I am a 29 year-old college professor at a little university in the South. This semester, however, in addition to my usual freshman English classes, I'm teaching two sections on the Harry Potter series as literature. Seriously! Unfortunately, I spend a lot of the the time I'm supposed to be grading papers reading fanfic instead, and I've been writing it for about five years now. In fact, my chaptered fic, "Of Christmas Past," was the first story I wrote and it's still not finished...I'll finish eventually though, I promise! It was on hiatus for a while, but I've started it up again, so it might actually be finished this year.

"Of Christmas Past" was also nominated for the Best Cannon Romance Quicksilver Quill Award for 2009! I'm so excited! I mean, there are over three thousand stories in Romance, and at least fifteen hundred of those are cannon! And I was nominated twice! I don't even mind if I don't win, just to be nominated was an honor. Anyway, good luck to everyone else who was nominated!

Speaking of "Of Christmas Past," I'm very very sorry that it's taking me so long to update it. I keep having problems, and then encountering massive writer's block. But I will finish it eventually, even if it takes me five years. Hopefully it won't, but I won't abandon the story.

If you want to read these in chronological order, they are as follows:

1. "Langlock" - set during James and Lily's time
2. "Chasing Away the Dark" - Ginny's POV during the middle of OotP
3. " Among the Ranks of Heroes" - set right after Sirius' death in OotP
4. "Comforter and Comforted" - set a few days after Sirius' death in OotP
5. "The Monster ON Harry's Chest" - set in the middle of HBP
6. "Twice Lost" - set near the end of HBP
7. "Of Christmas Past" - originally set directly after HBP, but became Alternate Universe after DH came out. So, it's set during DH, but isn't totally cannon, since a few major details changed in DH.
8. "The Queen of May" - technically set during DH, but is mostly a flashback to Snape's childhood.
9. "Falling into Darkness" - set during DH
10. "The Tree by the Lake" - technically set right after the Battle of Hogwarts in DH, but is mostly flashbacks.

Yay! I like Alphard! He's the best! You brought to live three characters that we barely know about, and I think that your portrayal fits with what we know about them. Well written and thoroughly enjoyable.

Draco's Trick-or-Treat by Schmerg_The_Impaler

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Three-year-old Draco goes trick-or-treating for the first time. His mother takes the opportunity to teach him some lessons and Malfoy family values that she believes will be important to her son later in life. This depiction of Draco is VASTLY different from the version of him that I write in "The Dark Lord's Blog."

Ridiculously short one-shot.

Aw, that was awful! At the end, I mean. The fic itself was very good. Well written too. I like the way you have Narcissa acting like a good mom with her cute little boy. Nice touch at the end!

Author's Response: Hee, I read the fist sentence, and went, and I quote, :(. But then, I read the third sentence and went :). Thanks, I\'m glad you liked it!

The Curtain Call by Amelia Bedelia

I'm about to gush all over you, so beware. OMG that was FANTASTIC! This is one of the best L/J stories I've read. The plot is unusual, but believable, and you hit the perfect mix of like and dislike with them. Their story's been written so many times that it's hard to get an original story line and still be believable, but you managed it! I can't WAIT for more! I hope you get the next chapter up before the queue is closed, but if not, I'll force myself to be patient and wait. Lovely lovely lovely!!!

Author's Response: Gushing is allowed! :D But I\'m so glad you like it, because it is a bit different than others, isn\'t it? And I didn\'t quite get the chapter in before the queue closed... but it got updated just after it opened! :) Thank you so much for the review! Yours truly, Amelia Bedelia

But not what we may become by Zara Ravenwood

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Summary: What if Helga was Lazy? Salazar was naive? What if Rowena hated the idea of an education? And Godric was far from bold? The Founders we know are the heroes of their age - full of passionate notions and deeply held values that would shape the Wizarding world for a millennia, but they weren't born with them. Some times the things we feel strongest about as adults are the things we hate as children. A coming of age story.

This is a very good start; I really like how acurate you're being in portraying life in that time period and place. I also like that you've made Helga one of the Norse. It's an interesting twist. Can't wait to read more!

