Salire
I am just a collection of the fancy
chocolate frog cards, mounted up
on the bulletin board surrounded
by streams of Wizarding photos.
Everyday, famous witches blush
at my presence, respected wizards
nod acknowledgment when I pass by.
Eagerly, I absorb their wisdom, wish
to be like them, famed across the lands
for a good deed (I could never stomach
being known for something silly).
And when all my older siblings
come of age, show off their pride,
graduate with twelve N.E.W.T.s, gain
respectable positions, I bathe in the glow
emanating from the bulletin board, pretend
to be part of the larger society.
Now life is just a hunt for those
delicate frogs that hold within them
dreams, hold within them
the coming future, hold within
a young freckled boy who just wishes
to be remembered,
wishes to be
the brightest
of them all.
