High by Equinox Chick

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: Scorpius Malfoy is the Seeker for Slytherin. Not only that, he's the best Seeker at Hogwarts, and it's his catches that win matches. But this year things are different; Albus Potter has switched to Chaser and the new Gryffindor Seeker is his annoying little sister.

This is the story of how one match and one missed catch can change your life.

This story was accidentally deleted, so is being resubmitted ... very very quickly.

SQUEEEEE! High won the Best Next Generation QSQ award. Thank you so much for the everyone who has helped, either by beta'ing or encouraging me.

Disclaimer: I am not JK Rowling. I'm not sure who I am at the moment, but there must be some Arthur Weasley blood in me.

Thank you Natalie (hestiajones) for doing the vast majority of the beta work on this, and Apurva for work on the early chapters

Squish for Natalie, Jess, Kara and Bob for helping me sort this out.

Due to an archive hissy fit regarding any story with a rating about 3rd-5th, I have temporarily lowered the rating on this story. However, I have NOT changed the content. This story is still a 6th-7th. You click at your own risk.

You really are a horrible tease!

Also, I don't know if it's me, but your story is littered with subconscious references to Scorpius/Hugo. Hmm.

That funeral was painful to read. Narcissa was suffocating, yet I'd have called you out on OOC-ness if you'd written her differently.

But YES ANDROMEDA! I am so thrilled she turned up.

Author's Response: It's just you.

This chapter filled me to the brim with girlish glee! :D

First of all, Fred was hilarious... and sexy. OOPS. Second - the cards from Teddy and Andromeda. YAYAY. He has a few sensible relatives at least lol. Third, does Rose wear twisted knickers on purpose? >.< But at least the tension between Scorpius and the cousins are lessening. I loved the moment with Albus.

Horrible ending, though. :O I hope he's al right.

I have come to an end. There's this ... funny feeling I can't shake off. Once I dreamt that I got 17 review notifications, and a friend of mine went ahead and left me 17 reviews to make it come true. This reviewing spree tonight reminded me of that. :)

Author's Response: oooh yeah, I remember the 17 reviews. You fancy Fred now?! Pull yourself together. He's 14 - he just happens to be tall like his mummy. Thank you ....

Inner Demons by lucca4

Rated: Professors • Past Featured Story
Summary:

The Battle of Hogwarts changed the lives of many.

For Katie Bell, nothing mattered anymore, least of all her Quidditch career.

For Draco Malfoy, it meant he had to face that surviving comes at a price.

They each had their own demons to face alone. But for each other, they were a form of release.

Winner of the 2012 QSQ - Best Dark/Angsty Story

Many, many thanks to my beta Sarah/TheCursedQuill, whose speedy beta-ing and wonderful comments helped transform this into a two-shot.

**Originally written for Jess/ToBeOrNotToBeAGryffindor for the SPEW Summer Swap under the title 'Release'.
Reviewer: hestiajones Signed

I’ll tell you what is wrong with the world: this story not having any reviews. What in the name of Merlin’s most baggy Y-fronts is going on? I personally haven’t checked the Most Recent for ages and I keep missing flist stories, and neither do I subscribe to fav authors (for embarrassing reasons I don’t want to mention here hahaha), so I missed this. >.< >.< I’d have never read this if Jess hadn’t mentioned it on the LS. This is so bloody unfair.

Anyway, I’m here to correct this stupidity. I shall start with a confession: I don’t read Draco/Katie. :O I know it’s a rather popular ship, but just like Dramione and Harmony, I was never quite sold on the idea. I’ve come to realise that the right kind of story can convince me, and this definitely changed my mind about the ship.

You wrote their pain so well here. Their connection exists for a reason: it’s the nightmare, the horror of having participated in something that has changed their life forever. And they aren’t in love, no, but they are trying their best to fill that emptiness somehow, and in their mutual hurt and loss and even guilt, they are somehow – somehow – managing to do it.

