I first read this ages ago, back when I was one of those un-reviewing heathens, and then read it about 5-6 times after that. Since you started saying nice things about my fic the guilt over not reviewing has sort of become unbearable. I'm sorry this is so overdue.
This is one of my favourite R/Hr stories ever. Everything about it is - them. I love how Ron is still Ron but has clearly matured. I love Hermione's note, how she is so obviously hurting but still thinks she will be okay on her own. The whole intimacy of Ron lying behind her and her snuggling up to him on instinct. I also really like the fact that there is no reason that they can't conceive. So many fics put it down to past injuries but this is just so much more heartbreaking and hopeless. Even with all their bravery and smarts, they have no way of getting over this. On a lighter note, Hermione wanting to drown her sorrows in a mountain of books and Ron knowing this is about as perfect a characterisation as you could hope to read.
If it wasn't for the fact that we know that Rose is on her way soon this fic would have destroyed me.
Author's Response: Unreviewing heathens... haha. Well, guilt was never my intention, but I can hardly deny the smile this review brought to my face. I'm very grateful this fic has received so much love. It's so short, and so not what I usually see written about these two. I actually wrote it for another Romione shipping friend for her birthday and was a little nervous to post it. Wasn't real sure there would be an audience for a story that really happens because Hermione started her period. (Can't believe I just typed that.)
I read this story ages ago and have only just got around to reviewing because I am a terrible person. Sorry.
I can honestly say that I have not cared about the friendship troubles of 10-11 year olds this much since I was 10-11. On paper, this story shouldn't have worked. There's a distinct lack of magic, multiple O/C's, male and female lead characters with a strictly platonic relationship... pretty much everything that readers avoid. Throw in time travel or a long-lost child and you would have had the full set.
Despite all of this, the story was interesting, engaging and completely original. None of the O/Cs seemed 2D or forced, Hermione was so perfectly in character it was a bit scary and you had me genuinely upset and raging against Jamie's dad over a story about a boy, a girl and books.
I'm gushing here but you're an awesome writer. This is an awesome story and deserves to be featured (well done btw!)
Now, I don't want to be one of those annoying people, but any plans for a post-DH sequel? Just a one-shot maybe?
Author's Response: Thank you so much for reviewing! And you're not a terrible person!! I'm so pleased you enjoyed it - you definitely have a point about how it shouldn't work. Hermione is the only character from the series (except her parents, but we don't really meet them, do we?), and I did worry that people wouldn't be interested because of that. It's ironic, because I don't read that many stories with O/Cs, but I thought I could justify Jamie.
I'm really glad you thought Hermione was characterised well. I think because so many of us love her so much, it puts a lot of pressure on us to write her properly. I felt that this story needed to be told, and I really enjoyed writing about children rather than (young) adults. It was refreshing, and felt a lot more special than anything else I've done. I was absolutely astounded to see it pop up on the Featured Stories list! I cannot believe how well it's been received!!
As to your last suggestion - I have been asked this before! I'm certainly thinking of it! I'd have to come up with a really good idea, and it would probably be a one-shot (although, this one was originally a one-shot...), but it would be really interesting to see them reunited! And I'd love to write them both again :)
Fluff is an integral part of our diets. Don't knock it!
Great first chapter. Ron was so in character with the rambling and saying the right things almost by accident. Can't wait for more!
Author's Response: I just meant that fluff can sometimes be pretty... awful to say the least. Don't worry, I already have the second submitted for validation :). And now we wait...
Great chapter! I loved the bit at the beginning with them in bed and the description of the sun was all very nicely done. As for Adrianne - argh! No! A threat to R/Hr perfection! Anyway, I'm intrigued by her and Ron's reaction. Personally I can't see him going into this level of doubt after only just meeting her. It seems a bit soon to start be scared for his marriage. George being all protective of Hermione was really in-character. This is shaping up to be a good story so far :)
Author's Response: First off, thanks for the review :)
And, yes I understand it might seem a little sudden but I think that the context (a year of pretty much nothing but work, more work, and then less Hermione) could be enough to make Ron doubtful when he's seemingly interested in this girl. Then again, I might just be flailing about on Word and the mod who let the chapter was a bit sleepy. Who knows?
Jeez, it's all going on here. It kind of feels like the whole world is against them. Paranoid and jealous Hermione was brilliant here - sometimes people forget that she can be just as over-dramatic as he can when she wants. Very enjoyable (in a 'I don't want to look until they are friends again' way') chapter. Can't wait to see what happens :)
Author's Response: Must... not... spoil... story (though you can probably tell where it's going :P ).
This chapter was great as well :) The way that even though times are hard and they both had a bit of a breakdown on their own, they still came back together at the end. Obviously things are going to get harder when the reality of Ron losing his job hits and I hope they are still about to be happy together.
