I love Bella. It's always fun to see the different ways people write her. Your stories were both very entertaining.

Summary: In the years following Voldemort's victory in the second war, Muggle-borns must become slaves and servants to pure-bloods in order to survive. Will she manage hold up when she finds herself struggling to withhold her sharp tongue, returning hatred, and...something else?

Okay, I’ll admit, this is a dire dark fic, but I’m laughing at it, right now. Seriously. Some things are just cute, no matter the circumstances. Draco and Hermione trying to figure things out is one of them. They’re just so stubborn and stupid that it’s adorable. And they tend to say really idiotic things that anyone could tell was a lie, anyone except the other one.

Sigh. Iris again. I really, really don’t like her place in this story. She overshadows everything in a very unpleasant way. I get that she’s Draco’s lost love and everything, but if the plan is for him to move on with Hermione, I don’t think everything that happens between them should go back to her. I don’t really believe Draco saved her because of Iris, but that could’ve been part of it. And it really takes away from anything Draco and Hermione could have.

Oh. Just read your author’s note. I see the issue of the rape has been an issue before. As I’ve said in the past, it is an issue for me, but you’re not the only person to try this. It can be done. Apparently, it can be done in a way that people find it believable and even romantic, according to people I’ve discussed this with. It all depends on what you do. I have to admit, I struggle with it and probably will right up until the end, but I can still see something growing between these two characters.

Can’t wait to see what you finally do with this. :)

I started reading this story a long, long time ago. Now that I’ve returned to the world of HP, I decided to look it up and finish it, but it’s been so long I had to start over. I remembered this was good, but I forgot how good. I’m already hooked for a second time.

I love the bleak future you portray in this story and you do it so well. There’s no reason to believe this couldn’t have happened if the war ended differently. It’s very sad, but very believable.

I was disappointed to find that Draco’s parents won’t be in this story though. I have to admit; I rather love them and find them especially fun to mess with in Dramione and Drarry stories. Lucius is dead, but what exactly happened to Narcissa. It said Draco was alone, so I’m led to believe she won’t be around.

Anyway, even without the Malfoys this story promises to be amazing. I’m really looking forward to finishing it this time. I’m really looking forward to seeing Draco’s character develop in this.

Kudos, for writing a story that manages to hook readers right from the beginning.

I remember the dress from the first time I read this fic. I also remember her ‘meeting’ with Draco. Although, there is one important detail I’ve forgotten, which has me dying to get to that part. I do hope it’s the next chapter.

Anyway, I must say, this story often causes my stomach to jump. That’s the highest of compliments from me. I really do love this.

Oh, this was so cute. Kathryn is adorable. I love her to death and I can tell that Hermione is already starting to feel the same way. The eat her alive line was perfect. Although, I can’t imagine that Hermione would appear especially scary…

That was a terrible place to end it. This was going to be my last chapter tonight, but now I have to read on.

Draco wants to chat? Well, he never wanted to do that with Hermione before. Maybe if we could just get him to stop calling her Mudblood and slave… I guess the part I’m thinking of is later in the story.

Tommy’s starting to remind me of his father. How cute…sorta. Cute to me, anyway.

Dressing one’s self is servant’s work? Oh dear. Pansy’s going to be rather pathetic in this, isn’t she? Her character varies so much from fic to fic. It’s interesting to see what everyone does with her. I’d like to see what Hermione would like to do to her right now…

Ooo, Pansy didn’t know who she was? I rather assumed Draco told her. Interesting. Do those two talk at all? Do we find out why they got married? They don’t really seem to like each other that much. Of course, Draco doesn’t seem to like anyone that much at this point.

Ooo and Pansy goes all weird about Draco working. Great. What could be possibly do that would offend Pansy? I thought she was unoffendable.

Yay, Hermione gets to sit at the table now. Wow, that seems like a strange thing to be happy about.

I guess you’re not getting one of those rambly reviews that I write while reading a chapter… Umm…enjoy. They’re kinda all over the place, but they give my very first reaction to things and based on what parts I comment on you can tell what really sucked me into the chapter that I just couldn’t wait to comment on.

I remembered Harry was dead in this, but I forgot about Ron. Hmmm…unknown huh? Personally, I’d like to see him show-up and cause some trouble. I like drama. Can’t help it. Although, I don’t really see that happening in your story. You’re not doing the dramatic thing, and I’m still completely in love with the story so kudos to you.

Could he be any more random? That line made me laugh. Still, I don’t think she should complain. Considering their interactions so far, listening to Draco complain about random things is a major improvement.

