Author's Response: The idea that the Veil came before anything else was an old one I had for a fic about the Department of Mysteries. That fic came to nothing (it had no plot) but I loved the idea and it transferred neatly here.

Author's Response: Writing a really smart person is tricky, but mainly I tried to do it with language, to give her an eloquent and sophisticated way of speaking. I hope that comes off. Also, I tried to keep giving her puzzles to solve, so she gets a chance to show her skills.

Author's Response: Thank you for missing it! While I was away from MNFF and struggling to write original fiction and fight writer's block I'd write the occasional fanfic chapter, so that's why I could update so quickly before. Now I'm back to juggling figuring out what I want to write for my next attempt at an original novel and updating this story. I'll probably only update once a week, but I'll keep updating regularly until it's finished. :)

Smalley sounds so much like Lockhart! And his book, almost makes wonder if somehow Lockhart WAS Smalley.
Author's Response: Have you ever seen Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog? Smalley started sounding like Captain Hammer/Nathan Fillion in my head, singing about his hair blowing in the breeze and that he might even date the same girl twice because he heard it's better the second time and "they say you get to do the weird stuff." LOL. He will mention Lockhart in the next chapter (bit of jealousy there). I think there's something about being the centre of attention teaching that appeals to men like Smalley and Lockhart. :D
