Oh, this was beautiful. A beautiful ending to a beautiful story. It's open-ended, but you've left it off optimistically because neither Lily nor Scorpius are giving up and I'm hoping that by 'spin-offs' you mean wedding stories ;). I'm sad this is over - it will be difficult not to have another chapter to look forward to - but I couldn't have imagined a better ending.
Thank you so much for writing this story. The updates came relatively quickly so it was never like I got a chance to 'forget' how much I loved this story you crafted. You are a brilliant beyond brilliant author and I love this fic (like Lavender, blue) more than many RL stories I've read.
Congratulations on finishing this, and on writing a story that was so wonderful it surpassed the already sky-high expectations I had for it.
xx Ariana
PS,
Loved the nod to Scugo by the way ;)
Author's Response: Nod to Scugo ... Merlin forfend! heh heh - you should have seen the little present I left my beta in the uncut version. Thank you so much for reviewing, Ariana, and for all your reviews, support and general all round love for this story. It quite possessed me at times, but kept me going when I was blocked on everything else. More weddings .... hmmmmmmmmm ..... Maybe. hee hee hee Thanks again ~Carole~
Oh Draco.
I love the way you've written him. So snarky, so high and mighty, but so in love with Astoria. And yay for family peace again! I was wondering how that was going to resolve and I'm happy with the way it did.
The Quidditch games were so lovely to read :). I love watching Harry and Ron and Scorpius interact…and I'm glad there was some of Ron in this chapter too. The entire story's really about him, obviously, so why he hasn't had a main part until now is beyond me… ;)
I DON'T WANT THE END! Okay, I want another chapter. But this is going to be just as sad as saying goodbye to Lavender, Blue. Make it a looooooong chapter. 40k words. That's an order.
xx Ariana
Author's Response: Draco amuses me. Well, my Draco does. Book Draco is a git. He does love Astoria, but deserves to go through the mill a bit for being so horrible to Scorpius. Yes, I agree about Ron, that was a bad bad error on my part. I will definitely devote the last chapter only to him. Thank youuuuuu ~Carole~
*sniff*
It's all right. The rest of the chapter makes up for that small detail of Teddy possibly getting married at some time or another. A part-veela can't stop me! :)
Lovely chapter! I was so, so angry with stupid Narcissa and Draco keeping Scorpius locked up for that bit, but at least Astoria redeemed herself in the end by helping him escape. I also liked the part with Hermione - what a snarky lady when it comes to Draco, ha ha.
Three more… I can't imagine what it will be like to not get any more High updates :(.
xx Ariana Lupin
Author's Response: I liked Hermione in that. I think she's generally a fair person in the books, but she's love the chance to annoy Draco. Thank you for the review, and sorry about Teddy. ~Carole~
To Harry Potter, his life's destiny was to save the world, become an Auror, and be with Ginny Weasley forever. He did all right on the first. The second wasn't turning out to be all he thought it would, and the third... well, that's a story for a different day.Â
Where does that leave the Chosen One so soon after his twenty-fourth birthday? And will a past acquaintance show him what or even who he wanted for his future?
Jess….
I already told you this on LJ but I love this story, so so much. In terms of rare-pairs I've never really thought about Harry being with anyone but Hermione - which really isn't a rare-pair.
But you've converted me :). I am a definite fan of Harry/Katie now, especially the cynical, sarcastic Katie here. I feel like Harry needs someone a lot more hard-edged and a lot less red-headed than Ginny, what with everything he's gone through. And Katie fits the bill perfectly.
I'm enjoying re-reading this so much. The writing here is beautiful, and I love that they are brought together by flying - because that's always been the part of the Wizarding World that fascinated me the most.
And I'm so glad I know what happens already otherwise I would be pulling out my hair waiting for the update :D.
xx Ariana
PS,
Did I mention that I'm in love with this title?
Author's Response:
I'm so, so glad you liked this story. It took me about halfway through it to sit and think: was I writing something you'd like? I just assumed that, since we have similar tastes, that you would enjoy something like this, but uncertainty hit me like a ton of bricks halfway through. Thank Merlin that worked out.
Oddly enough, Harry/Katie is one of the ships I always loved for some bizarre reason. I wrote them a bit in VoJP (don't read it; it's pants) as a sideplot sort of thing, but I always wondered what would've happened if they'd ended up together.