Draco’s confession surprised me at first. I was under the impression that Colin died in the grounds, as Oliver and Neville are carrying his body back inside the castle in the book. Reading back, I found you didn’t actually say he died in the castle, so it’s a moot point. However, I think you’ve used this very effectively. Draco is directly responsible for somebody’s death. It was the same with Dumbledore, except that they’d be under the impression that Snape took care of that. With Colin, it’s different. He does it without planning, he does it unknowingly. He doesn’t even want Colin to die. The sense of guilt, therefore, is much heavier. It’s no wonder he’s shaken to the core.

Katie’s grief, on the other hand. Gods. I can’t imagine the horror of losing anyone in a battle/any situation. Of course, it would deaden her. Of course, she’d seek to fulfill that loss somehow. Your writing bled with her sorrow, it really did. There is one line in particular that I can’t get rid of: She wished she could have lost her body instead of herself. That is so sad I don’t even know how to express it.

One thing I’d have liked to see was how these two actually met, but I see there’s one more chapter to go. I shall carry on reading! Brilliant writing, though, Ariana.

Author's Response: Yay! That was very sweet of Jess to put this on LS and of you to review it . Thank you for this gorgeously long and detailed and lovely review! I shall attempt to give it an adequate response.

I didn't write Katie/Draco before this, I really only decided on this ship because I've written too many Susan/Theos for Jess and I wanted to try something different. I'm glad you liked it! I must admit I am s*** at remembering canon facts so…the Colin thing might be an actual error o.O. Maybe I'll add something in about it being outdoors. I do feel bad for Draco at that part, actually, even though Colin is one of my favorite characters and Draco is such a coward it's not even funny. Like you said though, he didn't mean it, and it's only afterwards that he realizes the price of keeping himself safe.

I forget if I say how they met in the next chapter…uh oh… :) . Ha ha… I'll go read your next review and see! Thank you so, so much again Natalie! xx Ariana

You know what? Forget what I said in the previous review. I no longer care how they met when you write their present so, so … ‘Deliciously’ is the wrong choice of word, but I seriously can’t come up with the appropriate adjective. All I know is that this is one of the best things I have ever read. It leaves me cold and numb in a warm, very warm October afternoon.

It’s the way you put things:

The apology felt fleshy and raw in his mouth.
The need was a thousand times greater than any want.
His chest felt odd; he still had the pain but it was a buzzing sort of pain that drifted around and he couldn’t feel it in the same place twice.
The forgiveness bled through his skin and he felt free.

Utterly beautiful and heartbreaking. I can empathize with him, his situation, his helplessness so well.

The worst thing is, no matter how badly I want them to work out, I can see it not happening. No, this hasn’t much to do with canon. I can see that in spite of the way they complement each other here, this would never be wholesome enough to stand the test of time. :/ That leaves me feeling hollow.

This has certainly left me in a strange mood, but I assure you that is a compliment. I love fics which can affect me emotionally, and yours definitely did. Great work, and I really hope it gets the appreciation it so deserves.

~Natalie

Author's Response: Natalieeeeeeee! You are such the best. Your reviews more than make up for the little 0 I've been staring at for a month :). It makes me so, so glad to know that you actually enjoyed this story, and that the descriptions weren't confusing or overdone.

Like you, I don't see this lasting, either. I think it's more of a comfort thing; they helped each other survive the aftermath of the Battle and now they're scared to be with anyone else. And I can't believe I forgot to write their beginning…I think there is a brief mention of them meeting drunk at the Leaky in the first chapter but I cba to check ;). I am sorry it left you feeling cold and empty, but I am happy you liked it anyway! xx Ariana

Wow. Uhm. Ah. You know ... Actually... No... See, the thing is ... Oh it's ... I HAVE NOTHING ON MY MIND THAT COULD PROPERLY DESCRIBE THE FANTASTICNESS THIS IS! :O

So, so intense and sad and painful and frustrating and moving. Oh gods, you have no idea what I want to do with the culprit right now.

