soraya786.livejournal.com

Hi there! I’m Soraya. I’m seventeen years old and am a proud Muslim British Bangladeshi. I live in East London and have loved reading and writing from a young age. I’m rather obsessed with Harry Potter (aren’t we all?), tea (not a surprise considering I’m a Brit) and good grammar. Recently, I've also got into the Supernatural fandom. After watching the first episode, I had already fallen head over heels in love with Sam Winchester, so it's no surprise that I am now a huge SPN fangirl as well as a Potterhead.

My writing has changed quite a bit over the years, and I think you'll probably notice that, the further down my author page you go, the more the quality seems to drop :P I started posting stories on here at the age of fourteen, and at nearly eighteen, I can see how much my writing has improved since those Dark Ages. So, for that reason, I would advise you stick to the more recent stuff, if you choose to read anything of mine.

My Stories

Just so you know, these are posted firstly according to what kind of pairing, if any, is in the story, and then in chronological order in accordance to my own canon, not necessarily the order in which they were posted.

Canon Pairings

Checkmate (James/Lily)

My first chaptered fic. It’s terribly written, but I still have a place in my heart for it because of how much fun it was to write. This story has now been deleted on MNFF, but if you really, really want to read it, you can still find it on FF.net and HPFF. (I advise you don't, though :P)

Second Childishness and Mere Oblivion (James/Lily)

Written for Round One (Major Characters) of Madam Pomfrey’s Character Clinic Triathlon, this one-shot is about James and Lily’s relationship getting rockier and rockier after they left Hogwarts, especially when Lily is faced with the trials of being a wife and motherhood. A little smutty.

My Love is Always Here (James/Lily)

This was a belated birthday present for the wonderful Gina/Gmariam, aka the queen of James/Lily. This is mostly about Lily dealing with becoming a mother for the first time and the problems (as well as the joys) that come with that.

There's an Answer (Remus/Tonks)

Written for Sophie/The owl for SPEW Summer Swap IV. Tonks is sent on an interesting baby Auror assignment to do with werewolves. Remus and a dangerous Muggle are thrown into the mix, with interesting results.

Left Behind (Remus/Tonks)

An expanded version of one of my LoveNotes, written for SPEW. It's a missing moment set between OOTP and HBP, where in my head canon Remus and Tonks have been together, in secret, for a few weeks already and Remus is then told to go on his werewolf mission. Slightly smutty.

One and Only (Remus/Tonks)

Written for the lovely Alex/Ithinkrabis2people in the Ravenclaw Christmas Drabble Exchange. This is a missing moment set just after Tonks’s outburst to Remus in the hospital wing at the end of HBP.

Out of My Life (Harry/Ginny)

My only AU (kind of). I tweaked a small part of canon in this -- basically, Harry actually said goodbye to Ginny properly when he broke up with her. Very angsty, and this is only up for sentimental reasons, as I wrote it during The Dark Ages (aka when I was fourteen).

A Different Kind of Magic (Harry/Ginny)

Written for the You’re Having My Baby challenge at SIYE. Ginny finds out she’s pregnant, but Harry receives the news before her and therefore has to tell his wife. This was my first ever story at MNFF. It was written when I was thirteen, and it definitely shows.

A Different Kind of Magic 2: Parenthood (Harry/Ginny)

A sequel, obviously, to A Different Kind of Magic. Ginny goes into labour, and both Harry and Ginny realise what it means to be parents. Again, this was written from Back in the Days.

Same-Sex Pairings

The Caustic Ticking of the Clock (Rowena/Helga)

Written for the Great Hall Cotillion, this story is my only Founders story so far, and it’s about Rowena and Helga’s secret relationship. I am proud of this one, which doesn’t usually happen :)

Catching Fire (James/Sirius)

This was written for SPEW 007. My prompt was “Embers”, and it’s set just after Remus’s second transformation with the Marauders. James is badly injured, and he and Sirius realise, inadvertently, that they might just have feelings for each other. I like the pairing but still think the story needs work. One day I will go back and edit.

Flicker and Fail (Katie/Leanne)

This was written forSecret SPEW, and my recipient was the absolutely fabulous Alex/welshdevondragon. It’s my take on Leanne and Katie’s relationship from way before they were even at Hogwarts as well as what eventually happens to Katie in HBP, when she was cursed.

Next Generation

Skinny Love (Louis/Lily)

Written for the 2013 Great Hall Cotillion. Set during Teddy and Victoire's wedding, Louis helps Lily come to terms with her bulimia. This one was pretty difficult to write.

