A Different Reality by Gmariam

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Harry has just witnessed the death of Professor Dumbledore, and chases after the murderous Snape before he can escape the grounds. But the former potions master easily captures Harry, and takes him back to Spinner’s End along with Draco Malfoy. What happens to Harry at Spinner’s End? Will Snape cement his allegiance to the Dark Lord and turn Harry over to Voldemort? What happens to Draco Malfoy? Will Voldemort punish him for his failure on the Tower? And what about Severus Snape - will Harry learn the truth about the former Death Eater at last?

This story is now complete, and presents an alternate ending to Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince, in which Harry learns more than he could have ever imagined about Professor Snape and Professor Dumbledore. He must abandon many of his old convictions and come to an understanding of a new and different reality before setting out on his final journey to vanquish Lord Voldemort in Book Seven.

I'm uncertain whose reaction to being in the Astronomy Tower struck me most, but the two friends desperately trying to cling to one another for comfort brought tears to my eyes. Adding Fawkes here was a poignant touch. I have no more words except to say, "Thank you for a hauntingly beautiful chapter".

Author's Response: You are most welcome! :) This is one of my favorites, particularly the last paragraph. Poor Harry! I\'m glad you are still enjoying it, thank you for leaving me these little notes. You have totally made my day and my weekend!! ~Gina :)

I enjoyed this chapter immensely. Whenever Harry and his friends brainstorm we get to see just how close they are, how their minds work and how much they trust one another. Very well-written and plausible. P.S. I liked the news article.

Author's Response: I\'m glad you liked the news article, it was fun to write! Harry had his moment with Hermione in Chapter Six and I wanted him to have a moment with Ron in Chapter Seven. The news article actually came out of the blue and made me work a little harder to fit it in. You are making me blush with all these reviews! I really appreciate it - thank you for your kind words, and for reading this story. I am so glad you are enjoying it, thanks again!! ~Gina :)

Many apologies for not leaving this next review right away; I have two kidlets who require my attention.. Anyway, on to the review, which may be jumbled, so I apologize for that too: ...
--A longer chapter, I see; very good. ...
--Harry's inner voice is trying to tell him something. Could it be that Harry may be on the egdes of breaking through the Memory Charm placed upon him? Hmm. ...
--Ginny's 'borrowing' suggestion and the subsequent "Accio Penseive"= LOL. ...
--The Room of Requirement becoming Dumbledore's Office was rather clever; I liked that idea immensely. ...
--I think Ginny simply heard "I need you," making her staying behind all the more worthwhile, yes? ...
--To 'see' Dumbledore again was fantastic, and the banter between Albus and Aberforth: CLASSIC. ...
--Trelawney's obliviousness after the prophecy was comical and the terrific cliffhanger at the end of this chapter has me clamoring for more! Pressing on, I am!

Author's Response: Oh my goodness, no apologies necessary! This is a lot of reading in one day (and a lot of reviewing as well!) Thank you, once more, for the wonderful review. As for the Memory Charm . . . well, I can\'t really say much, can I? It might come back. ;) As I said before, I gave Harry a Hermione moment and a Ron moment, and this was his Ginny moment - I am very glad you liked it. I loved writing the scene at the Hog\'s Head, so I\'m thrilled with your comments! I hope Aberforth makes an appearance in Book Seven(and I sort of hope I\'m close to the mark as well) I also loved leaving it as a cliffhanger - you are lucky that the next part is up! Thank you again for the review!! ~Gina :)

Twist, turns and more questions, OH MY!

When I reached the end of this chapter, I was suddenly smacked with a realization: this WASN'T JKRs book I was reading! Apparently I'd been thinking it WAS! Jiminy Crickets!

Your writing mirrors hers--a SUPERB and FANTASTIC feat! I can't wait to read the ENTIRE STORY all the way through once it is complete. I've added you to and your story to my favorites.

