Not A Date by Gmariam

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: James Potter is alone on his birthday, waiting for his friends to get out of detention. He runs into Lily Evans on the Astronomy Tower and talks her into celebrating with him…even if it's not really a date.
Several months later, they meet again, but things turn out a bit differently this time...

Forever OTP!

I really don't know how you pull this off every single time. What amazes me the most is how you get their characters so right, and how we can see their dynamics changing without looking at their faces or knowing what they are doing. It's when Lily calls James James and James calls Lily Lily, and at what moments they do it that we know their real feelings are coming out. And just... GAH! Sorry, I am trying to leave a coherent review because you so deserve here, but I think I am slipping fast into fangirl mode. Such a brilliant way to capture the quintessential J/L! Makes me fall in love with them over and over again.

Thanks for doing this, Gina! :)

~Natalie

Author's Response: Hi Natalie! You are welcome! It's all your fault, of course! I not only took a drabble and expanded it, but added another expanded drabble to it and all of a sudden had a story! A J/L story! Yay! They are forever my OTP. I don't even know why anymore, I just love love love writing them. Thank you so much for your compliments, they make me smile every time I read them. I love being able to get them so right in other people's eyes. The dialogue only thing is fun with them because I can just imagine the way they might talk. I could be totally wrong, but it is such fun. Thank you so much for suggesting this and reading it and leaving such lovely reviews! *hugs* ~Gina :)

We Could Be Heroes (just for one day) by Equinox Chick

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: 'It takes a lot of courage to stand up to your enemies, but even more to stand up to your friends.'

One evening in his fifth year, James Potter learns that defying his best friend is the right things to do.

This story has been written in honour of James Potter's birthday.

Disclaimer: I am not JK Rowling, despite the spag bol. I'm also not Gina (gmariam) or Natalie (hestiajones) but both have spurred me on tonight.

Title is nicked from a Bowie song. I'm not him either.

-sigh-

Carole, please continue writing these four gits and one twat. I always want more, even if this is not the typical happy ME story. You just write them so bloody well.

I don't have any crit to offer, and it'd be wrong to say I enjoyed reading this. It's a great fic, though, because it is a perfect rendition of that notorious incident.

I love your title. Says so much about James.

Also, this may have given me a plot bunny...

~Natalie

Author's Response: Yay, for the plot bunny. I might have to write something aftermath-ish, actually, just not sure what as Lions starts a few months after this.

Thank you for the review, it is much appreciated. I'm wondering who the 'twat' is? Merkin forfend you don't mean Dumbles!?

I wrote most of this about three years ago, so it's pretty ropey in places, but I liked the overall feel of it. And Prongsie needed his hero moment.

Thank youuuuuuuuu (and get on with that plot bunny) ~Carole~

Hello expecto!

Ah, well-tried first attempt, if a little too short! Honestly, this could have been expanded. I understand you don't mean to continue writing, but I think you should. :)

~Call me "Natalie"

Author's Response: Hello, "Natalie"!

;D

Well, I wasn't trying to write anything earth-shattering. It was hard enough trying to stretch it to 1000 words so I could submit it! I don't think writing is my thing, but hmmm! If you say so, I'll maybe give it a shot. Hehe. Thanks for reviewing.

Discovering Delirium by The owl

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: At the start of her seventh year, Lily Evans doesn’t know quite what to expect of her new duties as Head Girl. Her only certainty is that Potter will manage to mess them up somehow. However, even she couldn’t have foreseen exactly how much he could mess things up.

James isn’t too worried about being Head Boy. He is more concerned by whether Evans would finally get over herself and see that he really had grown up a bit. However, their shared responsibilities were going to change things more that he knew.

Hello!

I thought this was very bubbly and fun! I am sucker for J/L in general (my OTP), and I'm honour bound to click on one when I come across one, and I wasn't disappointed. :) The essence of the ship was nicely caught in very few words. I loved the prank - oh Sirius - and the ending was definitely well-done, especially the usage of the title.

One nitpick is that there were a few missing punctuation (commas and full-stops). They didn't take anything away from the story itself, but minor things like this are hard to ignore.

I hope you write more fanfic in the near future!

~Natalie

Author's Response: Thank you for the review Natalie. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sorry about the missing punctuation though. *runs off to fix it looking embarrassed* I have a few more L/J plot bunnies bouncing around in my head (they're my OTP too) so hopefully you’ll be seeing more from me soon. No promises though - I have a feeling RL could get in the way. Oh yeah, and "very few words" tends to be my thing. I never finish the longer works :P -Sophie-

Ready For Tomorrow by Gmariam

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Hugo Weasley is about to play his sister for the Quidditch Cup. The night before the match, he goes for a ride out on the Quidditch pitch to clear his head. Instead, he ends up in the Forbidden Forest with one of the last people he would have expected: Scorpius Malfoy, fellow Slytherin and his Quidditch Captain.

I love you, Gina. For writing the Good Ship and spreading its sails, for that killer of a last line!

Okay, apart from that obvious bit of fangirling, I want to say that this was not what I'd expected when you first said you were writing a Scugo. I thought there would be Gryff/Slyth conflict in the form of witty retorts! I was WRONG.

This was so refreshing. There is something about spontaneous revelation of feelings that I find so attractive. I also love the intimacy between them. And why do I find this part so sexy?

"What a Slytherin does: going after what I want."

LOL. The context definitely helps. ;)

I do have a few questions. Why can Hugo see the Thestral? I am intrigued. And who wins the matchhhhhhhhhhh? D: While I understand why that wasn't a big deal for the story, I am curious and have to know.

