The Falcon and the Peacock by Equinox Chick

Rated: 6th-7th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: The year is 1543, and the heir to the Malfoy estate, Lucius, encounters the young Lady Elizabeth Tudor in the grounds of Hatfield House. It is a meeting, he later discovers, of his mother's engineering, for it is of the utmost importance that he strikes up a friendship with the King's daughter. But the Lady Elizabeth has a powerful protector in her governess, and only the highest political machinations can overcome the will of Kat Champernowne.

In the ensuing Tudor power struggle, no one factored love into the equation, least of all Elizabeth.

Disclaimer: I am not JK Rowling, but I think you know that by now.

This is Equinox Chick with her fourth entry for The Great Hall Cotillion.

Good start.

Author's Response: Thank you. ~Carole~

An interesting look at Anne. I don't think "The Other Bolyen Girl" was very kind to her.

Author's Response: I've not actually read The Other Boleyn Girl, or seen the film, so can't really comment on that. I'm ambivalent about Anne, but don't think she deserved death. Thank you for the review. ~Carole~

Intense chapter. And I like this Lucius a lot more than I expected to, seeing that he is the ancestor of the Lucius we know.
Dudley and Amy Robstart...umm, that would be the novel- Kenilworth, right? Although in that one they married when E was already queen and it was clandestine...but I suppose Scott took liberties...
I liked King Edward.

Author's Response: Um, I don;t know any of the novels. History states that Robert married Amy in 1550 when Elizabeth was sventeen. She went along with Edward VI. He did marry someone in 1578 called Lettice Knollys, who was the Queen's cousin, but not sure if that's the subject of Scott's novel, Basically the Elizabeth film took a lot of liberties with the facts as well. I've tried to be a little more accurate, but it's quite hard at times. Thank you for the review. ~Carole~

I haven't watched Elizabeth, but I read Kenilworth by Walter Scott, there he shows Dudley as a nobleman favoured by the Queen who marries Amy in secret and then refuses to acknowledge her because he wants to marry the QUEEN.

Author's Response: Ahh, well, the historical record show that she was at his wedding, so I think he's stretching the truth a little. In Elizabeth, she doesn't know he's married. Amy actually died in 1560, which left him free to marry Elizabth except the rumour was he'd arranged for her murder. It would also have been an unpopular move on Elizabeth's part. And I could go on about this for another 1000 words - ha ha - as the history of this obsesses me rather, but I won't. :D Thank you ~Carole~

In the name of St.Ottery, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? (although I guess the moment she named him...)
So did Lucius love her at all? Or was it all ambition?

Author's Response: Mwahahahahah - Sorry, I just loved the idea that the original Arthur Weasley was related to the Malfoys and that the red hair came from Elizabeth. This Weasley won;t be a King, but his great great-lots of great- grandson will have a song written about him - heh heh heh.

I think Lucius did love her in his own way. She was certainly the one he wanted, but he was ambitious and manipulative. I think, also, that Elizabeth loved him a little, too, but didn;t want to be under any man's thumb, as it were.
br> Thank you for all the reviews. ~Carole~

The Longest Start by HalfASlug

Rated: Professors •
Summary: It's the longest start but the end's not too far away... It took Ron and Hermione years to finally get together but after just eighteen months everything is starting to crumble around them.
Reviewer: Ruchira_M Signed

"You sure?" he asked, wrapping his long arms around her. "Because that's potentially quiet a long time now that we're not on an extended camping trip with the most wanted bloke in Britain."
Brilliant. And I suppose things go downhill from here?

Author's Response: Thanks for reading and reviewing! And er... yes. Although if they went anymore uphill you probably couldn't read this if you were diabetic so it is probably for the best.

Finally by Gmariam

Summary: Frank Longbottom is trying to propose to his partner and girlfriend, Alice Hamilton, but his attempts at romance are constantly being interrupted. If he ever manages to give her the ring, will she say yes?

So good of you to write this one since in the other long story it will take some time for Frank to get here, I suppose. Sirius being totally tactless and disruptive was so funny. And I loved how he finally proposed.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the review! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, the other story is a good year earlier so this scene won't happen in that one. I wrote it hoping it will get me back on track with that one as I do love these two now but am a bit stuck at the moment. So hopefully it will happen soon. Can't you just picture Sirius being like that for someone? Hahah I love including the Marauders if I can. Thanks again, I really appreciate all your reviews! ~Gina :)

A Feckload of Regrets by Equinox Chick

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: Sometimes Seamus Finnigan felt his life was feckload of regrets. Some were small regrets, like lending Nev his quill when he knew he'd lose it. But some were bigger, like believing his mam over Harry ... or encouraging Dean to go for it with Ginny Weasley.

