The Lions of Gryffindor by Equinox Chick

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: It is June 1976 and The Marauders are at the top of their game. From the outside they look to have everything. But appearances, as the saying goes, can be deceptive.

James is discovering that not everything in life is his for the taking. Sirius knows he will have to defy his formidable family. Remus lives in constant fear of his life beyond Hogwarts. As for Peter... Well, Peter is struggling to live up to his friends.

The ties of friendship are strong, but war is raging and with a dark power rising those ties will inevitably fray.

Added to the mix is an adversary called Severus Snape, some lost House Points, a prank or two and a whole lot of Lily.

This is a Marauder tale.

This is a story of what made them special.

This is a story of why it started to go wrong for The Lions of Gryffindor.

OH MY GOOD GODRIC! Lions of Gryffindor won the 2009 QSQ for Best Marauders' Era Story. Amazed and incredibly grateful to those who nominated, judged and have beta'd this fic. THANK YOU.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite Marauder Era piece. The story seems so natural, and all the characters seem perfectly aligned with what we know about them from the books. Looking forward to more, whenever it comes!

Author's Response: Thank you very much. I do enjoy writing this, it just takes a bit out of me. ~Carole~

I love this story! Out of curiosity, do you have a planned number of chapters for Drakeshaugh?

Author's Response: Thanks for the review.
When I planned this story, I would have told you it would be 20 or so, now, I'll say 24-39, I think.

Dear WeasleyMom,
This isn't a review specific to this piece alone, though it certainly applies, but of your work in general. I am pretty new to the world of Harry Potter fanfiction, and I cannot say that my overall experience has been blissful. More often than not, the works I find around here are so far removed from how the characters I have come to love would actually behave that I feel like my love for Harry Potter has been poisoned by falsity and delusion. Such is not the case with you. I just wanted to thank you for writing faithfully to the characters that JK has given us. Your works make up a large percentage of the few that I have actually enjoyed reading. So, thank you, WeasleyMom, for respecting the sanctity of the world JK has spun for us.

Author's Response: Thanks so much for this lovely note. I have branched out with my own reading, though my f-list would probably not give me so much credit. Hehe. I read some non-canon, but to be honest, I don't read the trio characters with non-canon partners... it just makes me sad. I'm glad you think I've handled the characters in a believable way, and thrilled that you've found my stories entertaining. I hope I don't disappoint you anytime soon. Thanks again for taking the time to let me know. :) ~Lori

Ordinary Magic by WeasleyMom

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: Ernie Macmillan has had a difficult year, suffering three losses in two months’ time. Life is dreary, and each day seems far too much like the one before and the one to follow.

But on any regular day, extraordinary things can happen, can change the course of a journey… especially when an obligatory dinner party, a meddling best friend, and a familiar face from the past come together at just the right time.

This is WeasleyMom of Hufflepuff, writing for the Great Hall Cotillion Challenge.

Thanks to Natalie/hestiajones for beta reading this in a quick turnaround.

This was very well done! I love your characterization, it's so realistic. I'm excited to see how the story unfolds :)

Author's Response: Thanks. The deadline is end of February, so more will be coming soon (or else!). I'm glad you think the characterization is working... hope you come back to read the rest. :)

This was an amazing story. I read the entire thing in one sitting, and then tore through your review responses for little scraps that may not have found their way into the final cut. When I saw you'd written more and posted it elsewhere, I made a mad dash for that and read the thing again! It messed with my sleep schedule a little bit, but I regret nothing :) The characters are fantastically fleshed out and believable, and their journeys are beautifully paced. Quite a lovely piece of work!

Author's Response:

I have to say that I'm immensely flattered that you found something I wrote so engrossing. I love stories that take me away from everything in a mad rush of ihavetoknowwhathappensnextorangggggggggst. I think you know what I mean, hehe.

Thank you so much for reading and letting me know what you think. I wrote this story in rather a mad dash, but luckily, I spent the time to streamline it for MNFF. The extended version is, alas, just smuttier rather than having more content. But if that's your sort of thing, then you're definitely welcome to drop by there, as well. I wouldn't say no to some extra reads. <3

Writing this story has been an amazing experience, especially because of readers like you and how many people have told me they now care about character they'd priorly never given a second thought. I feel like that's the real accomplishment. I loved these characters before this story, but now that I've been on this adventure with them, I revere them as almost canon now.

That's enough out of me. I've probably already talked your e-ear off enough, but again, thank you for reading, reviewing, and feeling passionate about the characters and their lives. That's worth all the tacos in Texas. :D

Seven Simple Years by HalfASlug

Rated: 6th-7th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: The story of Ron and Hermione through a series of missing moments. Who said love was simple?
Reviewer: skthebear Signed
Date: 09/26/12 Title: Chapter 1: Building Blocks, Foundations and a Troll

I love this! Missing moments are my personal favorite and these are very skillfully done. The conversations flow so naturally, and you have done a fantastic job expanding on the relationship between the two of them through the years, while at the same time staying true to their characters.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for reading, reviewing and the kind words :) The next update shouldn't be too far away!