Blood and Roses (Scorpius/Rose, Scorpius/Dominique, Dominique/OC)

Written for the Great Hall Mysterious Maychallenge, this was my first Next Generation fic about Scorpius, mostly, and the trials he faces after his daughter is murdered.

Broken Glass (Louis/Lily)

This is the story of when Loulily really began. After the deaths of his immediate family, Louis is finding it hard to cope, even six months later. Lily somehow helps. It’s a little smutty. I’m proud of this one, too :)

The Highway of Regret (Scorpius/Lily, Scorpius/Rose, Louis/Lily)

Also written for the Great Hall Cotillion. It’s my one and only Scily. This is all about secret relationships and mistakes people make. Lily’s angry at Louis, and Scorpius has just broken up with Rose; when Lily gets drunk in the pub, things... happen. :P

I Will Lay Down My Heart (Albus/Rose, Scorpius/Rose)

Written for Round Two (Minor Characters) of Madam Pomfrey’s Character Clinic Triathlon. Albus has been in love with Rose for years, but what happened with them when they were younger has put a dent in their relationship. It doesn’t help that Rose is actually in love with Scorpius, either. This is smutty too.

One More Night (Albus/Rose, Rose/Scorpius)

Companion piece to I Will Lay Down My Heart. This goes into more detail about Rose and Albus's changing relationship as well as the aftermath of the events in said companion story. Probably the smuttiest thing on my page. :D Written for the Great Hall Cotillion 2013.

Glass (Louis/Lily)

This was written for the Great Hall-iday challenge for the Operation: Mistletoe prompt, and this was where my love for Loulily began.

Poetry

Excruciatingly Painful

This is about how five men in Potterverse dealt with remorse in different ways.

Always

This poem is about how Remus feels about Sirius (not slashy, btw).

Regret

Written for the Magic in Music challenge over inPoetry, Anyone? This was set to the track “Obliviate” in DH1 and is about Hermione modifying her parents’ memories.

Farewell

Written for the Goodbyechallenge in Poetry, Anyone? This was about saying goodbye, and how difficult it could be.

After All This Time

Written for the Deathly Hallows challenge inPoetry, Anyone?. I ship unrequited Snape/Lily, and this is probably the only time Snape will be on my author page, lol.

Hush, Dominique

Written for the MC Kreacher challenge inPoetry, Anyone? This was written from the POV of Bill Weasley after his wife’s death.

Miscellaneous

Bruises

Written for the Great Bannermakers’ Hallchallenge. The banner I picked had Merope Gaunt on it, and it’s probably my darkest story; it’s definitely the only one to have a dubious consent warning. It’s about, as you might guess, the abuse Merope suffered from her father and brother.

In Care (Marlene/OC)

Marlene McKinnon, as a care kid, eventually falls in love with another care kid, Jamal Olawumi. But he's a Muggle, and keeping her world secret proves difficult. This is definitely a story I would like to revisit and tidy up.

Just Across the Bar (Sirius/Rosmerta)

Sirius is just about of age, but obviously Rosmerta has misgivings about having feelings for Sirius, who is still a student. Written for the 2013 Great Hall Cotillion and also smutty.

Butterbeer Bottles

Written for SPEW 007. My prompt was “Juggling”, and it’s just a silly piece of dialogue-only banter between Remus and Sirius. Sirius realises Remus likes Tonks, and he tries to persuade Remus to act on his feelings.

Hanging by a Thread (Katie/Oliver)

Written for the lovely Jess/ToBeOrNotToBeAGryffindor for Secret SPEW VII. Katie is grieving and drowning her sorrows in alcohol and Oliver is trying his best to save Muggles, while trying also to bury feelings for Katie that he thought he had long since forgotten about. There is also, surprise surprise, some smut in this.

And that’s it! Along with being a moderator, I’m also a member of SPEWand SBBC. I hope to see you around on the forums; feel free to contact me via PM or review if you have any questions or comments about my stories!

Hmmm. I thought it was good but it was over so quickly. It was written very well, as per usual. I liked the whole theme of jealousy throughout the story. I think that if you expand it a wee bit more it would've been better. It's like, you just jump from being at the Yule Ball to two years later, so it's a bit sudden, to say the least. It would be great if you could continue this.

~Soraya~

Author's Response: Wow, you are just Johnny-on-the-spot, aren't you?