Also, I really like your characterisation of Ron. Teenaged Ron wouldn't have thought twice about destroying his office but you've shown him matured. Plus, even though he still taking this out on himself, he isn't doing it to the levels we saw in the books, which also shows his maturity. Looking forward to the next chapter :)
Author's Response: Thanks for the read and the review. I'd love to answer the last sentence of the first paragraph, but then I'd be spoiling the ending. And where's the fun in that? Chapter 2 is currently on my 'to-do list' for plot revisions, so give it two weeks and we'll see how you like the plot progression!
Good start. It's nice seeing grown-up Ron and Hermione tackle grown-up problems. There's a clear breakdown in communication if they both think the other wants the house more and I imagine Ron's redundancy isn't going to help - I can't wait to see where this goes. Oh, and kudos on the research. I love when writers take the time to look into stuff like this, even though it is highly unlikely that anyone will actually call you on it.
Author's Response: I'm glad you picked up on the communication breakdown, because that information will certainly help with understanding some of the problems in later chapters. Hopefully you're looking forward to this as much as I am excited to finish writing it. Either way, thanks for the good words.
This was so good! Totally realistic that a couple's relationship would be strained in this situation, especially when both of them are as stubborn as these two can be. At times I wanted to strangle them both. Lack of sleep and stress can bring the worst out in people and you showed that really well. All the medical details were nice as well, both Muggle and magical. The mix between the two was really well done. I loved your characterisation of both Rose and Hugo Their fights were completely believable. The whole story was really emotional. If I wasn't worried about Hugo dying, I was terrified you were splitting Ron and Hermione up - both are unthinkable - and I'm so glad they could get through this. So yeah... well done, great fic :)
Author's Response: Honestly, I just wanna squee for the next two years or so, that you decided to check this out. :D This is honestly the only story on that list of 31 thingies I've churned out, that I am 100% proud of. (mostly because I didn't jump off a cliff in frustration when these two fought, hehe).
I think Ron and Hermione are a pain, all right. They are so stubborn. And yet, I'm so pleased that you think it's realistic, because, like I've mentioned in many of my responses below, I was worried they might be blown out of proportion. When I wrote this, I'd literally yell, "fight, b*tches!" and force arguments out of these too, ha (because the prompt is such) :p.
Well, my medical knowledge is the only thing I can afford to be confident about, hehe. So really glad that made sense. I do love mixing up Healing with Muggle medicine :p. Rose and Hugo were the cutest little characters to write. Hee. And I would NEVER split Ron and Hermione. Maybe if I could have Ron to myself, I would, but since that's impossible...
This was quite something to write. It's one of the hardest fics because it tired me out emotionally. I'm glad though, that you took time to read it, and review. :) Thank youuu! <333333333
Failure: fail·ure: a fracturing or giving way under stress, a falling short.
Hermione has faced a boggart before. The problem is, she didn't succeed.
This is Padfoot11333 of Hufflepuff writing for the Great Hall Mini-Challenge: The Boggart Challenge.
IT WON--alongside Gmariam's Afraid of the Dark. I am shocked.
Nominated for a 2013 Quicksilver Quill - Best Dark/Angst.
This is a really interesting look into Hermione's character. Beneath all the intelligence and confidence is this girl who is scared of letting people down, most of all herself and I think you captured it brilliantly. The parts with her as a younger child were particularly good as I don't think I've read a fic where Hermione is behind or distracted at school. It kind of gives a reason as to why she strives to be as perfect as possible later in life. And of course I enjoyed the tiny glimpse of her and Ron :)
This was great! Ron trying to do the best he could with the little he had was so sweet. The effect of the locket was very well written. I particularly liked that before he had it in Ron was doing all of this for Hermione's benefit, but afterwards wanted something in return. It really showed how aggressive the change was in a very subtle way. Nice nod to the films with the Reducio by the way :)
Author's Response: Okay, when I first followed the e-mail link to this review, I saw your name and got nervous-- mainly because you're the expert Ronmione author and I... well, we don't need to discuss that. :p So I hope you will understand that I squeed when I realised you'd read this (I also squeed when you followed me back on Tumblr, btw).
Now that I'm done jumping up and down, here's the rest of my response lol. I'm really, really, happy, flattered and ecstatic that you liked this! I think Ron does become sweet once-in-a-while... especially when it comes to Hermione. :) The effect of the locket was a tricky part, actually-- I wanted the vacillations to be abrupt and realistic, and at the same time, I didn't want to make Ron unbearable to the readers. So I'm really glad that you approve of it. :D
Ahh, I forgot that was movie canon. Hehehe. I remember Harry using the spell in the book too with the Snatcher's wand, but now that I look again, it was a spider... hehehe. :D Thank you so very much for the review! :)