And fyi, this was the fifth incarnation of a title for this story. I didn't do well in that regard, so I gravitated toward soemthing obvious. XD
*hugs*
~Jess
Carole this is so tragic and gorgeous at the same time. There are so many twists - I was so surprised when Justin came up to Theo instead of Susan, maybe just because that's my default pairing whenever I see Theo in a story :).
And then the way the beginning ties into the of his mother's death…wow wow wow, I loved that writing. I hope we find out who that horrible man is in the next chapter (plus I hope we see Justin and Theo's relationship….although I'm thinking it might just stay platonic because Justin's a father. Or maybe I was reading into it too much thinking it was anything more than just friendship :).
Amazing story!
xx Ariana
Author's Response: HA! Secret for you. I deliberately had Susan in that scene because I wanted to trip people up. As you say, it's become an almost default pairing - like canon - and that makes me want to tweak it. heh heh.
Thank you very much for the review, Ariana, the next chapter should be up pretty soon. You might not qite get everything you want from it, though - Sorry. ~Carole~
Poor Lavender! Although I do love the ending, because I've read High and because everything is good in Teddy/Victoire world :). Oh, and wasn't Mezvinsky (I'm sure I butchered the spelling) the guy who married Bill Clinton's daughter? I thought it was a weird name like that; I am obsessed with the Clintons and the Kennedys :).
Carole, thank you so, so much for this gorgeous story! I loved reading it, and it starred my two favorite pairings. Yay!
xx Ariana
Author's Response: YAY! You got the reference. Yes, it's Chelsea Clinton the new President of USA - ha ha. Jess thought you'd get it. So glad you liked the story; it set a few things straight in my mind in case I want to write more spin offs. Thanks for the review ~Carole~
CROLL YOU ARE THE BEST!
This is amazing :) . Victoire with no Teddy AND Lavender/Blaise! I was so excited when the summary mentioned Lavender, blue - yay!
You are so, so lovely, and you have made my day amazing!
AAAAND I can't wait for the next chapter!!
xx Ariana
Author's Response: There might be some Teddy in the next chapter ... you never know. Hee hee. Glad you enjoyed this. It was fun to write once I'd got the idea. Hope you had a great birthday. ~Carole~
The Battle of Hogwarts brought out the best in some and the worst in others. And not everyone emerged knowing into which group they had fallen. Susan Bones was one of these individuals. But when she came face to face with one of the war's unforseen victims, she began to wonder whether she didn't truly belong in the latter category.
Then again, not all was what it seemed — not when it came to Theodore Nott.

This is a birthday token for the delightful and talented Ariana/lucca4, who doesn't seem to realise quite how talented and jealousy-inducing she is. I hope her day has been half as wonderful as she is. :)
So after getting through the shit that was Thursday and Friday, I found that I had not one but TWO new chapters to read! And it made me so happy :).
I love this so much! My favorite part here was Susan humming and Theo telling her that he wasn't used to hearing music anymore. Just so sad, and so perfect :).
Off to read number three.
xx Ariana
Author's Response:
*stabs school*
I'm really glad you like this story so far. It was very wtf at first while I was reading it, and in the beginning, I changed my mind for the plot like...eight times. Hopefully, though, at this point in the story, you have no idea what I'm planning. It shall be a surprise, hehe.
STUPID ERNIE! He annoys me so much.
Yay for this chapter! Even though you ended it on a cliffhanger -_- . I laughed while reading your Slughorn, he was perfect - saying all the wrong things and making people uncomfortable.
I've told my parents I will be "writing an essay" for most of today, which really means me sitting on the computer refreshing the Most Recent's list until this pops up again :D.
xx Ariana
Author's Response:
Aww, don't hate on Ernie. He just fought a battle against a bunch of crazy blood purists, so he's worried about Theo hurting Susan after all they've been through. He's a good friend (and a consummate Puff). You may or may not giggle when you find out what Theo did to him, lol.
It'll be a few hours before the next chapter is up, so you could totally get some essay in. If the chapter isn't up before I leave for work, it'll be up when I get home. Ta, and *squish*.
~Jess
I love Theo. Just sayin' :D.
This chapter was amazing! I love what he did to Ernie, ha ha. Although I do feel worse for Ernie now. I'm not good at seeing other people's perspectives at things so I sort of forgot he had just fought a battle :).
