I am a twenty-something who fell in love with all things Harry Potter in high school and never grew out of it. The books are the best, but I love every single one of the films.

I prefer to stick to the canon-compliant fics, but occasionally I will wander into an AU. My favorites are Post-Hogwarts and Dark/Angsty. I never considered myself a shipper, but again, I go canon-compliant here. My favorite couple would definitely have to be Remus/Tonks, though. My favorite characters are, obviously, Lupin and Tonks because they're cool as hell, but I'm also a big fan of Dumbledore and his seemingly endless wisdom, Harry, Hermione, Ron (you've got to love the trio), Ginny, Sirius, and Severus Snape and his seemingly endless, witty cynicism. The Weasley twins are up there as well just because they're brilliant and they make me laugh.

Imperius by Pallas

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: “Imperius… Werewolves…You-Know-Who…” The last words of a dying man force Remus Lupin into a dangerous investigation at the infamous Feral Institute. Sequel to Oblivious; pre-reading would be useful but it isn’t vital.

I know this is an older fic so if any vegetables were thrown (though this is my first reading), it would have been long ago, but I have to say, I kind of saw this coming. What with the revelation that Rebekah was Anthony Goldstein's mother
(which I also saw coming. Goldstein was instantly recognizable to my Potter-trivia mind) and the talk between Reynard and Remus about Rolphe's grandson adoring Professor Lupin at Hogwarts, it just sort of clicked and made sense to me several chapters back. Excellent, though. I'm really enjoying meeting all the Lupins. And, though this fic is AU, I'm enjoying it very much.

In the Eyes of Others by Vindictus Viridian

Rated: Professors •
Summary: Severus has never seen the appeal of repetition, particularly of things that ended badly the first time. In his life, he has kept one pet, owned one broom, and had one close friend.

Winner of Mod Quicksilver Quill for Best Novel! Thanks, all!

Rating and warnings do not apply to all chapters; I just didn't want anyone hooked and then shocked.
"What is it?" His mother held out her hand, and he put the letter in it wordlessly. "Are you eleven already?"

His father lowered the newspaper to look at the calendar. "Yesterday. ‘Appy birthday." And that was the end of that.

Excellent insight in this chapter. Snape proved that even the most innocuous-seeming spells can be used in a dark way. It isn't the spells you use, but they way they are used. Excellent. This, again, ties into Rowling and everything she has Dumbledore say about choices and what not.

This is a truly intelligently written piece of fiction and I love all the little things you have incorporated from the books.

Dolohov's Whip, eh? So that's what he used against Hermione in the Department of Mysteries. Love it.

I've just started reading this fic and I quite like it. I love your characterization of Lucius Malfoy and I can see where all his "advice" has made Snape into the man we see in Rowling's stories. Great job. I will definitely continue to read.

I now see where the Professors rating comes in for this fic. I wanted to cry. But excellent job. I am so engrossed in Severus Snape that I literally can not stop reading.

Poor Severus, I do think that, as we all know, Harry would not see things quite the way Lily did, at least not where Snape is concerned. Not until the very end, anyway.

This has been a fantastic ride through the life and mind of Severus Snape. In a few hours, I depart for a screening of The Half-Blood Prince movie and I have a feeling that the events are going to hit me much harder after having read this story. Thank you for a wonderful tale.

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm glad you found it satisfying -- and wonder how the movie looked to you.

I absolutely love how you've incorporated the beginnings of what we learn about Snape as the Half-Blood Prince from that book as well as Deathly Hallows. Excellent job of portraying the teenaged Snape. I am enjoying this fic the more I read it. I can't wait to finish.

"...I cannot in honesty hold someone's father against him." Apparently, this isn't a statement Snape abides by later in his life in regards to Harry. This chapter truly made me love this fic. There is so much intertwined with Rowling's books. But the line that made me literally gasp: " This seems to be the day for sons; you're to have one too, also quite like his father, alas. I hereby command that you produce daughters just like yourself as well. And it seems you should beware of Dark wizards telling fortunes." Amazing. My roommate ran in the room to ask what was wrong and I had to sheepishly tell him that I was reading a fanfic and that Snape had predicted Lily's fate in her tea leaves long before the prophecy was ever made. Excellent work.

