In Anguish
Jagged edge, a picture torn-
Her sad expression says it all.
She is alone, no longer laughing,
No longer a face glowing with love.
Curtains of red hair hide her shame,
Obscure the guilt harbored within
Those dying green eyes. And yet,
A smile stays, captured by
That one moment, engraved into the
Photo that threatens to never change.
He can see the pain- can feel the utter
Loneliness. Try as he might, the tears
Refuse to yield, come as they will,
Searing his skin down to his very soul.
She gazes at him with a silent plea;
The anguish pulses throughout his veins.
They are two trapped entities:
She in her abandonment,
He in his betrayal.
She stares out and, in a moment,
Eyes lock, almost in recognition-
The person she once was
Meeting the person he never became-
Never realizing that
The pain will
Never dissipate.
