A Werewolf as a Dinner Guest by mcclure_512

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Who would want a werewolf as a dinner guest? No one, that's who, and this poem is why. My creative writing teacher always said that humour is a disposable experience... but he's not around here, is he?

I really liked this. It was very vivid and very funny and reminded me very much of the song from the Hobbit about the Dwarves breaking all the china. So carefully, carefully, with the plates. :)

Vomica Domintor by AlwaysSS

Rated: Professors •
Summary: Hermione Granger and Severus Snape create a new potion together and discover some secrets about each other along the way.

This story is AU after book five.

Special thanks to my awesome beta, SometimeSelkie.

Very good story. You're very skilled at setting scens. I'd like to read the unedited version if you can send it to me.

Your Servant by Virgil

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: The name Severus means "servant." But whose servant was he? A poem about love that might have been.
Reviewer: XenaTwin Signed
Date: 07/03/11 Title: Chapter 1: Your Servant

I cannot say enough how much I LOVE this poem. The style appeals to me, as it is similar to my usual, and of course the subject is, as I'm sure many would agree, the underlying theme behind all the HP books.

Just a comment. The name Severus, like most of those in HP, has latin roots and translates, according to latin dictionaries to "stern" or "severe". JK has also confirmed this to be the root, and other online sources also say it has connotations of severity and strictness. I just wanted to point it out to you. However, none of that makes your poem any less awesome. You portray perfectly the self reflection and guilt that make the character so wonderfully lovable.

And I had issues with the length restrictions too, so I feel ya there. A "finished" poem cannot be forced to be longer. I hope they fix that.

Aberforth Dumbledore: A Love that Dare not Bleat its Name by Equinox Chick

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Aberforth Dumbledore was once infamous throughout the land for casting Inappropriate Charms on goats. He never responded to the claims, never gave his side of the story and lived with an odd reputation for decades.

But now he wants to set the record straight before Rita Skeeter has a chance to twist things furthur awry.

This is Equinox Chick from Hufflepuff and this is my entry in the Stirring category for the Winter Snows 09 competition on the MNFF Beta Boards.

I am not JK Rowling. Does that honestly surprise anyone!

This story won the 2010 QSQ Best Humour Fic - I'm still in shock.

Thank you to Hannah (coolh5000) for beta'ing this fic.

Dumbledore's Farewell by the opaleye

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary:
Then he gazed down at the wise old face and tried to absorb the enormous and incomprehensible truth: that never again would Dumbledore speak to him, never again could he help...

A poem.

Nominated for a 2010 QSQ Award!

Very nice scene setting. Two great lines worth mentioning: She held his hand and she held his heart, very poignant and visual imagery. Another fave is the entire two stanzas that paint the picture of the Dark Mark being vanished but how it little mattered with Dumbledore's corpse laying before them. Very disturbing and vivid image. Wonderful job with this peice.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the review :) I'm glad you thought the imagery was well done.

Taking Direction by WeasleyMom

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: What if the characters in the Harry Potter films were portrayed—not by actors—but by the book versions of themselves, as created by Rowling? How might things unfold on that set? What would the characters think of the changes made from the stories they’d already lived out… to the ones written for the script?

This fic is a series of one-shots, posted as chapters, each from the perspective of a different character who is dealing with the changes occurring between the book and the script.

Holy Movie Canon, Batman! This fic won the 2011 Quicksilver Quill Award for Best Chaptered Humor Story. Thanks so, so much!

LOL wonderful way to vent frustration at moron director Yates. I heartily apporve.

Author's Response: Hehe. Sometimes I do feel guilty, as I like Yates on some levels. But not on the levels that inpired the scenes I've written from the films. So there. ;) Thanks for reading and taking the time to review.

Promises in Glass and Rain by Gmariam

Wonderful story. Perfect portrayal of both Remus and Tonks. There aren't enough of these out there, so great job.

Author's Response: Thank you very much! It's so nice to get another review for this story!! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was the first time I'd written Remus and Tonks. I think seeing them in the last movie will be very sad! I was just looking through some other stories I've read and found a story called Promises by Nitwit Blubber Oddment Tweak x that I also really enjoyed. Happy reading and thanks for the review! ~Gina :)

The Lost Weeks by the opaleye

Summary: Hermione sits and thinks of the boy who left and why she did not follow.