"As per usual," you flatter me! Haha. I agree completely, it is very short. Perhaps in the future I will expand it. It is basically the composite of two drabbles squashed together, so that is why it is so short, since a drabble must be under 500 words.

Thank you for your review! Your reviews are always helpful. =)

Boy Oh Boy by Sagen

Andromeda Black has always wondered why she wasn't like the other Black girls. Oh, she tried to be: she never spoke to Muggleborns and looked down on those from the other houses with disdain. However, one day she meets a boy unlike any of those she's known before. Someone who can look past her heritage and see her for who she really is. What a great Ted/Andromeda story! I liked the POV of it and the way you did Andromeda's thoughts, it reminds me of HBP when Harry was having a similar battle about Ginny. Great job!

~Soraya~

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it! The brain/heart thing is new to me, but it was fun to write! I never noticed it before, but it is just like in the sixth book!

Natalie, why the hell haven't I reviewed this already???? I think I've reread it for the fourth time today, and I was just scrolling through the reviews and saw I didn't review it. *headdesk* :S

I just loved this. It was bloody amazing and I really, really hope you write a sequel. The characterisation was spot on and I really liked Lakshmi as well :)

Sequel, please!! Pretty, pretty, pretty please?

I loved it!!! My favourites were Rose and Hermione, definitely. I really like these seven people fics. They're so good and they really explore the characters so well. And I love how you wrap it up, if you get what I'm saying. Like...you don't leave any loose ends or anything. The way you start it and the way you end it - it's really good. And, as usual, this was beautifully written, particularly Angelina's one.

~Soraya~

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you liked Rose's and Hermione's -- Rose's poured out of me, but I actually had a lot of trouble with Hermione's! And I'm glad you like the way it all comes together and ends. :)

Our Done Deal by Aria_Aurora1

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: He withdrew his arms from around her, and reached into the back pocket of his shorts. As he bent down to kiss her again, he took hold of her hand, and placed inside it a square box. “Happy birthday.”

This is the tale of a birthday… A seventeenth birthday, no less. It tells of a present given to a redheaded teenager by the love of her life, a gift that became the best present she would ever receive; better than all past and all future presents. It tells of a present she would never, ever forget.

That was a fabulous poem, really well written and I like the rhyming (which I know is really hard from past experience). I can't guess what the "one word" is though. What is it?

~Soraya~

Author's Response: Thank you! Well, the word in the beginning is 'Sectumsempra', but at the end turns to 'stay'... hence "One Word" is a misnonmer. I'm really glad you liked it! ~Thestral

This was a really nice piece: short, fluffy and sweet. I didn't think that you'd do R/Hr but I'm really glad you did as it turned out very good. It was quite in character for Ron to say "Love you" and for Hermione not to say anything back. You did a great job with one of my favourite ships.

~Soraya~

Author's Response:

Hello again!

I tend to stick to different ships, as Ron/Hermione has so many spectacular pieces with which I couldn't possibly compete, but it's a ship I've always believed in. Sure, I think they have a dysfunctional relationship, but they really do love one another. I'm glad you liked it and thought it was in-character. Lovely to hear from you as usual.

Stay With Me by Sagen

Aw. I mean, aw! That was so cute! I liked the bit when Sirius asked Andromeda about if she's pregnant. That really made me LOL. And I really feel for people like her who have their loved ones - her dad, in this case - switching on her. That's really sad. Anyway, lovely story. Keep it up!

~Soraya~

Author's Response: I think this is my favourite so far out of the series. The part with Sirius was may favourite too. I was writing it and then I read it out loud and was like, 'Oh man! It sounds like she's pregnant!' So I decied to add that in. Thanks!

I Wouldn't Change A Thing by The_Real_Hermione

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Brothers were strange creatures.

For as long as Lily can remember, there has been a gap between her and James which she never felt with Albus. When Lily is kidnapped, will James prove her wrong?

A story about the discovery of what family really means.
Reviewer: xxbabewithbrainsxx Signed
Date: 05/30/11 Title: Chapter 3: I'll Find You

Katrina, I really liked this! I've personally made it my mission to read everything of yours, and I think I only have a few to go. There's one about Snape, one about Remus, and one about the Creeveys. Oh, and I think I still need to read Neville's one too. But I'm getting there, really.