A nitpick: it's the Impediment Jinx. "Impedimenta" is the incantation for the spell.

Other than that, ship on! Hehe.

~Natalie

Author's Response: Natalie! Thanks for reading this! I have to admit, thanks to you and Carole (haha she'll hate me saying that) I'm a bit of a fan of this ship. Weird, huh? I'm so glad you liked it! I thought there would be more witty banter myself, but then it probably would have read a lot like my J/L fics so I guess it's good that there's not. Plus Hugo has almost always been a Slytherin in my mind since I drabbled it in Ravenclaw a good two or three years ago. Also weird, yeah? I will fix the Impediment Jinx forthwith, thank you for that. And thanks for the lovely review!!~Gina :)

Wow, Jess! So short but so effective. This was beautiful to read, and the second section took my breath away!

Author's Response:

I'm glad you liked it. I miss just cranking out random one-shots of things that make me squee inside. And I feel like this pairing has major unf potential. The great thing is that I don't think I could burn myself out on writing either of these characters. *unf*

Thank you for the visit, mah darling. We shall be racing to pass Kerichi, hehe. ♥ you!

Seven Simple Years by HalfASlug

Reviewer: hestiajones Signed
Date: 11/02/12 Title: Chapter 1: Building Blocks, Foundations and a Troll

Oh my Prongs! This is one of the best thing that I have read in a long, long time. I am a huge Hermione/Ron shipper - have always been - and I don't know if I'd ever wanted somebody to write something like this, but now I know what has been missing in my life! Your characterisation and dialogue are both completely on point, and I cannot wait to read the remaining chapters.

My only issue is that there are a lot of technical errors strewn about the place, such as missing punctuations as well as incorrect use of dialogue punctuations, capitalisation errors, etc. If you like, I'd be more than willing to read through your chapters and help you clean them up :) I have given up beta-reading officially, but this is just too good. Keep writing!

~Natalie

Author's Response: Thanks for reading and reviewing again! Oh wow - thank you! That's really kind of you to say :) Haha - "the fics good, but you're ruining it!" Yeah, I know I can be a bit comma-shy and stuff. I am working on it. Um... yeah, that'd be great actually, thank you! If you don't mind obviously. Although I have no idea how to go about doing that on this site... But anyway, thanks for reviewing again :)

Uncommon Friends by Gmariam

Summary: When Draco Malfoy walked into a shop one night looking for help, he found the last person he would have expected: Neville Longbottom. To Neville's surprise, Draco accepted his help. GINAAAA! Well, this is a fantastic start! I'm surprised you got done with the background so quickly, but I'm also happy you did. They're friends already and I can't wait to see what happens in the later chapters.

Your characterisation is stellar so far. There are so many bits I loved: little touches, but of huge significance. Draco's pain is pungent; Neville's generosity fragrant ;)

What IS the full form of T.O.A.D.s, though? You have to tell me!

Hahahahahahahaha! I am wondering what I think you think I might be wondering, and before I'd finished reading it, I was like OMG SHE HAS TO WRITE A SEQUEL!

:)

Gina, I am so glad I handed over the prompt to you. I never would have come up with such a humongous task and do justice to it. Uncommon friends, indeed! I was shocked by Hannah's death, and even more by the arbitrariness of Draco's. But you took your risks with this and played with them well. Congrats on a well-deserved win!

The Night Before Christmas by HalfASlug

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: It was the night before Christmas and Ron Weasley's plans for a quiet night in with his pregnant wife and her infuriating cat don't quite go to plan.
Reviewer: hestiajones Signed
Date: 11/03/12 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Forgot to breathe at so many points while reading this because childbirth seems like such a scary ordeal D: but an enjoyable story in the end! You really get Ron and Hermione, and the only other author who have made me this enthusiastic and satisfied with Ron/Hermione fanfiction is WeasleyMom. Unlike one of the reviewers who felt the swearing was unnecessary, I felt it was appropriate. JKR does hint that Ron swears, and considering how freely the teenaged characters in The Casual Vacancy drops the F-bomb, I'd say that's a fair assessment that Ron would do as well. And as for Hermione, the best of us can slip up during the worst of times ;)

Author's Response: Thank for reviewing again! No! Don't forget to breathe! That can only end badly! It does seem somewhat traumatic, but you do get a half-decent reward at the end of it. Okay, so that's a huge compliment - thanks! Yeah, Ron clearly swears in canon but it is carefully covered up (well, except that one time :P) Hermione, I can understand. Rule one of Hermione writing is she never swears but rules are meant to be broken, I guess. Anyway, glad you enjoyed this!

Minnaa!

This is one of my favourite prose-poems here and elsewhere. It's short but so full. I love all the images you presented; they are vivid and so fitting for the Grey Lady's tragedy, and how you added some depth to her character with the "dust gathering in the corner of her mother's workroom" part. It throws a new light to their relationship.

HELLO ! :D First of all, let me say how thrilled I am that one of my fics inspired you to write something. Secondly, I enjoyed this a lot. There is something very ... exhibitionist and eager and bitter about the way Tom speaks in this fic, which is how I pictured him at that moment in his life. The ending is very much in character.
Last, but not the least, your prose is quite lucid.

Well done, Kaylee! I'm honoured. :)

~Natalie

Author's Response: You have just made my day!!! I wasn't sure this fic would get through, but I was pleasantly surprised when it did! I'm glad you got to be the first to review!!! I truly meant it when I said your story, The Receding, inspired me. I read it and thought, "Wow, what a great story!