And! I have always found the relationship between Narcissa and Andromeda intriguing! Although in my version, they aren't this close, I think your story does give a plausible reason for them moving further apart. Andromeda is a black and will know how to hold a grudge, and Narcissa will slowly grow into the self-centered woman we know. What a loss! :/

This does justice to the fabulous banner. I must say that I was eyeing it and had planned to claim it from the start, but nothing I could have written would have been better than this. Amazing work, Ariana! Good luck!

~Natalie

Author's Response: I know, Rodolphous is quite the b@stard, isn't he? I got so angry while writing him. Before I wrote this I didn't see Narcissa and Andromeda as being very close, either, but the idea of them having such a tight bond and then having it be broken was just more dramatically tragic ;). Thank you so much for your review, Natalie. xx Ariana

Finally here to review!

I don't know why you were feeling stuck, because this was a really satisfying ending for me. I wanted them to be together, but I really couldn't think how they could have done it, especially considering how different Justin's world is from Theo. With the messing up of the Muggleborns' names, you gave a really nice explanation!

I think that's what I liked most about this story, how you managed to bring them together in such a short story, in spite of the continuous shifts in their relationships. Of course, both their pasts' and screwed future added to the gloom and tragedy, and I kept fearing for them even though I knew they'd return to each other's arms some day.

This was a great story, Croll, and it goes very nicely with the banner. I will even forgive Jasperguy's deflated balloon lips, for Theo has come a long way indeed, and found some happiness and acceptance at last!

~Natalie

Author's Response: I was stuck because it didn't end like that. I needed to tie everything up then the line about Justin fitting the pieces back together hit me, followed by the Thestrals. Originally the ending was even more lame - LOL. I giggled at Justine Filch-Bletchley. A witch related to Filch and Miles Bletchley - wow she must be ugly!

Thank you so much for this review and the last one. I'm still a bit iffy about this, but it still fits with my canon. Glad you enjoyed it. ~Carole~

The fic with the scene of DOOOOM! :O I hadn't checked your story notes so I thought this was a one-shot, and I was like WAIT NO WHAT IT CAN'T END LIKE THIS!

I love your Theo and Justin and want them to kiss already. :3 You must be relieved I can't find any way to fit Scugo into this fic. Hehe.

Okay, real review. The beginning was intriguing! And I must say I was continually surprised - Justin and Theo's history, how horrible! I felt bad for both of them. You portrayed them really well here, and they have very distinct personalities.

Malfoy. >.< Annoying, really, but very, very well-written! I could picture his smug little pale face every time he appeared.

Really excited about this! I want to see how you're going to develop this further. And thanks for the Dean/Daphne teaser. ;)

~Natalie

Author's Response: It's just a teaser. Theo finds a time turner and skips forward to find Hugo - strange but true Thugo reigns! Thank you for the review, hestiajones person. I'm still a bit meh about this. It wasn;t quite what I wanted to do, but better than the 1,5k I deleted. Ta lots ~Carole~

The Revenge of Mark Evans by goldensnidget92

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Mark Evans, one of Dudley's many victims, is a wizard. A wizard who wants revenge for the months of suffering Dudley Dursley put him through one summer before he attended Hogwarts.

This is part of the Court Case that dealt with the apparent acts of Muggle-baiting that he committed, with statements from Mark Evans and Dudley Dursley; and from the witnesses, Petunia Dursley and Harry Potter.

Warning: includes general silliness, sickly language from Petunia Dursley, and one allusion to strong language.

Hahaha! This was a like a breath of fresh air. I needed the laughter after a hard day's work.

I do have some crit. There is this line where you say:

“If there’s anything you need, we’re right here,” called Tamora Andronica, the only girl who’d ever chosen Neville Longbottom as her ‘Hogwarts Hero’ date.

As the scene is told from Ron's POV, I was wondering how he could know.

