My Penname is BrokenPromise because that is how I found this Harry Potter.
When I was younger, I saw a trailer for a Harry Potter movie, and it scared me. That day I decided that I would never have anything to do with Harry Potter.
Just before DH1 came out in cinemas, a friend told me that Dumbledore died. I knew a little bit of Potter background and I quite liked Professor Dumbledore, so I asked her who had done it. She showed me the first book and said, "Read it." I read them all within two weeks, and then watched DH1 in the cinema.
Having read all the books and seen all the movies, I started writing a Fanfiction, and then looked for inspiration online. What I found was this archive and all the wonders within. Like many others, I have enjoyed the work on this site. I started writing because I thought I ought to give something back.

I would like to thank you if you are reading this and hope that you have enjoyed/will enjoy my work. I also post poetry on the beta boards (mostly for the wonderful challenges that are set over there), which I may eventually get round to posting here.

The Sweetest Sin by annie

Rated: Professors •
Summary: In the years following Voldemort's victory in the second war, Muggle-borns must become slaves and servants to pure-bloods in order to survive. Over time, Hermione Granger has learned to suppress her pride and independence in households where she is considered lower than dirt. She thought she would be prepared for this new family, just like she was for all the previous ones. What she didn't know was that this new family was none other than Draco Malfoy's. Will she manage hold up when she finds herself struggling to withhold her sharp tongue, returning hatred, and...something else?

The last chapter of this story has been posted! Thanks for reading :)

All Kathryn wants is to catch your attention, but you brush her off every time she tries. And Tommy - Tommy looks up to you. It's your job to teach him everything he needs to learn but no, you never even look at him...
"Don't even attempt to tell me how to raise my children," he yelled.
I swear this is from the Sound of Music.
But so far this is really good. :)

This metaphor...wait a minute. You said Hermione's tears missed the flame..so was the raindrop Iris' tear? Or maybe Draco's?

All I Ask of You by MoonysMistress

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Sequel to By My Side. There's trouble in Dreamland for Remus and Tonks, who have recently professed mutual love for each other. The trouble? There is no Dreamland. Why does it seem that all Tonks and Remus are doing is avoid each other? Written to the song "All I Ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera. PG for language, mostly. R&R, darlings!

That was lovely. I read it listening to Alll I Ask of You! The characterisation was spot on and the canon was refreshing to a person who often just reads AU or OC.

The Power Of Suggestion by FriendsOfSnape

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: "Be careful what you wish for," the old adage goes. So what happens when Hogwarts is under a spell where what you say is what you get?

Chappie 14 is UP! And while it is the end, let us not be sad, but instead read the insanity that has driven so many to review and nearly wet themsleves with delight.

I Don't Know How to Love Him by MoonysMistress

Rated:
Summary: James Potter has pursued Lily Evans for six years, and for six years she's spurned him. Now, in their seventh year, Lily notices something that's been hiding inside her. When the two are locked in the ever-so-cliched locked room, can she work out her inner turmoil in enough time to speak her mind? One-shot MWPP seventh year, songfic to the song "I Don't Know How to Love Him," with a little creative interpretation and a different ending. W00t for Broadway musicals!

Nice! I loved it, especially Ani, because she's so practical and down-to-earth and that was exactly what Lily neede at that moment.

Soap Pie by Lirael Astarael

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: *ONE-SHOT* After carefully observing (ahem) a row between Ron and Hermione, Fred and George concoct an evil plan...and a pie. A sniff of Harry/Ginny and, of course, the odor of pie.

Typical Fred and George, getting ideas off their poor mother again! But truly classic. Keep it up!

Barbie Girl by CraftySlytherin

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: It's just your average, boring Summer day on Privet Drive. Or is it? Harry is stuck doing another one of his many thankless chores, when he hears something VERY interesting coming from Dudley's room and goes to investigate.
Reviewer: BrokenPromise Signed
Date: 03/07/12 Title: Chapter 1: One-Shot

That was brillliantly funny!
When he was singing, I had this (rather too) vivid image of Dudley jumping up and down on the bed and singing into the barbie's head like a microphone. Really really out of tune. It was just too funny for words.

