I'm a 50-something American woman. Even though I've always loved to write, I've put it aside for some time. Now as I contemplate my nearly empty nest, dusting off my writing chops seems to be a good move.
My favorite literature includes:
C.S.Lewis - Chronicles of Narnia, Space Trilogy, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters
Diana Gabaldon - Outlander series
L.M. Montgomery - Anne of Green Gables series
Sigrid Undset - Kristin Lavransdatter
My tastes vary, depending on my mood.
I have always been an avid reader, and love all things Potter!

Title: Chapter 32: Chapter 29 Part B
I loved the novelty of Severus having younger sisters, and how he related to them. It showed a whole different side of him that we usually do not see.
Hermione and Severus' wedding was so romantic, especially their beautiful vows.

Title: Chapter 29: Dead Heads and Babies and Birthdays
Thanks for the new chapter. I'd forgotten how much I like this story. I'm also a huge Snape fan and am thrilled that you've introduced him into the storyline (though he seems less than thrilled to be included in the wild and crazy collection of former Headmasters!).
Author's Response: Thank you, Martha! Gosh, I'm glad a Snape-fan took notice! Hee. Yeah, I giggle whenever I picture him up there, stony-faced while the rest of them gossip. LOL.

All of your Hermione/Snape stories are excellent, but this one is my favorite by far.
I am a huge Snape fan, and you have a gift for keeping him in character yet stretching him in a totally believable way. Your 17-year-old Snape's POV is spot on.
I'm very much a sucker for stories that give characters a second chance. This one touched many chords. Loved it, loved it, loved it!

Title: Chapter 13: A Breakdown, a Bike and a Barmy Blonde Again
I’m loving this story, Neil! It has been a refreshing break after reading too many romances lately. All the interactions between the moms waiting for their kids bring back many memories of when my kids were in elementary school. This is such a universal experience no matter what part of the world you live in. And by the way, I could swear that you must have been spying at my school gate. I recognized Scary Mary, the gossipers, and some of the others right away.
Looking forward to more chapters! - Martha
Author's Response: Thanks for the review.
I thought that this was a romance (of sorts). It may not be young love in all its angsty uncertainty, but this particular chapter involved a couple going on a date. I’ll admit that (as a schoolgate Dad) I was a little uncertain about this story, but the school gate experience does, after all, seem to be universal. Does every school gate in the world have a “Queen BeeI try to update once a month, that’s pretty much top speed. The next chapter will be another “Interlude†and but in the meanwhile there will be one (possibly two) chapters of Hunters and Prey. That story isn’t very romantic, either.

Summary: It’s been almost a year and a half since the war ended, and life is looking good for Susan Bones. She shares a flat with Hannah Abbott (and occasionally Ernie Macmillan, now Hannah’s boyfriend), plans on applying to train as an advocate soon, and follows no less than five programs faithfully on the WWN. And then things get even better when she falls into a weird but wonderful relationship with a violinist named Robin Chanticleer, a larger-than-life character who reminds her of her favorite radio personalities. In fact, you could probably sum up her life right now with the phrase “weird and wonderful.”
But good things don’t always last forever, and her relationship with Robin, and even Robin himself, are not all they seemed at first. Will she and Robin work things out and live happily ever after, or is their relationship doomed to founder?
This story is a sequel of sorts to Honest to the Bone, but you probably don't need to read Honest to the Bone to understand what's going on so whether you choose to read it first or not is up to you.

I like the way you’ve portrayed Susan in your story. Hufflepuff characters are often written off as dull workhorses, and giving Susan a love for her comedy programs and music adds dimension to her character. I can see her getting involved in a more serious relationship with Robin, and hope it works out for them J.
Author's Response: I'm a Hufflepuff myself, so I can't write off the canon Puffs! (Love them to death actually). And we'll see how it goes with Robin. :D Thanks for reviewing.

