where it‘s warm.
Most of the time I cannot see
The stars, for the moon blocks their shimmer
When it’s full, though when it wanes
The positions are reversed.
The stars flood the sky,
While the moon decides to hide…

But the stars, the moon and the dark
Are some of my few comforts;
I wish for them always to be there…
But maybe since the pattern’s not constant
That makes their draw stronger…?

But I wish I had them in their entirety,
A full moon and a smattering of stars --
Every night, especially on the darkest…
So why aren’t they always there?