I wonder what Susan had in her trunk that she didn't want him seeing? And I wonder when Theo's going to find out about his father…or if he already knows…O.O
I can't wait for the next chapter! Very literally :).
xx Ariana
Author's Response:
Sigh...yeah. Ernie was just trying to be a good mate, but he was, naturally, a bit on edge. He doesn't see Susan for days, and then she shows up with a Slytherin, which is very o.O.
The wheels are spinning. Or something cryptic like that. Heart!
~Jess
JESS!!! :O :O :O
I JUST SAW THIS AND IT MADE ME SO HAPPY! It's like my birthday is on a continuous loop, it feels like it never ended :).
I love this story so far! It brings together everything that I absolutely love about your writing *cough*darkandtwistedromance*cough* and it's just gorgeous!
I love how Susan murdered Nott Sr. That sounds awful but it's the main reason that I love your Susan/Theo more than any other . I can't wait until Theo finds out in the next chapter, or until anything happens between them in the next chapter… They are both so deliciously messed up but in such different ways and I love it! :)
Thank you so, so so much!
xx Ariana
Author's Response:
Hehe, if I may be honest for a second, this was the original plot I'd planned for your Summer Swap story, but it went horribly awry in that it would've never been done on time and probably STILL wouldn't have been done yet. However, now that I've got my writing legs back under me a bit, this one should be done and posted within a week. I'm glad you like it, but since you have the same penchant for screwed up characters as I do, it seemed a natural step. :)
Anyway, new installment coming soon. Love you, and happy birthday again!
~Jess
LOL!!! :D :D :D :D
Oh my god, Natalie that was hilarious! I'm sorry I can't leave you a proper review, my SPEW skills seem to have flown out the window, but I wanted to comment on how absolutely amazing this was. It's hilarious, but it's clever, too, because it fits so perfectly with the song. I can just see Hestia Jones singing this to Vernon… and the look I imagine on his face is priceless!
Brilliant job with this, it definitely brightened my Monday :).
xx Ariana
Author's Response: Slap me, Ariana, for being so slack with my responses. :/ I am super glad you liked this. I had a lot of fun writing it. Maybe I should do pro-rapping.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!
Ummm….trying to think of coherent things to say. I love Maudie, she's such a forgetful, all-over-the-place kind of woman. I like her with Dominique, which really surprised me because I thought I would never be happy unless Lakshmi was with Dominique. But people grow and change, I guess.
Anyway, I will be glued to my computer until chapter two arrives. Between this and Ebb and Flow, I think I'll be occupied for the rest of the week :).
xx Ariana
Author's Response: YAY Someone mentions Maudie! :D Yeah, I love her, too. She's very different from Lakshmi, and I really will finish that one-shot where they meet. Soon. I am glad you like both story. :) Need to make a few changes here and there, but at least I've completed the main draft lol. Thanks for the review.
Oh Natalie.
Oh Natalie.
OH NATALIE!
I heart you for writing this - this epic story of gorgeousness. I love Maudie to death, and I'm so glad she didn't leave Dominique at the end (you had me very, very worried there). And in a way I'm kind of glad for Dominique and Lakshmi's kiss…it was a small reminder of what they once had, and how it no longer really fit into their respective futures. I never thought you could create a character I would want for Dom more than Lakshmi, but you did. This story was absolutely fabulous to read and I'm so sad it's over. Please, please, please write more about them in the future…or maybe just feature them in another jaw-droppingly beautiful story of yours?
xx Ariana
Author's Response: I am SO glad you and Carole liked the ending, because I was not happy with my first draft and I've been sitting on it far too long. And YAY once again for Maudie love. :) I will definitely be writing that one-shot where the two of them get together, and they will show up in my next gen chaptered, when I do pick it up again lol. Thank you for reading and reviewing! <3
What!? Not okay. You can't leave me on that kind of a cliffhanger!
And whyyy did you have to make Maudie so likable? I was so, so sure that I was rooting for Lakshmi and Dominique to get back together and now here I am hoping that Maudie will come home soon because her character makes me laugh. And I was actually proud of Dominique for not kissing Lakshmi. WHAT.
This chapter was so, so lovely and I have so many questions. Mostly I just want to find out about what Lakshmi's surprise is, and how Dominique is getting promoted without being snatched up by the Squad.
So I will be waiting and holding my breath until the next chapter is posted so hopefully it shows up quickly ;).
xx Ariana, who is already turning blue.
