That’s pretty much it. Hope you enjoy the stay!
OMG. Where do I start? I absolutely loved this. OMG.
Okay, when I saw your claim, I was excited! This sounded crazy impossible, and I definitely wanted to know how you were going to approach it. And you did it so well. It's glorious, it's saddening, it's beautiful and poetic. The last lines had me gasping. Gahhhhhh. I am incoherent right now.
Seriously, my friend, this was a one-of-a-kind magical feat. Going straight into my favourites!
Author's Response: Oh, I'm so glad you liked it. <3 This was a really difficult pairing to write, but I was intrigued by the challenge and I had fun finding a way to pull it off (though also lots of angst, I'll admit). I'm really happy it came out well, this was about the fourth version I tried.
:/ One of my favourite poems from you. It reminds me of The Nundu, which you know I love. It is so chilling, and yet so sad and hapless. I admire how well you pull of structured poetry. Well done!
Author's Response: Aw, thanks Nat. I do tend to write villanelles about impending death a lot, don't I? (Probably why I'm not as big a fan of this poem - done that before!) I'm glad you liked it though <3
I kept thinking this was Sirius, because Alf reminded me of Alphard. Lol. But I know it isn't :) Poor Sirius didn't have such a grandmother, who sounds more the Molly Weasley type than the Black kind.
Lovely poem again. I love the images that you present here. This entire stanza was such a joy to read:
Salt on the window, nails in the lintel,
Red rowan’s twigs our fire to kindle,
Clothing reversed to show off its stitches,
Milk at the door to placate the house-elf,
Collections of bells along the high shelf,
All to ward off nasty fairies and witches.
The last stanza is, of course, the best! I am running out of words to praise lol. Really loved it.
D: That broke my heart a little bit D: But also, it made me happy because goddamn Daphne is taking charge of her own life and didn't need a man to show her how to live it in the first place. :D I love your Charlie, btw, and his fluid sexuality. *drools* Lovely work!
Author's Response: Thank you so much, Natalie! I really appreciate the review and your comments. I suppose you could look at Daphne that way but I still sort of feel bad for Charlie for being played like that. But who knows, maybe Daphne hated doing it but had to. And yes, Charlie is fluid in my book. I have plans for him that do not include Daphne Greengrass whatsoever. I might have even come up with a title this past week. hee hee. Thanks again! ~Gina :)
Shouldn't have read that with a full bladder.D: Also, how dare you try and taint the purity that is Snapeheart? D:
This was comedy gold, CON. You write Gilderoy so well lmao.
Author's Response: Ahhh. SW, how lovely to see you here.
This is pre-Snapeheart and poor old Dick was under the influence of that ghastly lipstick.
Glad you enjoyed it, but ewww to the full bladder.
Thank youuuuuuuuuuu
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I'll never stop loving you
Evan Rosier and Dorcas Meadowes swore that they would not let the war come between them.
But things change as they realise that love cannot always come first.
Written for the GH Cotillion Challenge.
A million thanks to my beta Alex/welshdevondragon who is lovely and brilliant.
Nominated for a 2012 Quicksilver Quill Award - Best Marauder Era Story.
Uhm.
I am a bit stunned by the kind of evil implications the song's title come to assume at the end D: Not sure that was deliberate, but Merlin, so ironic and tragic and mind-bending.
Okay, that said, OMFG. I knew this was going to be glorious! :D The smut didn't even have to be explicit when it was this HOT. And what a twist, what a twist. Still reeling from the tragedy of his betrayal, and how love is not enough :/ I'm also pleasantly surprised you put Dorcas in Slytherin. I assume that's how Evan got into her dorm? Or am I missing something? D:
This is not a nitpick, but I did expect to see Dorcas doing something badass, as Moody said she was a powerful witch. Uhm. This does sound like a nitpick :O It doesn't take away the beauty of the story, of course, and it's a romance fic of the D/A kind. Just wanted to point it out.
Fab work! I'm so happy you decided to sacrifice precious time and write this
Author's Response: Yay! Thanks for the review :). I'm glad you thought it was glorious, lol. I'm actually not sure what to do about Dorcas and the Dorm Dilemma, which is what I'm calling that section of the story until I can think of a solution. And while I'm at it, maybe I"ll add a little Dorcas-Badassness at the end :). Thank you so, so much again for taking the time to review. I have another story planned for the challenge that may or may not double as a birthday present for this really wonderful girl who's my mistress you know…xx Ariana
O: O: O: O:

So that's what happened. UGH. Damn you, Drew. Damn, I also hate the name Drew as a rule. >.< I love that we are looking at things from Demelza's POV at last. Lets me know her a bit more, and how and why she is attracted to Tracey.
Oh Merlin, this pairing has to work out! Or I will not want you any longer. CANNOT WAIT FOR NEXT CHAPTER!
Author's Response: He is evil! And yeah, Drew is a horrible name. A certain friend of ours kept calling him Droopy Drew - ha ha ha.
