As he fell to the sand, bereft.
He felt the emptiness consume,
Its reach a velvet, fiery plume.
His two best friends right from the start,
As good as kin inside his heart,
Lay starving, lonely, far away.
The world changed so much that day.
Not roof or warmth or repast could
Restore his peace. No, nothing would,
Save going back to take his place
Amidst the gruelling, deadly chase.
The boy who left was born again,
And in his place, there stood a man,
Who pledged unto the stars and moon
That he would find his way home soon.
