No problem with oriental I have heard Asians called much worse by cops here in the US
Story sounds like it is off to a good start. That was a nasty first shift for that poor rookie
keep up the good work

Disclaimer: I don't tend to take offense at usages that some folks find "racist" unless they seem to have malicious intent behind them. That said, I don't find the us of the term "Oriental" in this chapter offensive (or racist). Not sure ho much that is worth. :-}

Anyway... Oh, goody! Another MIT story! :-)

Excellent start!

[I suppose it's a Good Thing that the Sergeant didn't acquire the nickname "Twiggy". :-}]

Author's Response: Thanks.
I discovered long ago that the relative strength of some rude words varies between the UK and the USA (and Australia, I suspect). I believe that in the USA the term Asian is used instead, but in the UK Asian is applied to people from the Indian subcontinent.
Anyway, chapter 3 is finally up.

Why is there only one chapter?? I need to know what happens next...

As always, a fascinating story. What year is it set? Obviously MIT has existed for a while, since Bobbie's married and Stan doesn't seem to be a trainee any more.

I must admit, I thought the narrator was male right up until Bobbie shouted her name. Looking back, the clue was probably that the American tourists asked Pinner for directions, but I didn't see it at the time.

I'm looking forward to more.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review.
We're now at chapter 3 (of 6) It's taken me some time because real life continues to interfere with my writing. The latest chapter tells you the "when" of this story.
The clue is that Tracey, as a female officer is wearing a bowler, not the traditional British "Bobbie's hat" which is called a custodian helmet.