Anyway, this isn't going to be a very long review, but I just wanted to say what a nice change it made for there not to be any major cliches in this story. Next Gen gets so many, and they all seem to read the same -- the non MNFF ones, that is. This was a great, fresh take on what Next Gen could've been. That said, if you did have any cliches, there's no doubt that you could pull it off.

There were a few typos, but it's going to take forever to point them out and correct them. And since they're not major, it's not a huge deal, really, especially because they in no way detract me from the story. It was gripping, from the moment Lily gets ambushed.

What I liked the most was that it was a bit like OOTP, but it wasn't a carbon copy of it either. And the best part was definitely the ending. I have two brothers and right now, I feel like they are very, very strange creatures. In fact, strange doesn't even begin to describe them, tbh.

Lastly, this line was my favourite part:

She knew it was clichéd – but then clichés only existed because they were universal experiences, common to the whole of humanity. Although, to be honest, she didn’t really care whether being clichéd was good or bad or just plain silly.

It's just so true. Ta for writing, as always, and thanks for reviewing my stories too. The next chapter of Checkmate, if you're wondering, has been in the queue for more than 8 days now, so I'm hoping it'll be validated soon. If not by tomorrow, I'll be PM'ing Fresca. Anyway, enough of my rambling. Have a good bank holiday!

~Soraya~

Author's Response: I'm so flattered that you actually want to read all my stories!! (I'd be careful about the Snape one though... it's really not very good). Anyway.

I'm glad you thought this wasn't cliched - I find a lot of Next Gen stories are romance (not that there's anything wrong with that) and I wanted to write something a bit different. I just sort of wrote Harry's kids the way they turned out, I didn't really think about it that much except that I didn't want any of them to be copies of their parents.

Yes, it was a bit like OotP - on one hand, you could say that's my lack of creativity, but I also thought giving the next generation an "adventure" like this would give them more of a connection to their parents - plus, they got the Thestrals idea from Neville anyway. Also, I didn't think Lestrange and Avery would be the most intelligent or creative people and so they picked the Department of Mysteries but didn't plan well enough how to get in there so resorted to the courtroom.

I think it's easy for love to be understated in families, because it is assumed, so it's easy for misunderstandings to occur. And yes, I know what you mean about brothers lol.

I'm glad you liked the line about cliches - it's something I believe and I think sometimes cliches are good and can be used effectively (although not overused).

I have in fact just read the next chapter of Checkmate - a review is coming up soon.

Thanks again for reading/reviewing all my stories!

~Katrina

Barely There by ToBeOrNotToBeAGryffindor

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Dean Thomas felt like his soul had been ripped out when he survived the Battle of Hogwarts and his best friend did not. Grief-stricken, his brain simply couldn't wrap around what meant anything to him anymore, but the unlikeliest of heroines pulled him from the brink and maybe saved herself along the way.
Reviewer: xxbabewithbrainsxx Signed

I agree with the end notes. I could never call Dean/Hestia bizarre but it's certainly one that I've never heard of before, that's for sure! I liked the setting at the beginning, how it was during the war and then it moved forwards, and the fact that Dean thought at first that they had nothing in common but actually they had loads. I have to say, though, how old is the Hestia in your head? 25? The same age as Natalie/hestiajones?

Oh, last thing, Hestia's comment about Dean's jawline made me smile. I've got a thing for guys' jaws too...

~Soraya~

Author's Response:

Hi Soraya!

I suppose this pairing popped into my head when I was trying to think of Natalie's favourite characters. I remembered that she loved Dean, and I was then on a quest to write him with someone else besides the normal ones. This is just how it came out.

Yes, in this fic, I had her around 25, but not so much because I wanted her to be of similar age as Natalie (which she is), but more because I didn't want her to seem like a cougar, lol. And the jaw thing is an artist thing. Artists are sucker for beautiful bone structure.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story (at least I think you did). Thanks for the review.

Collateral Damage by ToBeOrNotToBeAGryffindor

Rated: 6th-7th Years •

In disguise and out of his mind, Albus embarked on an impossible task, but when things started turning for the worse, why were his only thoughts about the one person he would hurt along the way?

Jessss! I read this in one sitting yesterday, and I only didn't leave a review because it was getting late and needed to sleep :)

Woooow. I am a Scorose shipper all the way, but even I couldn't deny that this was an amazing fic, Alpius/Scalbus and all.