Yours To Break by Burrowbrat

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: A one-shot of Hermione’s thoughts after overhearing an innocent conversation one day that devastates her to no end. Quote: Do they not know I have worked years to build up these beautiful, hope filled walls; only to have them dashed and taken from me in an infinitesimal second.
Reviewer: BrokenPromise Signed
Date: 03/06/12 Title: Chapter 1: one-shot

Beatifully written and very sad, although I did notice quite a few errors with spelling/grammar.
'How dare them' should be 'How dare they.'
'I had almost began to believe' should be either 'I had almost begun to believe' or 'I almost began to believe.'
'I still fill the same for you' should be 'I still feel the same for you.'
'do women not want to be pursued.' should end with a question mark.
'my very sole was taken down' should be 'my very soul was taken down.'
However, mistakes aside, I really liked this. Hermione was not OOC to me at all. I felt that the bit about his brother's wedding was slightly irrelevant, but it was well explained. It was very sad though and like another reviewer, I would suggest re-categorising it to Dark/Angsty. But I really really thought that it was very lyrical and absolutely beautiful.

Truth Be Told by CraftySlytherin

Catch Me If You Can by badonkadonk

A Different Man by lmageous

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: What would have happened if Tom Riddle Sr. had stayed with Merope, and fallen in love with her himself? What would have happened if Merope and Tom Sr. raised Tom Jr. together? What would have happened if Voldemort had chosen to go down a different path, be a different man, and not the cruel Dark Lord? A one-shot.

A Gryffindor Riddle: now that is interesting. i really enjoyed this insight into not only what could have been, but, (at least to me) by extension, what he didn't have in his real (JKR canon) life.
I would've liked to see more of his interaction with his classmates as a schoolboy, but apart from that, I really loved it!

Sliding Drawers by Loup_garou

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: It is argued that the most minuscule of occurrences can shape the course of history irrevocably. Butterflies flapping their wings overzealously, missing a train/forcing open the sliding doors of a train and catching it/getting your finger stuck in the sliding doors of a train as you attempt to force them open and having to run alongside it for the duration of the journey as an alternative to having it ripped off…and other such minutiae. Thus it was that, on a cold, wet night seventeen years ago, in a room above the bar at the Hog’s Head Inn, that Severus Snape made his (skid)mark. The History of the Potterverse is now at stake, and it remains for Lily Potter (with a little help from Lupin) to sort it all out. BE YE WARNED - this story contains pants. Underpants. (This story is intended as a bit of light-hearted fun and should be read as such, even if it is rather OOC!) Final chapter is up! Gather round, my children, and witness the astonishing finale!

Chocolate Connection by MaraudersAffair

Hi, I really enjoyed this so I felt that I ought to review and say how much I enjoyed it.

I came across Snupin accidentally only a week ago, but I daresay I continue to be intrigued by the ship. However, the end of the story made me think that perhaps Lupin was cheating on Sirius with Snape...perhaps there's more to him than meets the eye.

I really loved the description, especially the Buldger hard ice at the beginning. However, I felt that the ready "Ask away" was slightly OOC for Snape, although I felt that the sneer and feeling stupid afterwards sort of made up for it. Despite this, aside from a few other things similar to the one I mentioned, the characterisation was good, especially with such mysterious and multi-layered characters (but which ones aren't?). I know first hand that Snape is very difficult to write, and I imagine that the others would be just as difficult, because they are human (at least most of the time)!

Well done on such a good piece!

Revenge is a Dish Best Served to a Weasley by CraftySlytherin

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: SEQUEL TO TRUTH BE TOLD. After the events of the day Hogwarts' pumpkin juice had been spiked with truth potion, Hermione vowed revenge. Many students were still under it's effects, even after it should have worn off. Hogwarts' most famous pranksters should have know better than to mess with Hermione Granger. She was about to show them that revenge is a dish best served to a Weasley.

The Room of Rejection by Gmariam

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Harry had hidden the Half-Blood Prince’s potions book in the Room of Requirement to avoid turning it over to Professor Snape. On the morning of Dumbledore’s funeral Harry goes for a quiet walk through Hogwarts and ends up back at the Room of Requirement. He goes in, thinking to retrieve the book, but leaves with something quite different.

This is a missing moment - of sorts - from HBP. It is very reflective, as Harry ponders the choices he has made, and the choices he faces. But there is a brief touch of Hogwarts quirkiness at the end as Harry experiences a poignant connection with someone he’s lost.

The thought of Dumbledore bowling had me chuckling too! Harry thinking about getting the potions book or not was really good and I know exactly who those shoes should belong too next...

Author's Response: I remember having a lot of fun working those little details in, and I love it when people notice! Thank you so much for reading this old, old story! I really appreciate the review! ~Gina :)

Remus/Lily: a pairing that I never really contemplated before. A really nice story which got me thinking a bit.
When I read that James was going to be there I just thought 'Oh My God. Is he going to speak against the marriage' but he didn't, and however interesting I think that would've been, I'm glad he didn't.