Tied in first place for the 2011 Quicksilver Quill Award in Best Poetry.

Date: 07/03/11 Title: Chapter 1: Her thoughts linger on those silent weeks.

Wow, this is the sort of thing you have to read slowly and carefully to take it all in. Some lines seem simple but read again have much deeper connotations. This must have been an interesting challenge as I see the same line endings in each verse. Very interesting how you did that yet the story within the poem still progressed, and I could clearly see every scene you painted. I am very impressed with this. Very nice ending, I can just visualize the fade out.

Author's Response: Thank you :) Yes, the sestina is a rigid form of poetry and takes quite a bit of planning. Nevertheless, it was very satisfying to write. It's good to know that you thought the narrative progressed well within the strict rules of the sestina. Again, thanks for the review.

And will he, the man in the mask, revel more of his past?

Interesting start, looking forward to seeing where you go with this. Did Snape choose the path of ghost then?

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad that you like it. I hope that it makes sense. Everything should be a bit clearer by the third chapter. As for the ghost part, yes and no. Just wait for chapter three. It'll be up soon. I have chapter two in queue right now. Thank you for reviewing! MJ

Monochrome by Equinox Chick

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: Remus Lupin is an outsider by the very nature of his condition. But whilst his friends dream in colour, his nights are monochrome. It doesn't disturb him much, it's just the way he is.

Then a late night conversation changes his mindset in a way that scares him and makes him wonder what he actually 'is'. He cannot feel that way - not about Sirius Black.

OMM&P This jointly won BEST SSP QSQ at the 2011 awards. Thank you. And yay for Ariana who wrote Two to Tango - the other winner.

I am not JK Rowling, in fact I'm not even sure I'm Equinox Chick at this moment ...

This story is for Gina (Gmariam) who is celebrating her 21st birthday. :) It is a measure of how much I adore her that I'm writing this pairing for her.

Thank you very much, Kara (Karaley Dargen) for beta'ing this story for me.

Thanks also for teh flist for sticking by me when I was haranguing them. I owe you.

Due to an MNFF glitch, I have lowered the rating on this to 3rd-5th so people can read it. However this is normally a Professors rating. You click at your own risk.

Good job with this. You seem to have a good understanding of George's situation and feelings. I like the end where he talks to his reflection. I'm an identical twin myself, and I once mistook my own reflection for my sister and had a short conversation. She never lets me forget it lol. I also like how you portray Ginny's spunk.

Author's Response: Thanks for reading and reviewing! Haha, that's brilliant! I suppose it is an easy mistake to make though. Yeah, Ginny's spunk was really missing in the films and it was one of my favourite things about her so I try and add as much as possible.

The Interview by HalfASlug

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: 10th November, 1981. Severus Snape has been summoned to Hogwarts for the first time since the war. For everyone else the fighting has finished, but for him it must continue. He is about to learn the true meaning of 'anything' and who better to teach him than the Hogwarts Headmaster.
Reviewer: XenaTwin Signed

Excellent scene. I agree with the other reviewers you've really captured the flavor of both characters perfectly. I love how you allude to Dumbledore's ability to know things he shouldn't. Snape is such a complex character with his conceited air and self loathing at the same time. I like how Dumbledore plays and tests him like he's still a little boy. It's such a fine balance Dumbledore uses to keep Snape exactly where he needs him to be, for Dumbledore's own ends. I think the most interesting aspect of this story is seeing Dumbledore from Snape's perspective and seeing the intimidating aspect of Dumbledore's humor, like there is danger hiding just under the surface. Very intriguing, you did a wonderful job with this.

Author's Response: Thank you! Dumbledore probably had more spies than Voldemort and what he didn't know he could guess. And we saw with his conversation with Tom Riddle that he still sees his old old pupils as school children even when they have grow up so I suppose he could have used that influence over Snape as well. I think Snape was quite a mistrusting person, especially at this point, so I did try and show that he didn't fully trust Dumbledore until later (because he definitely trusted him completely in the end). Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed this! It's a bit different from what I usually write so it's great to hear that people liked it :)