Summary: There is a thin line between love and hate. There is an even thinner line between Gryffindor and Slytherin; the willingness to do anything to achieve their goals. Gryffindors cannot see the big picture, and if they come to a decision to choose between the greater good and their loved ones or himself, they would sacrifice the world for their friends.
Slytherins are different. We know the value of sacrifice, but there is something else that separates us from those who wear red and gold. We will fight as hard as we can, in any way possible, even if it may be seen as unjustified or morally wrong. Gryffindors let their consciences get in the way of the greater goal. We don’t, but no one believes that we can fight for the right cause. They remember us as the evil, idiotic, or simply power hungry. They don’t remember us for what we are; who we are. We’re here to change that.
They
will remember us, and they will remember us as those who fought all prejudice and cruelty simply because were were done with it. They will remember us, and the next time they think of a phoenix rising from the ashes they will remember this phrase:
Remember the Slytherins.

Title: Chapter 7: Lottie and Thomas
Ellie, first of all, your story is very inviting. The beginning summary and prologue really drew me in. I totally love stories about redemption, and am looking forward to seeing all the things the Slytherins will do to change others’ perceptions and to accomplish their goal of winning the House Cup.
Don’t feel that you have to change your characters or your universe to suit other people. I’m a very AU kind of person myself, and I frequently like to tease myself with my very own “what if†kind of prompts when I write. The problem with writing AU, though, is that not everyone wants see things the way that you do. I don’t like or agree with the story line of every single non-canon pairing or AU story that I read, but if it is well written I enjoy it for what the author is trying to portray.
You are writing about families that have become dysfunctional because of their experiences in the war, and that alone is rather dark and difficult. You are doing a good job with it, your story does allow me to comprehend why those who have been hurt badly can harbor prejudice, even towards their own who have made choices they don’t agree with.
The only thing I might add is perhaps a little more background about Al’s relationship with his family. Somehow I can’t see Harry or Ginny not getting what Al goes through at school. He doesn’t tell them, of course, but both his parents are very insightful people …
Keep on writing – I’m looking forward to more!
Martha
Author's Response: Thank you, Martha. :) You don't know how glad I am you responded. I understand what you're saying; the way I used to tend to avoid Slash, and with it all being compared to the reader. I know that the summary is a bit of a mindful, and honestly, I don't know who wants to read about Slytherins being good. :) I'm glad you decided to take a look.
I'm also thrilled I'm getting the point across about the changes I created. (I wonder if it could almost be considered AU ...) But I'm glad I'm not completely murdering it. :)
As for Al ... I've kind of been avoiding that on purpose. There is a certain point coming up in around five-six(ish) chapters in the story which will cover that, but I promise I'll get into it a bit more. I'll post the next chapter after I'm done here. :) Thanks a million, Martha, for the fabulous review.

Summary: Samuel Radley is a wizard born without magic. Coming from a family with generations of witches and wizards, his brother Adrian has never really understood why Samuel has been left without, especially when there are others, with no magical blood at all, who somehow find themselves able to do magic. Title: Chapter 1: be a bright red rose and come bursting the concrete
Wow. I don't agree with either of the prior reviews. I found the style of this story to be a perfect fit for the no-win situation that Adrian finds himself in. I actually felt that it ended on a positive note, with two different interpretations: in making the first move Daphne is showing the first sign of caring, or by not chasing her Adrian realizing his ability to move on. Good job!

Summary: The year is 1543, and the heir to the Malfoy estate, Lucius, encounters the young Lady Elizabeth Tudor in the grounds of Hatfield House. It is a meeting, he later discovers, of his mother's engineering, for it is of the utmost importance that he strikes up a friendship with the King's daughter. In the ensuing Tudor power struggle, no one factored love into the equation, least of all Elizabeth.

Intriguing premise. There was much more room for wizarding influence on society before the Statute of Secrecy, and since I'm a big fan of historical fiction, I'm looking forward eagerly to see where you go with this.
