Story Notes:

This poem was inspired by a prompt in Herbology. The prompt was Flanders and Swann who wrote many comical songs. Anyhoo, I particularly liked Madeira m'dear but decided to give it a twist - Potter style.

Thank you, VV, for the prompt. Many thanks to Bine (luinrina) for beta'ing this for me. The world is JK Rowling's, I've just put a spin on it.

When Karis was just seventeen years of age,
She left Hogwarts for a life on the stage.
She imagined her life would be filled with fame,
Then found it quite hard to make her name.

The odd line here, a chorus kick there:
Poor Karis she struggled to get anywhere.
Then one night, as she danced, she caught the attention
Of a distinguished critic whose name we should mention.

He wrote for the Prophet. “Please call me Chester,”
He said in her dressing room as his hand caressed her.
For Chester loved ladies, especially if young,
And told them he’d help them get on the first rung.

“Come back to my rooms, Karis, queen of my heart,
I’ll give your career a delicious jump-start.
All it takes is one drink and perhaps a small kiss,
And then the great parts you will never miss,

For I’m well connected in all the right places.
I can make you a star; make you one of the faces
That’s talked about all over London’s West End;
But first you must promise that you’ll be my friend.”

Karis shuddered a touch but accepted his hand.
She knew what he wanted, she did understand
That Chester would ply her with drink and fine words,
Then cast her aside saying she was absurd.

But Karis had plans, so she drank all his mead,
Then allowed him to bed her, a victory indeed.
But Chester, the lecher, who was so debonair,
Missed the connivance of this girl, oh, so rare!

For the boy she had loved once had not called again.
He’d treated her pleadings with utter disdain.
Now the babe in her tummy needed a Pa.
Chester fitted the bill and could make her a star.

“It only takes one night to create a new life,
And for that, Chester, darling, you must make me your wife.”
Chester, entranced by this innocent young thing
Did not see the web she was starting to spin.

For mead is sweet tasting and will cover the taste
Of a thousand slow poisons. She proceeded post-haste.
A new career beckons now she’s unleashed this genie;
It starts with the murder of Chester Zabini!