The History of Those We Thought We Knew by StaceyLC

Rated: Professors •
Summary: As Harry begins his quest for the remaining horcruxes, his world is turned completely upsidedown by the return of Severus Snape, and Harry learns more than he ever thought possible about Snape, his parents, and the burning question of Dumbledore's death.

This is an excellent start. It is a totally believable account of what could have happened after Snape and Malfoy apparated away from Hogwarts that night. Great job, You've definitely got me wanting to read much more!

Author's Response: Thank you

Not Only a Granger by ferporcel

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: [WIP] Post-HBP. Eleven years after the end of the war, Hermione finds herself in a delicate situation when her only son leaves for Hogwarts and threatens her most guarded secret: that he’s not only a Granger, but also a Snape! SS/HG.

The exchange between Nathan and Snape in class is riveting. I could just see the contempt and hurt in Nathan that he isn't treated any different now that he and his father are aware of each other. I absolutely love that Snape is unhinged by Nathan's behavior, it not only conveys Nathan's Gryffindor-ness, but also very much his cunning which obviously comes from Snape. You have done a great job with Nathan as a character, so keep it up!

The Right Questions by Vindictus Viridian

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: Severus has an apology to make to a first year student, in spite of misgivings and several personal rules of conduct.

This is rated for some shadowed implications of events past, none of which quite fit in the warnings.
Reviewer: MetamorphmagusLupin Signed

This was a delight to read. I think Severus' assessment of Ginny is spot-on as probably the altogether most intelligent and most fearsome of the Weasley clan. She's a spit-fire. We just don't see enough of that in the books. You've done a great job with her here and the play between her and Snape is great, even if nobody would ever believe it happened. ;-)

A Different Sort of Peace by Vindictus Viridian

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: At some point there had to have been a choice.

The logical place to begin a story is at the point of the first decision. But what if there were no decisions? What if, at every point, there was only one possible act? What if the story simply cannot be told?

Completed (though not posted) entirely pre-DH.

This was a touching story. Not exactly the kind of pairing I would usually imagine, but I was glued to the computer screen all day, so obviously something resonated in me. As always, I love the way you characterize Snape. I'm a little more into him as a brooding, misunderstood, tragic character--which you've done a great job with here as well--but you've also done excellently in showing "the best of him" as Dumbledore would say. Are we ever going to get to see a new series from you? Perhaps the Adventures of Lillian Snape? Keep writing, I love your work.

Once There Was A Darkness: Year One by C_A_Campbell

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •

She will face enemies, choices and danger, while struggling to deal with her past's dark secrets that, after all these years, still threatens to destroy her.

One girl's journey. One man's desperate search. One last chance for Severus Snape to find the daughter he lost.

Year One of Seven of the Once There Was A Darkness series. Year Two now posted.

OK, that was really anti-climactic for me. Why didn't they find each other? It's so sad, I was really expecting Severus to discover that Shiloh was his daughter. And what was with the August birthday? Are the records messed up? I did like the idea that Ellessa was so horrible that she branded her own infant daughter with the Dark Mark. When Severus finally does find out that Shiloh is his daughter and finds out about that, he's going to be livid.

Once There Was A Darkness: Year Two by C_A_Campbell

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: Winner of the 2008 QSQ for the Best Female Original Character. Shiloh Sander’s second year begins peacefully, but it is a peace that is easily shattered when words of blood appear on Hogwarts’ ancient walls. With rumours of the Heir of Slytherin floating through the halls, battlelines are drawn in the Slytherin common room, between those who will support the Heir and those who will not. Soon Shiloh must decide where she stands. But the choice is only the beginning. In the middle of it all, Severus Snape continues his diligent search to find the daughter he lost, never knowing that this is the year it will come to an end. One girl’s choice. One man’s deepest wish. One year that will change both their lives…forever.

Sequel to Once There Was A Darkness: Year One. Warnings of Abuse and Mental Disorders are for brief mentions of child abuse and insanity.

