Green Tinted Hufflepuff by mgle_teacher

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Draco gets sorted into Hufflepuff, very much to his dismay.
Reviewer: Memish Signed
Date: 07/28/10 Title: Chapter 1: Green Tinted Hufflepuff

Oh my word I loved this! It was hilarious and fun to read, yet at the same time a bit disarming - poor Draco really was just a product of circumstance. I really do think the 'Puffs would have come to accept him and, in time, be able to change some of his attitudes. I love how we get to see his evolution through the year. Brilliant!

Author's Response: LOL - I'm glad you enjoyed this. I had a ball writing it, and this is one of my favorite AU stories I've written. =] Thanks for reading and thinking it's brilliant.

What Would You Do? by ron lover

Rated: 6th-7th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary:

WINNER! in the 2010 QSQ for best Canon Romance story. Thank you so much!

I take a deep breath so my voice won’t shake.

“What would you do if we died tomorrow?”

He takes a step away from me, but still keeps me in his arms. “What?”

“What would you do if you knew that we died tomorrow?”

“What kind of question is that?”

“Don’t give me that, James. You know that we are going to die soon. There is no point in pretending that we aren’t.”

James and Lily have a conversation two days before Halloween.

Ohhhh man. If I ever meet someone who is not a J/L shipper, I will refer them to this! It's hot and funny and yet not at all too fluffy. It's very real and I love the way you pull of this characterization. Well done. Beautiful.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! That's an amazing compliment. I tried to keep away the fluff because of what's happening in the story, and also because I'm not a big fan of reading it. I hope it wasn't too hot, because that wasn't what I was going for, but I wanted a balancce of everything that you mentiond. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing. : )

What Better Way by MagEd

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: I hadn't seen him since I was eleven, but he had a rather distinct look about him. It was hard, after all, to forget that black hair that stuck up in the back and the bright green eyes behind those glasses. And the scar — I had always thought it neat to have a scar shaped like a lightening bolt.

Jane Martin sees the odd, quiet boy she went to primary school with years ago in a jewellery shop and she's shocked to see how much things have changed for the boy with taped glasses and baggy clothes. *one-shot*

I LOVE this fic! Seriously, I think it is one of my favorites on the whole website. See, once a long time ago I read this, probably around when it first came out. And then today, my best friend's sister got engaged and it totally jolted a memory of this story in my mind so I came searching around looking for it!
And I just thought you should know how really great and memorable this fic is. Harry seems so truly awkward and you can just see how he is totally overreacting about what ring Ginny would want. You just want to laugh at the end when he gets cornered into proposing! Ginny is very IC I think, very spunky and bold! And Janie is a great OC, she seems very real - she's likeable and funny and normal.
Anyways, I just really love this fic and, well, that's all! :]

Author's Response: Oh, thanks so much! I'm glad it stuck with you and you came back to let me know. (And my congrats for your friend's sister!) It's always hard writing an OC that won't annoy people more than anything, so it's such a relief to hear that you find her likable :)

The Vindication Of James Potter by ToBeOrNotToBeAGryffindor

Rated: 6th-7th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary:

"James Sirius Potter, it is the judgment of the Wizengamot that you have been found guilty. You knowingly, in possession of sound mind and body, used the Cruciatus Curse and the Killing Curse in the intentional torture and murder of one Gregory Goyle the Third."

James Potter was going to Azkaban for the rest of his natural life, and his whole family was in shambles. His wife and child have fled the country, his sister was missing, and his parents were a wreck. However, James knew that he had larger problems: his guilt was coming more and more in question.

Though he knew that James was withholding information about the circumstances of the murder of which he had been found guilty, Harry had secrets of his own; however, even he could not handle this torrent of trouble alone. Can Harry trust his darkest confidences to anyone? Even family?

How will the Potter clan stop the downward spiral into pain and disaster, and can they recover what they've lost?

This fic was nominated for a 2010 Quicksilver Quill Award - Best Next-Generation Story.

It broke my heart seeing Harry so old and his marriage falling apart! I have always really been a Harry fan and in my mind, Albus really represented what maybe Harry would have been like if he hadn't been "the Chosen One" and he'd grown up normally. Al was truly brilliant and you could really empathise with him as well as James, though I was surprised the wizarding world had no precedent on the issue of rape!
Also it was very interesting to see your portrayal of Draco! I truly thought it was a possible scenario for what could have happened and it my heart I hope it's real (even though I guess none of it is real).
And I'm terribly on edge hoping you'll say what happens with Harry and Katie!!
You did a wonderful job, this plot would go just as well outside of the HP world as in it and I loved reading it.

Author's Response:

Ah, thanks for paying a visit to my little world that I've created. I really appreciate reader feedback so much!

Harry is, without a doubt, my favourite major character in the Potterverse, but he's also, in my mind, one of those men that are just not designed for marriage. He blindly accepts risk, keeps many secrets, and many times does things without thinking them out. This isn't who I built in this fic - Jo did that. I just extrapolated what could happen should these characteristics continue to manifest in his life, even after the Dark Lord's defeat. I truly do want him to be happy, but this course of events couldn't make any sense at all if he got a happy ending and Draco paid for it in blood.

