How Did I Come to Love the World of Potter?
When I was in third grade, I begged my parents to let me read Harry Potter. But I am from a Christian family, and my parents did not approve of witchcraft. They would let me read fantasy novels, but did not want me to be "influenced." Throughout fourth grade I begged, pleaded, and whined to read Harry Potter. None of my friends had ever read it and I could not go to them for reference. It did not occur to me to research Harry Potter on the computer (though I am rather glad that it didn't).

In fifth grade I continued to beg, but eventually gave up. I was still in fifth grade, and it was Christmas. Our family had just returned from Alabama, and as we had spent Christmas there, we decided to open up our presants there and then. One of my gifts was a copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. But it was late, and I was not able to immediately begin reading. The next morning, as I held the book in my hands, I had my doubts. I am a lover of thick books, and had heard that the Harry Potter books were very thick. But this one wasn't. It was thin, a mere three hundred and nine pages. I had to admit that I was disappointed. But, after nearly two years of constant pleading, my mother was not about to let me give up so easily.

Therefore, that evening found me curled up in bed reading the book. It was love at first page. That first, clearly printed line is still embedded into my mind. Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. I began to read my new book, greedily devouring the story within. By that March, after many weeks of being stuck at the bottom of various waiting lists, I had finished the series. I cried as I closed the seventh book for the last time, because I never wanted it to end.

That summer, I was slightly (and very, very secretly) disappointed that I did not get a letter allowing me to be whisked away to a school of fantasy and magic. I was most particularly displeased that, rather than attending Hogwarts, I had to attend a middle school where I had no friends and knew no one. But I made friends and managed to fit in. I doodled Harry Potter symbols and scribbled quotes on my jeans, most commonly the word "Always" above a picture of the Deathly Hallows symbol. By the time I was in seventh grade, I had gotten one of my friends to read Harry Potter. He is currently on the third book. But I was faced with a challenge in what I privately think of as my second year--getting a boy who hated Harry Potter, and books in general, to read the story that had so captivated me. After a few weeks of constant persistance, I gave up, not wanting to ruin a perfectly good friendship with a boy who I thought of as both friendly and rather cute.

Then, one night, I received an email from him requesting to borrow my copy of the Sorcerer's Stone (now battered and bearing seven tally marks on the inside cover to indicate how often I had managed to read it without my parents noticing how obsessed I had become over the past two years). I obliged. Within days, I realized what had happened. This boy, who had hated reading and books in general, was suddenly attacking the Harry Potter books with as much enthusiasm as I had. I was thrilled that I had managed to change someone's view of reading in such a postive way.

This December 30th of 2011 has symbolized two years since I finished the first Harry Potter book. Within this amount of time I have fallen in love with a story of friendship and courage that has brought me together with so many wonderful and different people that all seem to share on thing in common--a love of Harry Potter.

WOW. You are truly an AMAZING writer. I can totally imagine all of this--and you do a great job depicting the characters!

Alexandra Quick and the Thorn Circle by Inverarity

Rated: 1st-2nd Years • Past Featured Story
Summary:

Winner of the 2008 Quick Silver Quills Award for Best General Story.

The first book in the Alexandra Quick series.

The war against Voldemort never reached America, but all is not well there. When 11-year-old Alexandra Quick learns she is a witch, she is plunged into a world of prejudices, intrigue, and danger. Who wants Alexandra dead, and why?

This story is canon-compliant with the Harry Potter universe, but the characters and settings are all original. I've put a lot of work into envisioning a world as detailed as the original series; I hope you enjoy it.

Are you J.K.R.? Just joking just joking...or am I? Moving on from my deranged humor, I think that you are a brilliant author. I can actually convince myself that I am reading a novel instead of Fanfiction!

Great writing! Brian reminds me of Ron and Bonnie is rather like Ginny--he's the overprotective big brother who loves his little sister more than anything while she's the independant (yet rather accident prone) little sister who wants to prove that she can fend for herself.

After much deliberation and input from all you guys who have read thus far, I have officially decided to continue this story. It was initially supposed to be a one-shot, but I've decided I already have too much of my heart invested in it to quit now. :) Second chapter in progress. Thanks, all! Advice and reviews are still very welcome!

Usually I don't like AU, but that was awesome! ;)
You should do some of this from Harry's POV that would be really cool!

Author's Response: Wow, that is a fantastic idea! I hadn't even thought of that... that would be really fascinating and really touching. Thanks, and thanks for the praise as well! :)