Thank you for the review. I shall be getting the next chapter up - net willing - very soon. I hope you like the end. ~CON~

NEXT CHAPTER PLEASE!
Author's Response: How zechadianly obscure you are.
I shall have to consult my schedule to see when ch 3 can appear ...
When I first received the drabble for the beta-work, I was stunned. Even though I've had no personal experience with anyone suffering from mental deterioration/loss of memory, I can still remember how hard it was for me to write my own version. But when I saw this, I was so gobsmacked. This was so much more profound in a way I can't explain.
Perhaps, it's the beauty of the phrasing. Perhaps, it's the bittersweet images you've presented us. Perhaps, it's how well you have managed to weave Neville into it as well. Perhaps, it's the absent/present tenderness between Alice and Frank. Perhaps, it is this:
For a moment, I wonder if I should speak, but it’s been so long, and I can’t think of any words.
I don't even know how to describe how that makes me feel. The despair and helplessness and incomprehension packed into that sentence are too much to bear. It's so unfair.
One of the most beautiful fics I've ever read. Going into my favourites.
Author's Response: Coming from you, the writer who has so much beauty with words, this means an incredible amount.
Thank you, also, for picking out one of the new lines and commenting on it. It was dragged from me by personal experience (of which I know you're aware). I just find Alice and Frank's situation so very unfair.
Sorry, can't think of an adequate response 'Thnx' doesn;t quite cut it :) ~CON~
WOW. That was something. Glorious. Such beautifully crafted language, such raw and palpable emotions. It's a crime it didn't have any reviews before mine. >.< Definitely one of my favourite entries in the challenge. Well done, and I look forward to reading more from you!
~Natalie
Author's Response: Hi, Natalie,
Thank you! I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I don't usually write OC's in my ff, so it was a real pleasure to voice this character and be able to move on the page with limited constraint. Also, I'm honoured that this would be one of your favourites in this challenge when there are so many good ones out there.
Thank you so much for reading and for the review!
~Susan

:D :D :D
I really liked this a lot. The thing is, you managed to capture the hesitance, the curiosity, the courage and then the fulfillment in a very short story. The use of the pomegranate leitmotif was also nicely done - I love it was how representative of Hannah, and reminiscent of the myth, as well as a sort of forbidden fruit.
Well done, Lily! :) You should write more.
Author's Response:
(you have no idea how pleased that an author who has as much skill as you likes my work...I still feel like the noob even though I've been a member for a year but that's another story...
Thank youuu for thinking I captured all those emotions~I really struggled over that and I'm glad it worked out well, lol. I liked writing Hannah...we don't really know much about her, other than the fact that she's a Hufflepuff and married Neville, so I figured I could go places with her /andthisiswhyrarepairsarefun...
And by writing more do you mean I should write more fanfiction or continue this story? LOL...I don't know if I'll write a sequel, but it's certainly a possibility, hehe.
Thank youuu again for reviewing *squishes* I have to keep up to you in the Cotillion, don't I? (I'm only about six entries behind you...
Lily xxx
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH. I've never bought this ship before but COLOUR ME INTRIGUED.
Okay, first things first, the story has grabbed me by the proverbial balls. It works as a mystery, too, and I am curious to know who's behind it. I am loving the building chemistry between Katie and Harry and I simply cannot wait to see them - er- solving the case.
Great one, CON. Bring on the next chapter! And, oh, my favourite part:
Katie didn’t mind, and wasn’t the least bit jealous, but it had been embarrassing when she’d taken the Floo and practically stepped on Roger’s bum as he screwed Alicia on the hearthrug.
Author's Response: I was wondering where to put this because it could be a mystery (which would have delighted Kara), or it could be PH (and possible AU *snigger*) In the end I went for Harry/OC because ... um ... Idk.
I hope you like the rest of the story, which I'm still tinkering with before I get dust thrown in my eyes. I know you're not a fan of this pairing and I'm trying my darndest to spice Harry up - heh heh heh - but it's hard without making him very OOC.
Thank youuuuuuuuu and I hope you stick with it. ~Carole~
Oh god. Harry is such a dull dimwit, not getting excited by the sound of Roger and Alicia. Or is he too excited?
-giggles-
Okay, more curious than ever as to who is behind this, and you haven't given us a clue yet, really. Well, apart from the fact that this person is a good potioneer. Hmmmmm. Hope it's not Draco, though. :/
And ooooh! The chemistry is really shaping up well. Harry needs to liven up a little, and then we are set!
UPDATE.
Author's Response: Draco eh? hmmmm... that would be a tad predictable, I fear, but it is a short story - ha ha.
I'm not sure I'd get excited at hearing Roger; I think harry's just rather embarrassed, poor lamb. he;s only had Gin Gin after all.
There's one more chapter. I HOPE it's not too rushed, but tsk tsk word count again made me up the pace. *sigh*
Thankies, SW ~CON~
Ahhhh! The joy of reading smut! SCORE!