I liked this chapter. I think the interaction between Shiloh and Snape has been a bit lacking in past chapters, but I can see now that you've just been biding your time with those two. I hope they can have at least some semblance of a relationship. So glad to know that Jacob doesn't hate Shiloh and I am still very curious as to what is going on with him... Well done. I look forward to the update.

An Issue Of Trust by Sirenny

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: It is said that to be forewarned is to be forearmed. But sometimes, even with the knowledge of what is to come, the destination will always be the same - no matter the difference in the path travelled. Waking up one morning Harry finds his familiar surroundings eerily altered. Sent to a dark future shaped under the rule of Voldemort, in which all knowledge of his existence has been forgotten, Harry is forced to rely on one of the few people who remembers his name: Severus Snape. 6th Year AU. Nominated for best Dark/Angst story in the 2008 QSQ.

OK, I just read this story from the beginning straight through to where you are now and frankly, I'm hooked. I've noticed that you haven't updated in several months so I must ask: when will the next chapter be up?

Great story. Snape is great, Tonks is great. Harry is a little weak in that I don't think he is nearly cheeky enough toward Snape or nearly as impulsive and rebellious as he seems in the books. But, on the other hand, I could chalk that up to him being disoriented and having nobody else to trust. Maybe that characteristic will reemerge a little now that he knows Tonks is there as another ally.

Harry Potter and the Hero's Lament by L A Moody

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: With McGonagall firmly entrenched as Hogwarts’ new headmistress, Harry is enticed to return for his seventh year under unique conditions. Aided by Ron and Hermione, he embarks upon a Horcrux search-and-destroy mission using the school as the base of operations. Recognizing that saving the wizarding world from the ultimate evil is a rather daunting task for a seventeen-year old wizard, the Order of the Phoenix steps in to assist Harry on his journey. It soon becomes clear, however, that not everyone has the same lesson plan in mind for our hero. As the headmistress attempts to lay a clever trap to reveal hidden agendas, Voldemort waits in ambush at the one site that Harry is sure to visit.

But before Harry can face his nemesis, he must face down the inner demons that plague his own life and truly grow into adulthood. His activities are punctuated with school pranks, Quidditch, parties, and the requisite amount of rule-breaking that readers have come to expect from the trio.

Great chapter, but one question: are we going to see Snape again before all of this is over?

Author's Response: He's mentioned. But I just finished a long section tentatively titled "Snape's Soliloquy" for the sequel so I'm promising a number of long scenes, from his POV even, there. Feeling snarky anyone?

I won't judge you. I like Star Trek too. ;-)

Author's Response: But see, everyone does judge me, because Trekkie or not, they assume I love Star Trek. And I'm such a loser, I hate the show but I love the new movie to BITS. SO I'm at some weird halfway point, because Trekkies look disparagingly at me for not watching the show, and Trekkies look disparagingly at me for loving the movie-- and Spock in it-- so much.

Yes, quite the wait, but this chapter was worth it. Excellently written. I absolutely love all the interactions you have between Remus and Tonks. They're so real and fun, but also entirely motivated within the story. I really enjoyed the conversation between Remus and Sirius--you can really tell that Sirius cares for Harry and I can see why he wouldn't want to be pent up in a house after all those years in solitary confinement. Great job! I look forward to another update. (Soon, hopefully) ;-)

Author's Response: Thank you very much for reading and reviewing. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and I'll try to get the next one out a bit faster. ~Carole~

Alexandra Quick and the Lands Below by Inverarity

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary:

Seventh grader Alexandra Quick returns to Charmbridge Academy. This year she faces bullies from another wizarding school, a secret Dark Arts club, and the machinations of her father, but her greatest trial yet awaits her in the dangerous Lands Below.

This is the second book in the Alexandra Quick series.

These stories are so captivating. I get just as much into the story of Alexandra Quick as I do the story of Harry Potter. I am so intrigued to find out more about Alexandra and Abraham Thorn and the Confederation and the Thorn Circle. You have done an excellent job of creating an American wizarding world that really feels like it completely works within what J.K. Rowling conceived. Fantastic! When do we get to begin reading about Alexandra's third year at Charmbridge?
