I am an 18 year old archaeology and anthropology atudent who doesn't like tea, therefore completely destroying my country's stereotype.

Bicie Serca

This is my first fanfiction which focuses on the life of Sofia Goldhirsch, from her life in the Krakow ghetto, to Hogwarts and beyond. I appreciate it dangerously toes the line of cliche, but I am doing my very best to ensure that it is at least readable.

Inspiration for this fiction includes:

-The historical context of the Shoah and the Blitz as told by relatives and Kindertransport "children".
-The Kindertransport, an amazing scheme which resulted in 10,000 European children, mostly Jewish, being given refuge in England.
-Kindertransport, a play by Diane Samuels.
-The Ancyent Marinere, The Dungeon, The Convict, plus other poems from the Lyrical Ballad's collection by Coleridge and Wordsworth.
-Children of Men, the film based on a novel which I have deen ignorant enough not to have read yet.
-East is East, a play by (someone who's name escapes me). This may surprise people as it's a comical play about an English-Muslim family in the 1980s, but the culture clash and use of tension has been really useful for me.
-A personal photograph found in my grandmother's study which shows a sixteen year old girl having her Star of David cut off by a Quaker woman as she arrived on the shores of England.

I strongly reccomend all the literary and film works listed above.

In my 18 years of being British, I have never heard of a pub that does takeaway or serves haggis and tripe. But otheriwse sweet.

The Best Team in East Anglia by minnabird

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: Every year, the best amateur Quidditch team in Suffolk faces off against the best team in Norfolk in the East Anglia Summer Tournament. Isobel Jones, one of exactly seven young witches and wizards in the tiny town of Eleigh St. Mary in Suffolk, decides that not only is she going to form a team for the tournament, her team is going to win it.

The problem? Well, let's see. One of her seven possible players is an utter klutz at Quidditch. Two others are often too busy with their school Quidditch teams to practice hard during the school year. And then there's just the little matter of getting to the finals, facing up against a team that's won two years running and isn't afraid to play dirty, and getting her team through the game unscathed...

"We'll win," she says. "We're going to prove that we’re the best team in East Anglia.”

People scoff. But her team believes - and that's all that really matters.

Hi Minna :) First off, I'd like to say that I am from East Anglia, so it was nice to see some familiar places and it made me ridiculously excited, so thank you for picking such an obscure part of England :)
Secondly, I think it must be very hard to write a good Quidditch-centred fanfic without becoming dull or recycling old cliched, but you have managed it with such skill, and you've created a really entertaining piece. I salute you :D
It's so nice to see more of the wizarding world than Hogwarts/The Order, without it being overly confusing. Just perfect :)

Author's Response: Hey, there! =) And wow, did not expect to have so many people familiar with the area reading this - hope I'm not failing at my research! Eeep. Haha - I am familiar with that ridiculous excitement though. ;)

And I am sooo anxious about it becoming dull/me running out of ideas in future so let's not jinx it, lol. Glad you are entertained though! And yes - I lovelove nonstandard bits of the wizarding world, so this is something that will just keep on happening with my fics, lol. It *is* good to hear it's not confusing.

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing - I hope you keep reading. =)

Minna

Out of the Darkness by phoenix_song197

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: The battle is over, but Remus and Tonks are trapped in the darkness. Trapped between life and death. Trapped among their memories. Will they find the strength to wake up and find each other or will they be trapped in the darkness forever?

Hmm, watch your Americanisms ("dumb") and your paragraphs are pretty chunky, but you have a really lovely interpretation of Remus's character and a sweet, in-character idea of him and Tonks meeting. :)

Author's Response: Thank you! I definitely have room for improvement, and I'll watch for those things in the future. Thank you so much for your thoughts and suggestions!

Forces of Nature by Equinox Chick

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: In the midst of battle, and after that kiss, Ron knew he loved Hermione. He'd never said the words, but she knew.

Didn't she?

This story was inspired by a song called Forces of Nature by the Backstreet Boys. This pairing and that group are the favourites of Amanda (ahattab) who is celebrating her birthday today.

Disclaimer: I am not JK Rowling and have never even seen a backstreet boy.

Thank you, Natalie, (hestiajones) for the quick beta job.

Ah, so perfect. It's refreshing to read Ron in character yet still romantic - I always find that authors seem to make the decision to write him as one or the other. I would have liked the fic to be a little longer, but it is still rather wonderful and rather subtle to read as a romance. Beautiful. :)

Author's Response: Thank you. If you like Ron/Hermione fics with great characterisation, might I recommend Weasley Mom who writes Ron brilliantly? Glad you liked this. Yes, it was a bit shorter than my usual things but it was a gift for someone and I needed to get it finished - ha ha. Thank you again ~Carole~

Lockhart, Sprout and Two Smoking Goblets by Equinox Chick, Gmariam

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Humiliated in front of the entire school by the purple-faced Pomona Sprout, Gilderoy Lockhart plots a grand revenge. His weapon of choice - a goblet full to the brim with steaming cocoa.

But has he underestimated the redoubtable Head of Hufflepuff House?

This is Gmariam of Ravenclaw and Equinox Chick of Hufflepuff writing for the 2011 Aprils Fools' Day Challenge in the Great Hall, Prompt 2 - Don't You Dare Prank Me!.

Disclaimer: We are not JK Rowling. If we had been, then there'd be far more stories about the Marauders in print.

This story is dedicated to our flist - especially the lovely Natalie (hestiajones). Enjoy!

Thanks for the on-the-hoof beta job, hestiajones.

Giddling madly, our story has been nominated for a 2011 QSQ for 'Best Darn Story Ever On The Archives' - okay, I mean Best HumoUr.

bwhahaha this is so devilishly creative and hilarious XD I absolutely love it, you had Lockhart's arrogance so perfect, and the mental images that went through my head will keep me chuckling all day.
The ending is the funniest paragraph I've ever read. “I don’t think anyone will disturb us for at least an hour … Dick.”
Pure, naughty genius.

Author's Response: Thank you. Gina (Gmariam) and I had a lot of fun planning this over several AIM chats. ~Carole~
