M.I.T.: Haunted House: Dead by Northumbrian

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary:
A haunted house that isn’t haunted, a Muggle fortune teller who can’t actually tell fortunes and the legend of the Cursed Green Pearl! What happens when “the nation’s favourite television ghost-hunters” stumble onto something really magical? What (apart from a mysterious chest, a broken red stiletto and a corpse) lies within the topmost room of the Haunted Tower?

It’s time for the Auror Office’s Muggle Interface Team - Brown, Bones and Beadle - to investigate.

This is Northumbrian of Ravenclaw house writing for the 2011 Mysterious May Challenge in the Great Hall - Extra Credit Prompt

This is one of four mystery stories I wrote for the Challenge. Until now I’ve resisted editing this story as to do so will (I believe) mean that it can’t be judged as part of the challenge (editing after the closing date is cheating). I can’t wait any longer.

The Foolhardy Boys and Parvati, too by Equinox Chick

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Staring out of her dusty office window, Parvati Patil - now running a detective agency with Seamus Finnigan and Dean Thomas - is surprised when the glamorous Karis Flint arrives. Why would a rich society woman hire such an inexperienced firm? But when Karis explains that the Cordalis Diamonds have gone missing, along with her son, they know they have to take the case. For Karis' son is Blaise Zabini, the Slytherin from their year currently involved with Lavender Brown.

With Jonah Flint threatening to call in the Law Enforcers, can they find Blaise and the diamonds before the day is out?

This is Equinox Chick of Hufflepuff and this is my entry into the Great Hall Mysterious May Challenge - Prompt #3 - The Private Detective.

I am not JK Rowling, whoever told you that defamed her dreadfully.

Thank you Hannah/Bob (coolh5000) for beta'ing this story.

All chapter titles are songs from Elvis Costello. I'm not him either.

So glad that Lavender and Blaise stayed together after Lavender's Blue.
Looking forward to the next chapter.

Brilliant Neil, a tour de force, especially liked the "fragrant" Narcissa, so Archer.

Author's Response: Someone has found me out!
Archer and McLibel, but mostly Simon Singh v the British Chiropractic Association were my inspirations.

You must be a great dad Neil to be able to write with such insight.
Thanks for another lovely story.

Epithalamium by Northumbrian

Summary: Weddings don't just happen you know! They need planning.

Great chapter, Petunia does seem to be thawing slightly, perhaps due to Dudley's influence. Vernon still his old unlovable self. Loved the reference to single mother wriiter!
Nice to hear about Ernie, hope Lisa will save him from his family.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review.
Petunia was beginning to thaw in DH (I think). Vernon is a no hoper, and my timing, for once, was apt. I began writing this after reading the obviously libelous article in Vernon's paper, and just this week the paper has been forced to apologise (in it's usual "we're not really sorry" way). JKR is (of course) donating the damages to (an undisclosed) charity. I really hope it's going to go to the single parents charity at the centre of the row, simply because it's certain to annoy the paper and its readers.

Wow Neil you never stop amazing us!
Plots, characters, excitement, now fashion!
What a nightmare, Ginny, Hermoine and Luna in the same shop.
Brilliant!

Author's Response: Thank you.
I only hope that those nice people at Google don't let anyone see what I've been searching for over the past couple of weeks. Wikipedia gave me the basics (contemporary Western Wedding Dress). But then I had to figure out what the terms all meant. A-line, Empire, Trumpet? Blimey!
Ginny, Luna and Hermione were easy in comparison.

Really nice, Ron has a lot to put up with but they do love him.
Good to see Harry getting used to his fame and even using it to get a special gift for his best friend.

Author's Response: Thank you. This chapter is all about Ron'e relationship with Harry and Hermione.
I really can't see Harry using his fame for himself, but he would for his friends.

Great idea for a series.
Can't imagine what the Hen Night will be like with all these wild girls!
Keep up the good work.

Author's Response: Thanks
Fortunately, I haven't reached the hen night yet. You can guarantee that Lavender will behave badly.

Absolutely lovely!
First class fluff!
Loved Arthur and Kreacher both knowing what was going on.

I try to tell myself that I don't write fluff! *sigh*
Kreacher knows everything that goes on in Grimmauld Place. Arthur knows everything :-D

Crying is good, isn’t it? Getting an emotional response from my readers is always good. It’s certainly better than being called names!

Owl Post by Northumbrian