That's it, really. The part with Ginny really made me giggle. Thanks for writing! I am going to go and read your other fics. :)

Author's Response: Thanks! The bit you highlighted, I realise I didn't make quite clear, but I thought it would be something else Harry had told Ron, but didn't want to repeat myself too often. But thanks for the review!! :)

It’s possible that this pairing may squick you out. I appreciate people have different thoughts on this but advise you to keep an open mind until the end of the story.

Oh Carole, Carole, Carole! What can I say? This was just an amazing ending.

Okay, I’ll start with a confession. I think I am rather in love with your Dominique (which makes me feel bad because it’s like I am cheating on mine), but yours is a more intriguing character. She is dark, she is sarcastic and she is very, very sexy. I think Dominique should be made officially gay by Rowling because men just don’t deserve that much hotness.

Poor James :/ But I felt sadder for Dominique, the way she is caught in a half-way house. Although, I must say that this story gave me an interesting insight into your James. In High, we don’t know much of him, and this peek into his life is quite touching and bittersweet. It certainly gave him an interesting dimension. I’ll be thinking of it when I read the final chapter of your glorious (but not very convincing) Scorpius/Lily fic.

You really baffled me in this story, and I mean it as a compliment. I kept wondering why this Myles, who sounded a tad like an oversexed Cormac McLaggen, was writing such amazing poetry LOL. The plot twist in the end with “M”(heeheeheehee) yanked off my pants (metaphorically speaking, of course!) I cried tears of joy because Dominique liked girls! :D :D And also that Myles person was not the poet because that would have made me traumatic.

Your writing really shone in this fic. You write emotions really, really well. Dominique’s chapter was so heart-wrenching. The letter about carousels was beautiful and poignant, the scene in the bathroom was beyond amazing, and the dance with James was so desperately sexy. While the first chapter was bittersweet, the second overwhelmed me with its tragic sense of loss and wanton desire for wholeness.

I feel like no praise is going to be enough without dropping the f-word a fair few times, so I shall poke you later on :D But thank you so, so much for this! Seriously, I love it to bits!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for this lovely review. If I tell you how much I agonised over this story (when I remembered you're not keen on 'cousins') I was close to deleting it all, but this was the canon I kind of had for James - being in love with someone he couldn;t have - and Dominique fitted the story largely down to you making her so bloody hot- ha ha. Of course THIS was the reason I couldn't read Bleed because I was terrified I'd have to delete all of this once I'd read your Dominique. M can be Maudie if you desire it so, however I wasn;t sure (from what I remembered) whether she was at all like Maudie, and this prob doesn;t fit your timeline - or Dominques career as a restauranteer - (ha ha - I had that in another story years ago)

yours is a more intriguing character.

That's because I am evil ... No, it's because you know your Dom inside out, and I know my Nix - hee hee.

Deeply touched by the review. I shall sniffle a bit more and then worship at Kara's feet for encouraging me to finish. THANKIEEEEES ~Carole~

Oooohh! Intriguing beginning. I want them to shag already. O.o This is one of the weirdest pairings I have ever read, but you're pulling it off so far. And I can see why it was racking in the word count: the story does need a lot of development in order to be canonically believable. Cannot wait to see where it leads.

Only complaint. You had to be pick Terry to be a prick, didn't you?

Author's Response: Shag? the lovely Hannah? Now why would she do that? Yes, canonically this took some twisting. I hope this works; it seemed to at the time, but then again I would say that - ha ha.

Yeah, sorry about Terry, but ... um ... I needed a Claw. Anthony and Michael didn't quite fit for me. Um, you might not want to read the rest ... *hides*

Thanks for the review, my love. ~Croll~

SQUEEEE!

I LOVE THIS. Of course, I love Draco redemption fics in general, but there was something so pleasant, so calming, so understated about it. It inspires so many promises of hope.

What I enjoyed most about this story was Luna. You wrote her so, so well. But your depiction of Draco-snark was perfection too. This exchange had me giggling:

"You're Draco Malfoy," she replies instead. The non-sequitur throws him and he responds defensively.

