Unspeakable
Drowsing, so tired,
Lies the balding man on guard,
Slumped over in sleep.
Oncoming, slithering-
A powerful, supple snake.
Fangs full of venom
Taste sweet tainted air;
Undulating, serpentine,
She slowly moves on.
He stirs! He stirs now!
Lightning strikes to knock him down,
Oozing scarlet blood.
Sensing the danger,
Her diamond tail whips around,
Slithering out, gone.
*This poem is a gift for Broken Promise, who challenged me to write some shorter poetry, and then subsequently critiqued the results. She has been a huge help! Thank you, Broken Promise. I couldn't have done it without your insistent messages. ;)