Author's Response: *SQUEE!* What a compliment, now I am definitely blushing. :) I did want this to read like it was written by JKR , and I am thrilled to have pulled it off. Thank you so much! I hope you continue to enjoy the story! ~Gina :)

Dumbledore: Only human, after all. We cannot blame him for not seeing everything.

Hermione: Intelligent, level-headed, and quite believeable; wonderfully written here.

Harry: It's troubling being the Chosen One, especially when you have doubts about the one you trusted most; convincingly written.

Another excellent chapter! :)

Author's Response: Oh, thank you for the comments! I\'m glad I managed to do well by Hermione, I worked hard on her dialogue. This chapter seems dark to me, the idea that Dumbledore made this fateful decision, and I\'m glad you enjoyed it. Thank you so much for the great review!! ~Gina :)

An interesting, and quite believable, reason for Snape's turn against Voldemort. That part was stunningly well-written. Voldemort again proves why many fear and loathe him...

Snape, having always been dark and angry, but now bitter and hateful, seems to have a very good reason now for hating James Potter. Snape appears unable to have the very thing James had: LOVE. Ah, but I am chattering like a squirrel (and making as much sense too)!

I stand by my previous review; this story (and I do hope the next chapter[s] will be up soon) is nearly as good as JKRs! Congratulations for a (thus far) riveting and finely-spun alternate-ending to a great story! Have a fabulous weekend, Gina!

Author's Response: I say again - thank you so much for the flurry of reviews today. I can\'t tell you how exciting it was to keep finding new reviews as I checked my email today. It absolutely made my day, I\'m thrilled. I\'m flattered by your comments and just so happy that you enjoyed the story. I really appreciate that you took the time to leave a note for each chapter. So as for this chapter, it was just accepted yesterday and I\'ll be interested to see what others think. I felt like I was taking a risk giving Snape a background such as they one I presented here. I\'m happy that you found it both interesting and believable. Yes, it is yet another reason for Snape to hate James Potter, and more importantly, Harry. I feel bad for Snape. I really do think there is a defining moment/reason for his turn. Well, that\'s assuming he is on the good side, which I also think - or maybe just hope. The next chapter is coming along, it\'s a bit more reflective, before plunging into the Pensieve for the final memory. I\'m honored that you have marked it as a favorite and hope you enjoy the rest of the story. Thank you again for reading it today and leaving so many wonderful reviews. I will indeed have a fabulous weekend. Thank you!! ~Gina :)

Hermione's Speech by Sly Severus

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: The war has ended and the remainder of Hermione's class is graduating. However, this year the school has decided to have an official graduation, and Hermione has been asked to give a speech. She has also been asked not to dwell on the war in this speech. But how can she tell her fellow graduates to look to the future without understanding the past?

Having seen this under "Most recent stories", I decided to give it a shot. I was not too disappointed (allow me to say that I was only disappointed that this one-shot wasn't a bit longer); Hermione's decision to stand up and speak for those who couldn't speak from themselves (and honor their memory) was touching. My favorite line: "We were raised to continue fighting this never-ending war." How true this is--even in real life; racial diversity is one glaring example. When the younger generation finally steps forward to say "Enough!", will there be any peace--which is what Hermione seems to be doing...correct? In any case, KUDOS for a well-written one-shot!

Author's Response: :D Glad you liked it and thank you for the compliments.

\"When the younger generation finally steps forward to say \"Enough!\", will there be any peace--which is what Hermione seems to be doing...correct?\"

I actually considered making this longer. I was going to include a scene with Hermione talking with either Draco or Narcissa but I felt that it would only clutter the story because nothing would really be added by it.

Thanks again for the review. :D

A Thousand Words: Alternate Epilogue by annie

Summary: How it could have ended differently for Hermione and Draco...

Not a bad ending! Kudos to you. Thanks for this, because it gave me a few minutes more with my favorite pair. I liked the other ending much more, though, but... shouldn't it be about what YOU want for your story--not what I (or others) say? You are thoughtful and kind beyond measure for writing what the fans wanted... :)
