Dawn (Go Away)
I see the flushed sky,
rays of hope climbing on the sidelines,
but ash still reigns here.
And I see the golden Sun,
fiery in all her glory,
but Death draws ever near:
I do not wish to see this red dawn.
The shadows slowly furl away,
retreating from expansive light,
but I still run from there.
And even the clouds slowly dissipate,
revealing the stretching heavens,
but all it does is lay Death bare:
I do not wish to see this red dawn.
Blood gleams from the sunshine,
flowing freely from their veins,
but it does not mask this gruesome sight.
And in their eyes, a light still flickers,
memories still play over again,
but all their souls fled during the night:
I do not wish to see this red dawn.
Eternal hope was promised--
victory was to be gained--
but surely Life has left us in the dust.
And still we fight the Fates--
still we search for elusive Destiny
but, alas, she took advantage of our trust:
I do not wish to see this red dawn.
A heartbeat sounds--is it mine own?--
breath struggles for release;
And now I’ve fallen to the ground--
my spirit soon will cease:
I do not wish to see this red dawn!
O Timeless Dawn--go away!
Take with you all these plights,
bring back the savior Darkness--
relieve me of these sights:
I do not wish to see this carnage--
this endless red dawn.