-cough-
Montague, eh? That one half of the Moste Eville Pairing "Malague"? Who would have thought the git could turn out to be such a plotter? Perhaps, he Vanished into some logic and brain?
Okay, I am sold. Ha ha! I think Harry/Katie is definitely now a pairing I won't shrink from in the future. This was a great story, CON, with a riveting plot and a not-so-dull-in-the-pants Harry. Thank you for that and that! I quite adore Katie, but I think I ended up liking Alicia more. (She's smexy here.)
My only nitpick is, I feel like it should have been mentioned in this chapter why Warrington was doing it at all. Just a line?
Apart from that, enjoyed reading it thoroughly! Your entries are rocking the archives ... hard.
~Natalie
Author's Response: and so much more evil than Warrington :P who wasn't involved at all so why would I mention his motive. tsk tsk. Methinks thou art obsessed with eville Slyths. (Point taken, there was a line somewhere, but I must have deleted it when I was culling. D'OH!)
Yes, I like Alicia as well. And even Roger is growing on me (like mould). SCORE!!!!!
Thank you for reading and reviewing. Was the smut acceptable? My entries aren't causing as much of a rock as yours, O SW of my heart. *giggling madly I must go and find Warrington*
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ~CON~
Ah, the fic that gave me heartache. -sigh- So beautiful, and it fills me up with warmth and love and other feelings I shouldn't really go into on a family site. -sighs again- Both Bill and Fleur sound so sexy in here, and you have written their characters so amazingly as well. Struck by a lightning bolt indeed! I quite like to think it was Fleur who fell first, and not Bill ;) Thank you ever so much for writing this beauty and dedicating it to me. It's lovely and breezy and just so damn romantic and gaaaahhh makes me fall in love all over again.
Author's Response: I think Fleur fell first, too. Bill would have been unnerved, but she made the running to get the job at Gringotts, so ... yeah ... ha ha ... Silly man never stood a chance.
Thank you for the review, my best SW. Sorry this gave you heartache :(
I had to dedicate it to you because you held me down with a wand to my throat until I promised to write it - snigger. Seriously, if you hadn't nudged me then I wouldn't have written it and I'd been meaning to write a Blur for a while. Thank you so much for reviewing. ~Carole~
This was beautiful! :o I love that both of your recent fics used a non-linear narrative, and did it so well. The romance between them was so delicate - delicate, not in the sense that their feelings were weak, but because neither of them was rushing it, and there was so much fear in their hearts.
And gahh! The writing was very lovely and mellow; it made me think of warm spring afternoons. I could picture them lying there, happy in each other's solid presence, and hopeful.
Very lovely fic, Alex! I am adding it to my favourites.
Author's Response: Hello Natalie! The proof that I can, occasionally, be romantic :) I know what you mean by delicate--I think most of my stories tend to be quite dense, and this was enjoyable to write because it wasn't dense. I'm so pleased you found it vivid and enjoyed the writing--thank you so much for reviewing (and adding to your favourites-I'm honoured!) Alex
I loathed this story.
Author's Response: TROLL (Kara told me to say that)
I am Padfoot.
Between the amazing writing which is so filled with tension and the characterisation of Sirius as the unable-to-be-intimate and yet loving person whom we know him to be and the loveliness that is Benjy and the so, so sad unrequited love that is this story and the tragedy of regret and loss and the fact that you have pulled off such a wide range of story types and categories and whatnot, OBVIOUSLY I loathe it.
Ugh. I am going to add this to my "Un-Favourites". Yes, I am special and I have that feature in my user stat.
~HJ
Author's Response: You are that special because you are Special HJ/Nat/PP the triumvirate of ebil smexiness.
Being Padfootical now, I hope what came through was that Sirius' main connection was to James, and to a lesser extent Remus and Peter - although Lily is becoming more important to him. As you know from my ls, I was intending a different ending to this story, but it didn't feel right and so I left it with the kiss and the whole unrequitedness of love :(
Thank you very much for the review (which is always appreciated) and your on-the-hoof beta'ing skills which have rescued this from disqualification (ooops). And thank you for ... lots and lots and lots and ... lots. ♥♥♥ ~CON~
The plot thickens!
What I find most impressive is the amount of detail you've put into this line of profession. The goblins' unflinching scrutiny, the curses, the distribution of fees. They could easily be canon.
I need to know what's up with poor Marcus.
Author's Response: Eeek thank you. All of that wasn't even in my original plan but felt reasonable as I was writing. It's a totally fascinating profession, isn't it? I want to do iiiiit!
When I read your draft, this was my favourite section.
It still is.
I am so envious of how you've written Bill's work. I've always wanted to it myself, but I just never had enough imagination (or the will to research). It was so exciting to read all this.
Onwards!
Author's Response: Well you have written about Bill's work, though, haven't you.... albeit in a slightly different manner. Thank you thank you thank youuuuuu for all the reviewing!
