Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: This is an anthology of different Magical Creatures. All stories were written for Care of Magical Creature Class.

Chapter 4: Billywigs

This piece deals with a desperate man and how his family tries to fight his addiction to Billywig stings. A tormented Billywig tells this story. (First Place)

The Lady and the Snake by Houlestar

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: The snake was there, in the garden, intwined around the rosebush. Aurelia jumped, she hadn't seen it there before.
"It's more afraid of you than you are of it," said a soft voice from behind her.
She turned around, she hadn't seen Salazar there before.
"Is it true?" she asked.
"Is what true?" he snapped.

this is an interesting view and take on the beginning of Hogwarts. It explains how each of the founders felt about the beginning of the school and what they searched for in their students. I do think that there was room for more character development though. The conversations added a lot to the story and the age differences explained why there were a few different views, even Slytherin's view. I do not understand why Slytherin was so interested in Aurelia though...she was a worthless Mudblood, but at the same time he kept showing her things and telling her things which to me shows that there was more to his interest in her. The ideas that came from her on having separate houses made sense to me, although all the professors taught all the students which goes against the story line here.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story though and think it was well written.

Awful Boy by cmwinters

I have sat here and pondered all that is included in this story. I admit that a part of me believes that Lily could call upon Severus to help her with such an assignment as Dementors, but I'm not totally sure that at that time her parents would just allow her to take a boy up to her room. I also am not totally sure that Snape would want to be found in a Muggle household. He did love Lily, but he did appear to be opposed to Muggleborns being allowed at Hogwarts. He also was a Slytherin and if any other Slytherin knew about these visits, it may mar his character a bit. The characterization of Petunia was great though!

The many topics discussed here from Dementors, the Unforgivable curses, Horcruxes, and formation of Dementors is a bit mind boggling...and it would not surprise me that Snape would have this knowledge, even at that young age.

I do think that Horcruxes other then basic knowledge of what they were would be beyond him and I think that if he knew about them Dumbledore would have gotten information about them from him rather then from Slughorn.

Snape didn't seem to know that much about Horcruxes, at least in any of the books as I read them.

It was a very creative idea to have Dementors be born from attempts at making Horcruxes...and at first I was going to say something about them breeding...but you beat me to that punch.

This was a very thorough discussion of some of the darkest magics in the Potterverse and it has given me quite a few things to think about.

Alway fun to consider life from a view different from the human view! Have to admit that Cheshlin's cats are my favorites, but then I am biased!!! She is my sister! 8)

Author's Response: It\'s a challenge (at least for me) to put yourself on the shoes (?) of an animal, because you need to have some background on each one or something for it to work.

Well, I don\'t blame you, Cheslin\'s story is incredible :) She\'s got a quite original idea, and I know she will do a great job with it! Oh, and you are her sister? Well, I\'m more than glad to see you here, too :D

Very well described, but I have to wonder if there aren't a few too many descriptions in some places...I got lost a few times trying to put everything together into a coherent picture. Well written over all and a beautiful wedding! Maybe spending a bit more time on the feelings and tensions between the characters and less on the physical atmosphere would be better?

Author's Response: Thank you for this review, and I must say that I\'m going to agree with you on your assessment except for the fact that this was simply a fic to describe the \"physical atmosphere\" of the wedding. =)

I don\'t usually write fluffy-anything, so this was a change from my usual style. The idea for this came to me while I was sitting in church, so I decided to create my \"dream wedding.\"

There really isn\'t anything profound in this little fic; it\'s just a wizard magazine-type article. *shrugs* But then again, that\'s what I meant for it to be.

However, if I were to expound on this theme, I would definitely incorporate \"feelings and tensions\" rather than physical description.

Thank you once again, though. You gave me a comprehensive review for which I am immensely thankful.

~Julia

Chapter III - A Satisfying Disappointment now up!

Contains Deathly Hallows Spoilers!!
Reviewer: Cwiddy Signed
Date: 10/15/07 Title: Chapter 1: Prologue - The boy with the tattered clothes

The torments that a youth would feel, who had magical powers, but no one to show him how to use them. It is very sad that life can throw some of us to the curb, not giving us a chance at a true life.

To turn a simple apple that one yearns for into a poisoned piece of fruit that no one else can eat, to curse it for all others, is a power that can lead to other evil deeds. To be raised by a drug addict until the age of 7, with powers that just want to protect you, since Mommy won't. The facts of this life can be found throughout the world...and people turn away, not seeing the scared and hungry faces of the children that need help.

This boy has the chance to live a very dark life, if someone does not step in to assist him...his powers could rule him, not him rule his powers.

This is a wonderfully descriptive story and it starts the imagination turning. Seeing things that I have seen in the faces of children...who are forced to grow up too soon because their families cannot/will not care for them properly, this story touches the heart and I can't wait to see where it leads!

Author's Response: This version of the Prologue is significantly edited due to an issue the moderator had with my slightly/moderately descriptive scenes involving Trent\'s suicide attempts. I do wish that I could have portrayed him more accurately in this prologue, but you did seem to understand what I was trying to say about him.

Another thing about this story is that it\'s not as Angsty as most you\'d find in this section. It is very dark, but the prologue and first chapter is as negative as it will be for now.

What I\'m really looking forward to writing is how Trent reacts to being a kid for once.

Thanks for the review!

Being a Slytherin will definitely be a challenge for Trent...especially once his bloodline is found, but he has pride in himself...and given the right motivation could even be friends with the other children he met on the train. This story shows a lot of promise and I can't wait to see where the journey continues with young Trent.

Author's Response: You mean if his bloodline is found.. ^_^

Trent\'s primary friends have been introduced, as well as his enemy figure, similar to what Draco was for Harry, except, he\'s very similar, personality-wise, to Ron. (The boy named Weasley in this chapter is Hugo\'s son, named after Hugo\'s father.) Since Trent\'s personality is kinda/sorta based on mine, I figured that the person to annoy and infuriate him on a regular basis should be at least similar to the character that annoyed and infuriated me while reading the books.

I think my response was longer than your review!

Thanks again!
