I Saw by BrokenPromise

I saw, one day, my mother
and her companions found
a school of magic.
I saw students learning, growing.
I saw myself among them,
and them in me.

I saw, still young, love:
a fervent chase, a man
who would do anything for me.
I saw my life in his arms, miserable.
I saw his persistent proposals
and my repeated refusals.

I saw my mother grow sick and dim;
A sapphire round;
The darkness of forests.
I saw, once again, my admirer.
I saw his knife dart in anger, and my life
drain away, red against white.

I saw nothing in death,
but in returning, a penance.
As I returned to her school,
I saw my mother wipe her eyes.
I saw the Baron enchained to the earth
by his true love, devotion and resilience.

I saw, in my eternity, many men rise and fall.
People searched for my mother’s diadem,
but only twice did they suceed.
I saw my mother’s castle in ruins.
I saw jubilation etched on every face, yet
indescribable pain clear in their eyes.

I saw too much in my lifetimes,
whether I wanted it or not,
or did me any good.
I saw though, nevertheless:
I saw, and I will keep seeing
until I can see no longer.