Author's Response: WHAT! :D I couldn't not make Maudie likeable. I intend to write Dominique and Maudie getting together some day. (I actually have 500 words or so written.) I am glad the story is managing to engage you. Ch 3 will be up within a week. I thought I'd finished it, but a few parts need to be recycled D: Thank you, thank you, thank you for the review! <3
THE TWIST! I should have known :).
Oh my god, Carole, this was absofrigginlutely fabulous. It has a dreamier, more lyrical feel than your other stories and it works beautifully. I loved Dominique/James and I wanted to hug James at the end, but I really couldn't be dissatisfied with the ending because Dominique is with the woman she truly loves.
I have no words for this story. It is one of the most amazing things I have ever read.
xx Ariana
Author's Response: Mwahahahahahahahhaha - yes, the twist, the twist. Thank you so much for such a fabulous review. I have loved and hated writing this story because I usually go for a neat endings and this is still pretty ragged. Reading your review made me feel all warm inside and validated, so thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuu, again. ~Carole~
For Carole:
Ooh, I like this! I've never thought about Dominique/James before, but you've pulled it off beautifully and very realistically. I feel so sad for James at the end…I'm hoping maybe things turn out better for him in chapter two (which I am really looking forward to by the way).
For Natalie: Happy birthday! You are so sweet and amazing and a wonderful friend. Plus you write so incredibly well it makes me want to smack my head against a brick wall ;). You are such a love, and I hope your day was perfect.
Author's Response: I have scars lacerating my forehead from where I have bashed it against the wall after reading Natalie's work (and yours). Thank you for the review, Ariana. This is High compliant, by the way (I think everything is with me now). I hope you enjoy the next chapter which will go up very sooon. ~Carole~
I am loving this, Croll! It's interesting how you've set up a House rivalry apart from Gryffindor vs Slytherin, which seems to be the main one. I like it, and how Lisa automatically doesn't want to patrol with Susan because of it.
And the pairing is love :). I know I've written Susan with Theo but your way seems just as true - although I wonder how you thought of it?
You've got two lovely, amazing edgy chaptered romance fics going on right now and I can't wait for either of these beauties to be updated.
xx Ariana
Author's Response: Hmm, how did I think of it? Okay, this is a cheat but I asked Kara for the name of a girl and then Natalie and paired them up - Ta da! Seriously though, I had an idea for a story based on Halloween apple-bobbing which you'll see in chapter 2, but wasn't sure which girls I wanted to use. The more I thought about Lisa and Susan, the more I became interested in the Puff/Claw dynamic especially under Snape's regime. This story is practically finished, but I might eventually write something else about them compliant with Lavender, blue. Thank you very much for reviewing. My other chaptered should be updated very soon so hope you enjoy it. ~Carole~
Aw yay! They got their happy ending :). The more I read of this story, the more I love the pairing. I really hope you do write more - a Lavender, blue compliant one.
I love how Padma was so astute in realizing that Susan and Lisa were together. And it made me smile that she was so accepting, especially when she said that line about Mandy. I also love, love, love seeing the teachers start to rebel against Snape and the regime, trying to protect their students. It's one of my favorite parts about this time.
Lovely story, Carole! I've thoroughly enjoyed this and it's going in my favorites now.
xx Ariana
Author's Response: Thank you so much, Ariana. I had some fun writing this but also some teeth grinding moments where I wasn't sure things worked. I'm pleased you enjoyed it. ~Carole~
I.
Love.
This.
Oh my god, the way you write the heat between them is just so perfect. I liked the little apple-bobbing scene in the Greenhouse. The awkwardness but rightness of it all felt so true. I wanted to hug Susan when she told Lisa about Megan's reaction.
And then the Venomous Tentacula, and the escaping from the Carrows…ooh I was worried for them! You are the Missing Moments Queen - I love how seamlessly Lisa and Susan's budding romance fits in to such a dark time for Hogwarts.
Gorgeous story, Carole, and I can't wait for chapter 3!
xx Ariana
Author's Response: Thank you so much for the review. I'm glad you liked the heat between them. I was hoping it showed that they were still fumbling (more Lisa than Susan), but there is this longing they have for each other. Hee, I like missing moments, and might carry this on as a parallel to Lavender, blue, but I must update other things too. *puts bunny back in cage* There's one more chapter to this story but maybe some more later ...
Thanks again ~Carole~