Speaking of Draco, I really think that, with some proper characterisation and seeing canon events in a new light, could really be the man I made him to be. He's actually the subject of my next novel-length piece, which shows his road to redemption. It's halfway done, and when I'm finished editing and get to about 2/3 done, it will hit the queue. I, too, hold high hopes for this one.

My story is, above all, not a love story. Many of my reviewers forget that when they trash me for 'ruining' Harry and Ginny's marriage, but anyone with a couple of brain cells to rub together would realise that nobody would stay with Harry after what he had done in the course of their marriage, especially not someone as strong as Ginny. She's simply not that stupid, and to cast her to be that would be madly disingenuous.

Thanks again for reading, and the Epilogue is coming very soon!

Jess

She looks perfect.

She always does.

But there's a vague dissatisfaction beginning to grow inside Fleur, a nagging feeling that being perfect will not make her happy.

Thank you Emma (Amortentia x) for beta'ing this story. Thanks also to other members of MNFF- especially Natalie, who listened on AIM when I was pulling out my hair.

Wow I love it! It fit together a lot of things in my mind and really made me the Bill/Fleur pairing even more! Wonderful!

That was very funny! =] Seems to me a realistic portrayal of how poor Flitwick would feel taking on such a big job.

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked the story!

The Kurrawong Academy for Young Witches and Wizards by jenny b

And then Albus Dumbledore visits.

This is jenny b of Hufflepuff writing for the Fiction Junction I Challenge Thee Challenge. My prompt was "Write a oneshot about Dumbledore taking a tour of a magic school somewhere else in the world" and set by OliveOil_Med.

This was marvelously interesting! I like the idea very much, I wonder what kinds of mysteries could be hidden away at this little Australian school. I will definitely read more if you write about it.

Author's Response: Thank you! The school needs a bit of developing, but I think I definitely will start a fic based around it.

Love, Friendship and Other Things I Fail At by U-No-Poo

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary:

I didn't mean for this to happen. Really. My plan was to get through sixth-year without doing any more damage to myself. I've already wrecked so many good things in my life. I thought I was done with my self-destruction.

Apparently, I'm not. Because falling in love with Albus was not part of my plan.

Unbreakable by ToBeOrNotToBeAGryffindor

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary:

The marriage between Dorian Nott and Isla Black was the talk of the town, but to reporter Fredrick Whitlatch, it was yet another mundane societal write up. However, when the wedding started without the bride, his wish of a bigger, better story came true all too fast. What happened next went futher than his wildest imaginings.

Where was Isla?

This fic was nominated for a 2010 Quicksilver Quill Award - Best History Story.

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this piece. I loved your character Frederick, becuase he seemed very real, he was by no means perfect and yet, you still sympathised with him. Poor Isla with her awful father! I liked the idea of her having a disease that was still undiagnosed and her mum thinking she was "faking it." It was so sad and yet, it still had the happy ending. It was a very unique take on Isla and Bob's story, but it definitely worked.

Author's Response:

Thanks, Memish. I'm really glad you liked it. :)

I did write this one in a hurry (about 2 hours) for a challenge deadline. I think I sort of rushed it a bit, since I mostly wrote it for the sake of having something to submit (since my other submission for the Weddings Challenge was the good one), but it actually turned out better than I thought it would. I've read tragic romance, I've read soft, squishy romanc, and I've read just about every kind of romance, but there are few romances built from misunderstanding of a character from the outside, at least in fan fiction. I wanted to break into that ground.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you again soon.

Ra-Ra-Ravenclaw!

Jess

Summary: Follow the adventures of Harry Potter and his family as they go about getting a pet dog.
Reviewer: Memish Signed
Date: 07/25/10 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter One: At the Dursley's

Cute start! I like the the interaction between the kids, very sweet and innocent. Interesting how the Dursleys don't know about the Potter's magic! Is Dudley still very agressive towards magic? Why does he want to see Harry? How is their relationship now? I hope you explore more of the adult's relationships in upcoming chapters. I can't wait for the next update! I wonder if wizards often have dogs...

Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing, I'm glad you like it so far! I hadn't actualy been planning on talking about Harry and Dudley's relationship much more, but I could put some more in, or just create a whole new story.

I had to write a villanelle in English class next year, so I know first hand how AWFUL the format can be -- yours was wonderful. It flows well - really like a song - and fits form perfectly without feeling tense or awkward. I really love "Do not go gentle into that good night" and I love this similarly, especially "As we try to breathe in, bringing/Scant relief - oh, help, arise!" GAH! I don't even know what to say but that is so cool. Great, great work.

Author's Response: Thanks. =) I actually find villanelles fun. I mean, don't get me wrong - like rhyming, I hate it when I'm doing it because it's a pain. But a lot of the time the results are worth it. Thank you so much for your review - you made me blush.