But as long as no one saw his regrets, he could bury them under a smile and pretend they'd never happened.

Couldn't he?

Disclaimer: I am not JK Rowling.

This is Equinox Chick and this is my fifth entry into the Great Hall Cotillion Challenge thingy.

Thank you, Natalie, (hestiajones) for an on the hoof beta job.

I love how all your stories are in so many different styles and so "fecking" effortless.

Author's Response: Thank you! I love how you read them all and find lovely things to say in reviews. Much appreciated. ~Carole~

Seven by Gmariam

Rated: 6th-7th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: Peter Pettigrew is far more complex than anyone gives him credit for. And that's all he wants, from anyone and especially from her: acknowledgement. Love. Respect. Yet unlike them, he was willing to do anything for it, including sacrificing it all.

Nah. I still hate him. No matter hopw many of Peter's perspectives I try, I still hate him. This was very well written, by the way.

Author's Response: Thank you for the review! I was certain this would get none, given the subject, lol. I will admit there are times when I feel something akin to pity for Peter. Or times when I am convinced he could not have been so bad to do what he did--he was manipulated or frightened into it. Writing this story was not one of those times. >.< I hated his guts while I was writing this. I assure you I am not trying to change anyone's mind with it and gain him any sympathy! Although I wrote it quickly, it was hard to write because I really did not enjoy being in his head. At all. It reminded me what a traitorous rat he really was. So thank you for the well-written comment, because it was hard to pull off! And thank you for leaving a review, I really appreciate it! ~Gina :)

Lovely Rita by Equinox Chick

Believing in Fairytales by HalfASlug

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •

Lovely story. You brought out how hard it must be for muggle-borns, and especially someone as logical and reasonable as Hermione who likes to find answers.

Author's Response: Thanks for reading and reviewing! Yeah, like most kids are more accepting of weird stuff because that's how kids are, but for someone like Hermione who, like you said, loves knowing exactly what is going on, it must have been pretty difficult.

Concerns by Northumbrian

cute, really cute. Loved it. And it's unfair and outrageous they still don't know Ron. I think they should, if for nothing else then at least for the red hair.

Author's Response: Thanks. Had Ron still been working at the Ministry, I'm sure that they would know him. The red hair is a bit of a giveaway, but a disinterested receptionist wouldn't care. -N-

Depressing, but ends with hope.

Almost by Gmariam

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Remus Lupin had no expectations when he came to Hogwarts to teach. He did not expect to stay on staff past the first full moon yet alone the entire school year. He certainly did not expect to fall for the Muggle Studies professor…nor did he anticipate how much one student, one prisoner, and one night would change the life he had almost had with her.

Guess what? the minute I read your summary I though of The Walnut Tree and the part where everyone thinks something's going on between Lupin and Charity. I love that story and I love this too, but this is too short. You must you musty you must update soon. *petulant fan- rant*

Author's Response: As my author's note said, that is EXACTLY where I got the idea from and I loved it - the pairing, that is. Carole's story too, yet as many authors sometimes do, I am becoming fond of Remus/Charity. I'm so glad you liked it. Thank you so much for reading this. All of the chapters will be short, but I'll have two more this week so at least the updates will be quick! I hope you enjoy some more - thanks again! ~Gina :)

Oh double update, thank you thank you. Can I have a bit of interaction with/or thoughts dwelling on Harry & his friends too? Or even the twins and suppose they remind him of James and Sirius?

Author's Response: You're welcome - and thank you for the review! Not sure about Harry or the twins, but I shall take them under consideration, esp. the latter as I did have April Fool's Day roughly penciled into my outline, lol. Thanks for reading! ~Gina :)

Remus stepped around the desk and led them toward the door with the smile he'd been holding back the whole time. “I don’t think Professor Snape liked green hair back then, either,” he replied with a wink.

win win total win.
Meeting the parents, hmm...seems to be something's gonna go wrong. And so Remus likes pink hair, does he? Bubblegum pink? Interesting.

I am so glad he punched Snape. You know, Prince tale and "always" and everything later, I still really don't like Snape very much. :/
