The Dark Phoenix by L A Moody

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary:
Even in a time of peace, evil never sleeps…

In the post Deathly Hallows world Harry Potter is a broken man, rejecting the public’s view of him as a hero and seeing himself as a destroyer of lives. Although married to Ginny and embraced by the boisterous Weasley clan, he holds himself apart from true happiness. The only solace he finds is among the other shell-shocked victims of the war: George Weasley and Andromeda Tonks. But young Teddy Lupin is determined to unearth the joy his godfather once had for life and in so doing adds to the alternate dimension where the cost of Voldemort’s defeat was not so high.

In the alternate reality, it has been seven years since Voldemort’s defeat. Reclaiming his own destiny, Harry has built a new life for himself from the ruins of the Potter estate. Although he did not hesitate to claim Ginny as his own, it has been an unusually long engagement period as neither of them has been a hurry to take that next irrevocable step. For Harry, these extra years have allowed him to recapture some of the carefree days of youth as he established his career in the Auror Department. Determined not to follow in her mother’s footsteps, Ginny has been making the most of the intervening years to cement her career with the WWN. The Lupin clan has been steadily expanding with the eldest, Teddy, immediately establishing himself as a Metamorphmagus, sporting bright turquoise hair at birth. In contrast, his younger sister inherited the delicate beauty of the Black family. As her parents await the signs that will identify her as a witch, one has to wonder whether she has any unique powers of her own.

Although this story starts on a dark and disturbing note, it is ultimately a tale of hope, healing and survival. It serves as an epilogue to both, Cruel Moon for the Misbegotten and Harry Potter and the Hero’s Lament; and consequently, contains all manner of spoilers for the canon series as well as the alternate universe my prior tales have established. Reading those two previous stories is recommended. Contains original characters who were established in prior narratives.

Very nice and sad and happy and wow! I love it that the $$ will got to the beterment of werewovles!

Author's Response: So happy you liked the final blow to Umbridge’s ego. I so wanted something that wasn’t cruel, but still satisfying.

Again, another great chapter!!!

Author's Response: Glad you approve. I had lots of fun imagining the controlled chaos in the archives. Will be submitting next chapter within the next few days.

FAB!! Love Krum in this! :)

Author's Response: Glad you liked my take on Viktor. I wanted to make him personable enough that Hermione would have maintained the friendship. Shyness aggravated by feelings of not being like everyone else could easily have been misread as surliness during his year at Hogwarts. There’s more of him to come in the next chapter.

Love this and the last chapter! Can't wait to see how you nail Umbridge!

Author's Response: There’s no doubt that Umbridge is a slippery toad: hard to grasp and even harder to hold onto. The next chapter, which I am submitting today, contains a unique Dolores POV. Hope you enjoy!

Oh how thrilled I was to find that you had updated!! I really loved this chapter! You did Olivander alot of justice here! The bit about the two brothers was inspired! Great job!!

Author's Response: So happy you liked my take on Ollivander. I wanted to make him approachable without losing the eccentricity from his first encounter with Harry. Glad to know that the threads I untangled about the Priori Incantatem spell rang true.

Am caught up on other things, so I should be able to update more often. Next chapter is already in queue.

Oh my GOSH! Exciting!! Next chapter QUICK!!!

Author's Response: More excitement to come, but the roller coaster ride is not over yet! Just submitted next chapter.

So I take it Greyback has no contact with other prisoners? He isn't in there recruiting villians?

Author's Response: I hadn’t thought of that, but it’s distinctly possible. Something to keep in mind if I do a sequel, “The Darkest Phoenix of All.” lol

FAB!! Love it! I love the trick with the wolves and I hope there is more to what happens to dear Umbridge!

Author's Response: Glad you liked the climax to the main story line. There will be a little more about Umbridge, but mostly how it impacts the others. Hope you’re not too disappointed to learn that I’m not doing a police procedure version (don’t remotely have the knowledge for that) so you’ll just have to imagine Moody growling, “Book ‘em, Dano.”

Don’t think there isn’t more to come, though, as I still have a few subplots to wrap up and there will, as always, be some interesting twists.

ooooooo, as always I enjoyed reading this!! Can't wait for more!!

Author's Response: Glad to see you're along for the ride! New chapter to be submitted to the queue tomorrow.

Love it! Especially the part about Ron in the beginning! Hot head to the end, but so insecure! I really like Vicktor! Great job!

Author's Response: Thanks! Viktor continues to be one of my favorite characters, too. So pleased you liked Ron as well – he’s the one that I have the most problem writing.

"His hair looks like an arm pit"? Bahahaha! I love the part about Harry's grandparents!

Author's Response: Just goes to show you that the most biting insults don’t have to be profane. Humiliation cuts much more deeply than just about anything else.

and the plot thickens.......can't wait for more!

Author's Response: I’m thrilled that you’re so caught up in the plot. Am submitting next chapter to the queue today.

This was a great chapter! A lot of deep thought going on here! Can't wait for more! So I take the Dementors were bored? And what happened to Remus?

Author's Response: No doubt about it, very little is known about dementors. Since one of the few facts JKR gives us is that they are not really alive in the same manner as other creatures, I thought it an idea subject for the Department of Mysteries to study. Not that there aren’t going to be a lot of roadblocks; the primary of which is how they deal with employees’ morale which the dementors systematically leeches away. Truly, there’s enough material there for a whole other story, well beyond the boundaries of this tale. Suffice it to say for our purposes, Remus and Mad-Eye were so accustomed to conjuring up Patronuses as private messengers for the Order, they were able to escape the encroaching dementors in the nick of time. Clearly, Mad-Eye will be sending a rather strongly worded memo to his mate in the Department of Mysteries advising that they need to get a firmer handle on their subjects.

Wonderful! I totally enjoy how you write Snape and I hope you will include his prank in the next chapters!!

Author's Response: I’m thrilled that you like my take on Severus! I think the key to his character is that you can rework some of the rough edges, but you can never file them down. Otherwise, you loose the essence of the character. Rather like soda that’s gone flat. You’ll be pleased to know that I’m working on a Severus-centric tale for Christmas – which is really not that far away. And despite the new insight that he will gain, I promise he will still be his prickly, unrepentant self at the end.

I hope to tie up as many of the loose ends as possible in the few chapters remaining to this story. If not, I can always revisit events with a flashback in a future installment.

Fantastic!! You are really amazing at this! I love the take on Captain Hook and I can't wait to hear how you work out Umbridge!

Author's Response: Thanks for all the encouragement. It is truly music to my ears. There are more twisted tales in the upcoming chapter. Hope you like the final comeuppance for the Toad Woman.

The Resilient by Misdemeanor1331

Rated: Professors • Past Featured Story
Summary: Sequel to "An Aversion to Change."

It's Voldemort's world now: a world of corruption, betrayal, greed, and violence. A world of evil thoughts and evil deeds, where no one can be trusted, especially those closest to you.

But through it all, there must be strength. There must exist those who will stand up to totalitarian rule, who will say no when others submit, who must survive despite their condition. There must exist the resilient.

Eventual Draco/Hermione with plenty of plot. Very dark, so read at your own risk!

Author's Response: Ah, sorry about the tears, though it's a kind of "pat on the back" for me, you know? :P Hehe, well thanks for the review!!