Awww…they’re starting to have the kind of conversations I always imagined them having, if they hadn’t been so busy hating each other. I know this is going to turn rather ugly. I remember that much. This isn’t my favorite version of Draco. I’m not a fan of him being violent, but I have to say you make him intriguing. I know I didn’t read far enough to find out exactly what’s going on in his little blonde head and I can’t believe I stopped without finding out.

Oh, I forgot this conversation. The whole Draco saying he’s not really a bad guy thing. To me, he’s not. In this story, I have my doubts. He hasn’t shown a whole lot of kindness to anyone at this point. He doesn’t even seem to care for his children. He owns and hits slaves. Apparently he used the Cruciatus Curse in the war. Not sure how he can claim innocence and think that Hermione hates him for no reason… His head must be a really interesting place. Well, now I know how this conversation turns nasty cause I did remember that much.

You have no rights in my home and I’ll kill you if you touch a tree…. Yep, Draco’s really doing a good job of backing up his good guy claim. Can’t wait to get the back story here. I’m sure it has something to do with Lucius and Narcissa, but just what happened to them, I’m not sure… I know I didn’t read that far the first time…

Interesting claim. People haven’t experienced what he has. I’ll buy that. I believe something horrible happened and Draco is in his own hell because of it, but I also think he’s being unbelievable self-centered about it. What kind of life does he think Hermione’s had over the last three years? He knows how he’s treated her and he knows she’s been raped. He must know her parents are dead if the entire Muggle population is dead. Wow, you’re making me genuinely annoyed with Draco and that doesn’t happen very often as I really love this character.

This really is a great story. You rock.

It’s funny parts of this chapter I remembered so clearly. I remembered that strange part at the beginning about some of the purebloods not actually bothering to lift food to their mouths and there were some lines I could almost remember word for word from Hermione’s talk with Pansy.

That being said, I forgot about the girl Draco was with. I remember an incident of some kind with Hermione in the future, but no other women… And I didn’t remember Blaise.

Blaise. You’re a/n asked how people felt about this. I was not pleased. I’ve been reading a lot of Drarry lately and Blaise often makes an appearance. I’m rather used to him being a good natured clown. I will really struggle to see him as the person who violently raped Hermione. And I suspect this will be a huge issue before the story is over. That is going to be so weird for me.

As for your comment about Hermione being OOC, I don’t think that at all. I can totally see that scene playing out as it did. I am a bit disappointed that she told Pansy instead of Draco, but it makes more sense really that she’d tell a woman.

Also I like this side of Pansy. It’s nice to see her acting as a human for a change.

Oh. The Zabini twin this is so juicy. Honestly, I don’t know how she and Draco stay in the same room together with the immense amount of awkwardness. It would be entertaining if they could have a real conversation. You know, one that Draco doesn’t cut short by announcing that he’s Hermione’s superior or some other such rubbish.

On another note, I know this story is rather old. I have no idea if you still read reviews, but I have one question that really irks me. Where is Narcissa in this? There seems to be no mention of her, at all. I didn’t check the date this story was written, but no matter where you are in canon her character is known, if not by name. We meet her in the early chapters of the first book at the robe store with Draco. My point being, she can’t have died when Draco was very young and therefore be more or less left out of the story. She really deserves a mention of some kind.

Oh. I think this is the part I keep referring to in my other reviews. Wish I remembered it well enough to know how this is going to turn out. Guess I’ll just have to deal with my stomach going all lurchy for a second time. Serves me right for not finishing this the first time.

Oh, he seems to be drunk. That’ll help.
Damn. I held on to a tiny shard of hope that this didn’t go all the way. That’s unfortunate. This is really one of my least favorite versions of Draco ever.
What really confuses me is this is a Dramione story. That’s where I found it. This means the two of them will be having some kind of romantic relationship before this ends and I really can’t see Draco redeeming himself enough for that to happen. I’m curious to see how you deal with that.

Anyway, this might’ve been where I stopped reading last time. I don’t remember anything after this. At least, not off hand. Guess I’ll find out.

Pretty sure if Ron was around, Draco would’ve been killed awhile back. Just saying.

Oh, no, I read this, too. I remember bits and pieces of this now. I also remember a conversation between Pansy and Hermione. Wonder how much of this I did read the first time…

How the hell did we get from he being all offended that she was raped to this? I could kind of follow the reasoning when it was happening and he appeared to be drunk to have much idea what he was doing, but now? What is going on his head? At one point, I expected to see a big confrontation between him and Blaise, but he can’t very well do that now without being the biggest hypocrite in the world. Actually, I doubt that would stop him. He already seems to be a pretty big hypocrite.

