Squidbait Returns by Grainne

Rated: Professors •
Summary: This is the tale of what happens when a war-weary Auror returns to Hogwarts only to find that one last battle awaits...in the form of Potions master Severus Snape. A romance with healthy doses of humor, angst, and Quidditch!

I'm throughly enjoying the story! Can't wait for the sparks to fly!

Author's Response: Thank you for having a read...and once again for leaving feedback. As it just so happens, you are in for some literal sparks, as well as metaphorical. Hope you enjoy!

Snape is certainly willing to go to great lengths to ensure Athene's continued presence in his (once?) tortured life! (Even civility toward Lupin.) Quite clever how Athene and Severus dealt with their meddling students. Snape was extremely harsh, but I have no love for that Slytherin or his pompous father. It will be interesting to see what brilliant scheme you come up with for dealing with Miles Fairven..... Wonderfully entertaining!

Author's Response: Thanks for this! Martin will now think twice (or thrice) before running to daddy with wild accusations. As for Miles Fairven...well, I leave the scheming to Snape.

YIKES! Poor Athene! I love her because she's like all of us, flawed! There were so many things I enjoyed in this chapter, so I'll point our a few of the more 'hidden' details: I loved the fact that her dress robes were blue and that they had passementerie, but that she had the sense to realize the tassel and fussiness had to go! When Dumbledore announced the band and one boy howled like a wolf - that cracked me up! There's always one of those in the crowd isn't there? I love Snape's contemplation of his communications with Athene - even his thoughts are snarky! The dialog was fantastic also! As you can probably tell, I'm just wild about this story! Can't wait for more!

Author's Response: Cheers, SeaIsleWitch! "Passementerie" has become a new favourite word of mine, thanks to you. Awful hard to slip into casual conversation though ;-D Little Eat Three must be forgiven his bad behaviour, as Martha Furry's Minions are a favourite band of his. Thank you again for your lovely comments!

Once again, I love your writing style and the character you've created! Teriffic chapter - can't wait to see what's next!

Author's Response: Thanks, SeaIsleWitch! Always nice to hear from you...whether here or over there ;)

Absolutely hilarious! Amazing choice of words! Snape being so upset about missing lunch and "the small pleasure it afforded him".....classic. I'm ready for more!

Author's Response: Cheers for this review! Glad you are enjoying Snape & Athene's adventures (both under and above the table).

I never knew Snape had it in him! Can't wait to see what's next!!!! Excellent job!

Author's Response: Thank you!

You continue to amaze me with your cleverness and creativity! You kept Snape in character by NOT having him say those three little words......so we have THAT to look forward to, hopefully!?! (Don't tell me!) I'm always so pleased to see a new chapter!

Author's Response: Thank you, SeaIsleWitch! Your words make me smile!

I'm giggling! I also liked the "Ginny's".

Very insightful! I love the character's inner thoughts. Sexy and funny too!

Author's Response: Thank you! Exactly the combination I was going for--if you can't laugh about sex, you'll probably have a miserable time of it, is what I say.

Oooooo! Wow! I can visualize every detail of your wonderful story. Amazing -well done! More please!

Author's Response: That is very good feedback to hear! Glad you are still enjoying--cheers!

"Here we go...all the nasty bits." Oh, so brilliant and humorous! How clever of Athene to insert that one (oh so telling!) memory - to see if she could really trust Snape and to give him a little humility I imagine....... Wonderful, Fabulous, Marvelous!

Author's Response: Thank you! Perhaps it was clever, or perhaps it was cruel, but she can't take it back now...the things that are "out in the open" (sorry!) will have to be dealt with.

I forgot to mention that I agree with you that the person's body remains in the room and just the mind enters the pensive.

Author's Response: Hurrah! That is one person to back me up should the Unlawful Fictional Representation of JKR's Magical Objects Squad come round.

.....this nod to his corporeal masculinity was a heady potion indeed..... A nod to your absolute brilliance, Grainne! Severus chose wisely in not reading Athene's top secret file, knowing his limitations. But he choked when faced with an ever greater dilemma and did not allow his heart to speak the truth. When Athene shows up to the Yule Ball in a stunning BROWN dress robes, adorned with appropriate passementerie of course, will he finally know what to do? (I think if brown works, she should go with it!)

Author's Response: Thank you! That was quite a big deal for Snape...if only Athene knew of his struggles, eh? Cheers for your vote of confidence in brown! Athene will perhaps be broadening her palette a bit, but we'll see...she's not much of a clothes-horse. :-D

Brilliant! The characters are so well defined, I especially love Snape being made at Dumbledore for "enjoying last night"! I'm a huge fan of your writing!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely reviews--I'm glad the characters are all pulling their weight! Have a wonderful day!

A brilliant tale from a truly gifted writer. Need I say more?

Author's Response: Nope--thank you, most sincerely, for this lovely comment. I really do appreciate people taking the time to read and review, and only hope that you continue to enjoy.

Lady Grainne, I have this vision of you sipping your Earl Grey tea in your well-appointed study. You look out over your rose garden at the gently cascading fountain. Then with a wicked smirk you proceed to lightly tap out Snape's romantic adventures......making us all roll on the floor laughing! Thanks for all the smiles and giggles!

Author's Response: You're more than welcome, SeaIsleWitch, and thank you for your reviews! This one made me laugh, as I have never owned (nor even been a partial owner of) a well-appointed study, a rose garden or a fountain of any sort! I do, however, have a fondness for Early Grey, and I will conjure up this vision of myself whenever I am in need of a boost. Cheers!

Author's Response: Erm...make that "Earl Grey." See what I get for typing before I've had any tea or coffee?

Yes, Kreacher did go to the Malfoys around Christmas when Sirius told him to "get out", but he came back after that. He was at Grimmauld Place to mislead Harry on that fateful night and also later when Dumbledore questioned him after Sirius' fall into the veil. (Notice I didn't say "death"- wishful thinking - I know what JKR has said on the subject.) So it leads me to believe that Kreacher is still at Grimmauld Place. I don't know if a house elf can choose a new master if theirs dies. It just doesn't say. But I recognize that it's your story and I very much believe in creative license! Anyway, your story is wonderful and I look forward to reading more! (Just get that house cleaned up! Ahchoo! Ha, ha!)

Author's Response: Oh yeah, I forgot about that. But still, since Kreacher did it once, he can leave the house again. That part isn't too important anyway. Thanx for paying such close attention and thanx for the compliments! :)

I think you captured poor Harry's mindset quite well. Your dust, mold, and creatures of Grimmauld Place are almost making me sneeze! Where did Kreacher go? I'll be interested to read what you reveal about Lily's diary. Great job!

Author's Response: Thank you very much, that's very flattering. Kreacher left in book five to the Malfoys after Sirius told him to leave. I'm guessing he won't be back since he has no master there anymore. Next chapter will have a diary entry, I promise. :)

I'm so happy to see that you updated this story! I wasn't disappointed when I read this amazing chapter! I couldn't believe Lockhart was the "older man". So funny and well written! You've put an original spin on things! Keep on writing! 10!

Author's Response: Yeah, the ages may be off but they are pretty darn close. Thanx for the review. :)