Seriously, I was initially thrown off by your warning at the beginning about the themes in the story that might make me uncomfortable, but I was really glad I read it. You've made me fall in love with Scorpius and this is defintiely the most unique story I've ever read. It was like a novel with its plot twists and the mystery behind who the mole in the Ministry was. Oh, and I loved the inclusion of the Knights of Walpurgis -- that was JKR's original name for Death Eaters, right?

The Polyjuice Potion tablet, Albus's assignment, the Macmillan family, all the little details you put in showed that you worked hard on this and that it really paid off, because to date, this is one of my favourite fics by you.

This definitely isn't a SPEW review (but you already knew that :P) although this fic definitely doesn't have enough of them. Reviews, I mean. But yes. Excellent job. :)

~Soraya~

Author's Response:

Sorry about the reply delay. Just got archive access back on my main account.

This story is certifiably weird, no doubt about it. But sometimes, I like a protagonist who happens to NOT be good at stuff and is rather bumbling but not ridiculous. Well, he IS ridiculous as a female, but I think you get what I mean, lol.

Yes, the Knights are of JKR's creation, and I fully believe that it would've been impossible to eliminate their influence completely. But Albus was definitely ill-equipped to handle this assignment, which was, as you see, by design. A perfect plot... or at least until Granddad Greengrass got in the way, hehe.

I may have angsted over this fic a bit, but the response it's got (mostly 'this is bats*** but glorious') has made it all worth it. I'm glad you liked it, and thanks for reading!

Hmmm. This was written quite well. I'm not sure the shouting works. Hermione was rather OOC--just because he was disorganised she would leave him? That's not a very believable scenario to be perfectly honest, so I don't know. But you certainly left me wanting more, so I think you should work on this, make it longer--not necessarily by adding another chapter--and think of a more plausible reason for Hermione breaking up with him.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the review! It was perfectly honest and I have heard some similar things from other people as well. I'm still considering adding more and I might, due to your comment, edit what I have a little bit. :D

The words rang clearly, loudly in his mind.

I think of her as a sister.

But did he?

Happy Birthday, Julia! You know you're one of the only two people on earth I'd do this for. :D

Thank you, Carole, for looking it over. And I am so not J.K.Rowling.

Hmm...interesting. I'm glad to see that this wasn't one of those stories when wrinkled Harry starts snogging equally wrinkled Hermione totally out of the blue or anything. Before HBP, I was always a Harmony shipper, and it was only after DH that I realised that they just weren't meant to be. But even in DH the movie, there were so many Harmony moments, it was unbelievable! And they even bigged it up a bit more than what it was like in the book, too. Plus, when you see Harry and Hermione snogging their faces off in front of Ron, well...let's face it, I reckon David Yates is a secret Harmony shipper too. Anyway, your story was really good, even though most of it was mainly musing, and what could've happened. I appreciate the fact that you killed Ginny and Ron off first, so I don't feel as guilty about Harry's thoughts. And, I suppose I'm making excuses for him about the fact that he was drunk at the time too. Anyway, I'll stop rambling now. Fab story, keep it up!!

Author's Response: Ahhh! Fandom will always accuse Steve Kloves and David Yates of being blatant Harmony shippers. Lol.

“. I appreciate the fact that you killed Ginny and Ron off first, so I don't feel as guilty about Harry's thoughts. And, I suppose I'm making excuses for him about the fact that he was drunk at the time too. “

This made me laugh. :D Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Mercy by hogwartsbookworm

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: If you knew that the consequence of doing the right thing might be torture, or even death, would you still do it?

This story was inspired by something Neville said in passing. “…And then Michael Corner went and got caught releasing a first year they’d [the Carrows] chained up, and they tortured him pretty badly…”

This is the untold tale of an unsung hero: Michael Corner.

That was really good, especially for your first Dark/Angsty. I really liked Michael's inner monologue, about him helping people. It sheds a better light on him than I can think of - you know, the fact that he was Ginny's ex - and I think you portrayed his character very well. Well done!

~Soraya~

Author's Response: Thank you! I figured that Michael must be a better person than what Harry's thoughts show us in the series, if he risked torture for a first year. I'm glad you enjoyed my first D/A.

I don't think the potion worked, to be honest; I reckon it was a bit like Ron in HBP, how he thought he was going to be lucky and he acted it too. Fab story, I loved it!!

~Soraya~

Author's Response: Thanks for the review, Soraya! I'm so glad you liked the story. And I like your interpretation of how the potion figured in too! Thanks so much for reading this and leaving a review - I was very unsure about this story for a long time and appreciate your lovely comments very much!! ~Gina :)