I know you have reasoning here. I just haven’t figured it out yet so I’m ranting my current frustrations. Please, don’t take offense. I’m very wrapped up in this, despite the fact that I have no idea how you plan to make it work in the end.

What had changed?

Why exactly did Draco take Hermione with him on this little adventure? Seems like he didn’t really need her presence for anything? It feels like a not-so-well-thought-out way to find out about her friend’s baby. If there’d been a juicy reason for Draco being there maybe…

I’m gonna say the woman is pretty obviously Iris. I don’t remember this part at all. If it turns out to be someone else, I’ll feel stupid, but I really don’t think that’s gonna happen. I’d say Draco has an unhealthy obsession with the dead girl. Yep, it was Iris. Yay for me.

I am really struggling with the emotions in this. They just don’t feel right to me. It has been twenty-four hours since Draco raped her and Hermione is crying over his lost love? And if Draco ever loved a woman as much as he seems to love Iris, I find it very hard to believe that he could become a rapist.

Okay, not my favorite chapter so far. I don’t love the Iris angle. She seems more like a creepy obsession than a lost love at this point. The shrine is a little much.

Be that as it may, I find myself addicted to this strange, dark story and will continue to read.

Date: 11/14/12 Title: Chapter 14: The Story of a Girl

Awhile back, I said something to effect that you’re story didn’t seem to be leading towards the dramatic. I take that back. Thomas being Blaise’s son is just the twisted sort of thing that sucks me. Although, I expect this story to have a happy ending, I think it might be more practical to have all your characters committed or in very intensive therapy… Just saying. You’re actually better at torturing characters than I am. Congrats.

I’m actually a little surprised Draco’s taken Thomas in. So far, he hasn’t shown a whole lot of humanity to anyone. I can’t see him claiming a child that isn’t his own. Granted, he’s not very lovely to Thomas, but he’s no better with his actual daughter so that doesn’t really count for anything. Is this some sign that he is a decent person? I’ve actually never read a fic before where Draco is so horrible. My fondness for him doesn’t generally allow for it.

Well, I’m glad Hermione understands cause I’m drawing a total blank. Why would Pansy feel the need to tell her that she’s caring for a child fathered by the first man who raped her? Why does she think Hermione’s in love with Draco? Why would she in love with Draco exactly?

Oh my God, I’m so falling in love with Pansy right now. I’m very close to crying for her. Which is not helping my opinion of Draco in this fic, one bit. I have no idea how you plan to redeem his character. Although, I did see a pretty horrid version of Lucius believably redeemed and you’re a very talented writer so I’ll trust you know what you’re doing.

I do still have to complain about Hermione’s current feelings toward Draco, though. This is still the day after he raped her. I can’t believe that she’d be questioning rather or not she loved him at this stage. It would take a lot of work for her to ever question that, in my opinion. When I read the rape chapter, you said it was important to the story, but at this point, I can only seeing it hindering the story. I guess we shall see if you can win me over.

Hermione looks like Iris? I’m not sure I like this turn of events. Wouldn’t that ultimately make anything Draco felt for her tainted by his first love?

Oh, I love Hermione. She’s not that bright when it comes to keeping her mouth shut, but that fits her perfectly. She’d also be no fun in this if she wasn’t so mouthy. If I remember right, Draco saves her before his buddies manage to rape her. Apparently, it’s only okay if does it…

Well, I was close. I did remember Draco coming the rescue, but his friends were being all tortuey instead of rapey. It’s hard to keep track with all these charming characters. Well, he managed an apology. That’s pretty impressive.

Actually, I rather loved the end of this chapter. I’m still struggling with the rape, but I can’t fully stop myself from supporting this pair so yeah… Although, I’m not sure showing a group of Voldy’s closest confidents that he cares if his Mudblood servant is tortured to death was such a great idea. That seems like the type of thing that could backfire…

A Match Made by Law by LariLee

Rated: Professors •
Summary: A slightly twisted, but highly realistic, possibly humorous, and very late, look at the Marriage Law Challenge. Mentions character deaths (but not HG or SS) and has some possible squickiness in passing that results in an "R" Rating. No house-elves were harmed in the writing of this ficlet, who I cannot say the same of Cornelius Fudge, Minister of Magic.