"And you're bloody brilliant," he snaps back. "Do I know you?"

I honestly felt for Draco's plight in this story. He's one of those characters that a fanfic writer can easily make or break, and here, you did a great job at invoking pity in us. This part made me tear up actually:

"He's a naturalist," she replies. Her eyes light up with happiness, and in an instant he knows he has lost her.

My only nitpick is that the mention of Luna's captivity at Malfoy Manor came somewhat late. I'd expect twitchy Draco to think of it earlier. You could still add it in a line or two in the first section itself. Just a suggestion.

OH! I forgot to mention I enjoyed your version of Astoria as well. :D I think JK mentioned somewhere that she was a Slytherin, but meh. I also wrote her as a Ravenclaw in my early versions.

Really loved this, Gina. I used to secretly ship Draco/Luna on and off, so it made me happy!

Natalie

Author's Response: Natalieeeee! Thank you so much for the review! I'm so glad you liked it, I've been playing with this idea for a while. Originally it would have taken place over several years, but I think I like this better. I'm glad I kept a bit of Draco's snark, although by this point he is a bit depressed and disillusioned. You know, I woke up and checked for reviews and first thing I did was go look for Astoria--which I had done already, but I just wanted to be sure. I didn't find any reference to her house, and I put her in Ravenclaw to go with my Christmas story about Scorpius and Roxanne (Scorpius was in Ravenclaw.) So I think I'll stick with that either way. And I have to admit I wrote more than half of this before remembering the bit about Luna being captive. I knew I had to address it and I thought it turned out okay, but I could see your point about it being earlier. Although, their first encounter is so brief, he might not even think of it until he keeps meeting her and the guilt begins to grow. Haha, that's an 'after the fact' answer if there ever was one! Thanks again for the lovely review! On to my next pairing...~Gina :)

Swans by Equinox Chick

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: I’m twenty-seven years old, so why can’t I just say no, or plead a headache and stay in my room?

Molly (jnr) was a Weasley with a difference. Not sparkling, not brave, not reckless. She was diligent and loyal, and usually overlooked.

For who notices ducklings when swans are gliding by?

I am not JK Rowling. You all know that. I am Equinox Chick and this is one of my entries for the Great Hall Inaugural Cotillion.

IT WONNNNN!!!!!!!!!!! (joint first with A Splendid Fate by hestiajones - you should all go and read that - it's very fab)Thank you judges for being amazing

Many thanks to Natalie (hestiajones) and Kara (Karaley Dargen) for their help with beta'ing this story.

The line about 'porridge' is a tip someone told me photographers use.

Due to the infuriating prissy glitch infecting the archives, I have downgraded this story's rating to 3rd-5th. However, this is actually a PROFESSORS story, so please do not click if sexual situations are likely to offend.

Back off, girls. That GQMF is MINE. I claimed it when I was betaing.

And oh! Of course this story kicks serious ass and Hebe/Barnabas deserve to die in a fire.

Author's Response: But he was in the pub last night. You need to get to London, pronto!

I might set fire to them. I could resurrect Crabbe to cast Fiendfyre.

This is making me giggle so much - LOLOLOLOLOL Thank youuuuu ♥ ~Croll~

:'(

This is so bloody fabulous, Julia. First of all, I love the visuals it gives me: tears of glass cutting skin and tearing life, extinguished with one tongue-flick. Gahh. The entire poem is like word porn. I cannot get enough of it.

As for the emotions it evoked in me. Once more, it managed to remind me of Harry's sacrifice, his need to sacrifice, and the great fear, loneliness and vulnerability he felt after he realised he had meant to die after all. The last two lines, however, makes me think of the strange parallel between him and Voldemort, and how different they were from each other at the same time.

I hope it receives as much love as it did the first time, if not more. It deserves nothing less!

Author's Response: Oh you have me giggling right now :3 Word porn. Thank you so much for the lovely review, Lafonna.
