Chapter Notes: First off .... the title (October) was taken from a song by Evanescence, (October) with was one of my prompts for the challenge. My poem was also based off the song The Lass from the Low Countree. Many, many thanks to the amazing Natalie (hestiajones), Envy_I_May_Be, and Gwen Evens for their help on the boards.

In a field where the wildflowers grow,
hidden behind a dangerous wood
Lies a fair and beautiful princess,
dreaming in peace as she should.

In a fen no soul should ever seek,
concealed by both beasts and stench
A poor and starved peasant lie shivering,
his dreams of her his heart wrench.

They had met by a river bright blue,
on a summer's day just as clear
He bestowed her a wildflower,
but before the start, the end was near.

She left him with nothing but a far off hope,
she loved him, though it couldn't be
Again he would pray, dream, they meet,
but she was a witch and what was he?

As the seasons came and seasons fell,
she would remember his gift
And escape to the field where they were plenty,
hoping the memory her spirit lift.

It was a cold October when hope was lost,
as the fair princess cried and cried
Flowers died, her world turned grey,
until he came and lay beside.

It was as if he was in a dream,
stroking her hair pure gold
And trying to calm the beautiful princess,
he conjured another flower behold.

For scores and scores the two just lay,
his eyes twinkling and gleaming like stars
It was then with joy they shared a kiss,
while she whispered his name: Salazar.

But come next October, colder than the last,
only the fair princess would remain
With the flowers he would slowly die,
and she would never be the same.

In a field where the wildflowers grow,
the same October her love leave
They lay down the Princess Helga,
no more will she grieve.