Beautiful Disaster by hermione777

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Ginny's already heartbroken over Harry. Walking in on Ron and Hermione kissing only makes it worse. Ginny ponders how her relationship with Harry began, where it's gone, and where, if anywhere, it's headed.

"It was just so unfair. Hermione would be with Ron forever, and they would have each other during this war, and she would be alone, and sending Harry off to his death…"

A songfic to "Beautiful Disaster" by Kelly Clarkson.

!!!!!THE REVIEWS ARE IN!!!!!
"AH! This was AMAZING, I wish it could go on! Why do songs have to be so short?"

Very sweet, and I really enjoyed James' letter. It seemed like something he'd write, especially when he mentions Lily's wand down his throat. Lovely ending too. All in all, a great job!

Author's Response: Thank you so much!

Quite good, and I'm not even into the whole Hermione/Draco thing. I quite enjoyed it!

Author's Response: You know what, I\'ve never been big on the whole Hermione/Draco thing either. I\'m *hardcore* R/Hr, but they just seemed the perfect couple for this challenge! I\'m really glad that you liked it, too! Thanks for reviewing!! :D

An excellent little chrismas story. And well written too! I think you caught the essences of each character very well.

Author's Response: Thanks! Some of those characters are tricky; we know so little about them. And yet, all office Christmas parties have an underlying sameness, eh?

Just Penny by Cinderella Angelina

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Penelope Clearwater has a schoolgirl crush on Charlie Weasley, but he doesn't even notice. Will his little brother be able to make her forget him, or will she continue to hold a flame for the dragon keeper?
Reviewer: Chaser921 Signed
Date: 02/10/07 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Lovely! I KNEW Penelope couldn't have stayed with Percy! He's such a git, even before he turned against his family. And she always seemed like such a nice girl. I really like your personifications of her and of Charlie. From the snippets we've gotten about them in the books, it seems like they probably would have behaved that way. Well, maybe Penelope would have been a bit more like Hermione...but that's just personal opionion. I do like the way you've written her. And your writing is very nice and well done. It was a pleasure to read.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your review! And for thinking it was a good story, that too. :)

One Hour by SimplyMe

Rated: 6th-7th Years •

Wow. Fantastic, and clever too. I didn't even suspect it was Polyjuice until the very end. Very well written. I enjoyed it a lot, and look forward to reading more of your stuff!

Author's Response: I\'m so glad you enjoyed it! As I wrote to another reviewer, it wasn\'t easy to keep the truth hidden about Hermione/Pansy but I love a challenge! Thanks for your review! And if you\'re planning to read more, be warned: my other stories are quite different!

Living for the Dead by Biscuits

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Death is always harder for the living. The dead are gone, they don't have to cope with the aftermath, the gravestone, the funeral, the empty place where friends or family once were. Those that are left behind have to live out the rest of their lives without them, no longer able to share everyday experiences with them.

Losing one friend is hard enough, but three?

(Character Death: The actual deaths happened before the fic starts, but it's discussed all the way through.)

Date: 06/30/07 Title: Chapter 1: Living for the Dead

This was an fantastically dark story. I can feel the raw emotion from Remus, and his thoughts flow very naturally.

I love the way you open the story. The image of the many gravestones, and then the musings on the lives that they represent sets the mood and the tone incredibly well. I particularly like the way you have lives reduced to words on stone; that is particularly poignant.

The bit at the end, when Remus resolves to live for his friends, is particularly powerful when you pair it with the paragraph above. When you note how Remus was suicidal, and now, right when he'd be most expected to kill himself, he decides to live...wow. That packs a punch, and makes his resolve and bravery that much more strong.

A wonderful fic that I greatly enjoyed reading!

Author's Response: Wow, thanks for the great review! I\'m glad you enjoyed reading it.

Very cute, I think you did a good job. I like the way Hermione stays true to character in being annoyed and thinking Krum isn't that good looking, but you still manage to get her to like him! It's great. Excellent job.
