Staring Back by Equinox Chick

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: Charlie Weasley and Penelope Clearwater were a mismatch made under Romanian skies one starlit night. They'd made no promises, except one: to see if they could make it work.

But what neither of them had counted on were ghosts from the past threatening their future before it had started.

This follow up to Mirrors is for Julia (the opaleye) because not only did she suggest the original pairing, but it is her birthday (well it was, I'm a tad late)

I'm not JK Rowling. She has more money, grace and style.

Author's Response: Thank you, thank you, thank you :D Yeah, I'm hoping to have some fun with this. ~Carole~

Awww, that's so cute :) Marvellous fic - wonderful characterisations, great little memories that fit in with everything we know and lovely relationship between Harry and Sirius. Love it!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

The Hogwarts Storm by Oregonian

Rated: 1st-2nd Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: This story reprises an actual event that occurred early in the morning of 15 January 1968. I have taken the liberty of moving the date to 25 December 1967, to coincide with Arthur Weasley's last Christmas at Hogwarts, a date that he will never forget.

This is Oregonian of Slytherin, writing for the 2013 Yuletide Challenge, using the prompt 'Holiday Hell'.

Very nice christmas tale involving a character who I haven't read much of :)

Author's Response: Thank you for reading and reviewing my story. I too have not read much about Arthur, especially his younger years, but we know so much about his character and personality that it should not be difficult to write about him. This storm was also called the Glasgow Storm because Glasgow was the city the most damaged by it. Rural areas such as Hogsmeade and Hogwarts would not have received much press.

New Year's Eve (or: Amour Tension) by Northumbrian

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: New Year's Eve, (or Hogmanay if you prefer). What sort of imbecile thinks it's a good idea to give a married man with two kids, and a very pregnant wife, a love potion? It should be a time to celebrate. For "the best dad in the world" and his wife, it's time for chocolate biscuits, cocktails, an Auror in a leopard print dress, Dung and Coco.

Great little fic - love the second title by the way :)

Author's Response: Thanks, I'm never sure about using a punning title. Glad you liked it. -N-

Lily and Alice by Wenlock

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Alice defied the odds when she became the first woman Auror in the 20th century.

Lily was up against even worse when she, a Muggle-born, became a rising star in potions, the most tradition-centric field of magic.

They each sacrificed to prove themselves.
They sacrificed even more for their sons.

This is the bittersweet tale of a war that brought two remarkable women together and made them the best of friends, before it ripped their families apart.

This is the Last Time by Equinox Chick

Rated: 1st-2nd Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: It is the Anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts and the magical world celebrates. But for George there's only sadness as he recalls everything he's lost.

Disclaimer: I am not JK Rowling.

Thank you, Julia (the opaleye) for the challenge in Poetry, Anyone? that led to me writing this poem.

Beautiful - I loved the language used, the layout of the poem and the repitition of 'last time'.

Author's Response: Thank you very much. I had a bit of a struggle sorting out the layout, so I'm happy it's appreciated. :D ~Carole

Unexploded Bombs by Oregonian

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Dudley Dursley has just experienced the death of his elderly father Vernon from heart disease, when he receives a letter from beyond the grave, a letter that puts a new light on things. An unsuspected time bomb involving his cousin Harry has been ticking for nineteen years.

This is Vicki of Slytherin House, writing for the Second Annual Terrible Two-Shot Challenge.
A Thank You to Elaine/Islastorm of Gryffindor for looking over the manuscript for me.

This story was nominated for a 2015 Quicksilver Quill Award, Best Post-Hogwarts.

I love how you've written Dudley and how his character has developed from the books. Really great fic and I can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response: Thank you for the review, Georgie! Dudley and Harry are 37 years old in this story, and my vision is that Dudley has learned a lot since we last saw him in Deathly Hallows. I'm glad you liked it.

Helpless by Oregonian

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: With Lord Voldemort firmly established at Malfoy Manor, and terror pervading everything, Narcissa feels trapped, with no way out of the nightmare. She cannot foresee the turn that fate will take.

Written for the 2014 Independent Study Poetry Class.

Have been taking English literature at college this past 6 months, and have really grown to appreciate poetry. Beautiful imagery and fantastic form.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for leaving a review, Georgie. To be sure, you need a pause after "toxin", and "-lefi-" in the word "maleficent" must be spoken rapidly, two little syllables on one beat, in order to keep the meter, but I like to vary the cadence occasionally, to prevent a sing-song effect, in poems of strict meter. I chose the venomous tentaculum for my magical-plant reference because I was familiar with it from my story Greenhouse Seven. I'm glad you enjoyed this poem.

Forgive Us Our Trespasses by Oregonian

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: During the witch hunts of of medieval and Renaissance times, an accused witch finds refuge at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, too late to save her life, but perhaps, in the end, not too late at all.

This story was awarded Second Place in the 2015 Ghost Writers Challenge in The Great Hall.

That was a beautiful piece of writing. Did you do much research for it?

Author's Response: Hi, Georgie,

Thank you so much for saying that this story was beautiful. I’m glad that you enjoyed it. Yes, I did do a fair amount of research for it and probably should have done more, because the bit about the accuser getting to claim a bit of the convicted person’s estate is something I just made up, and I’m not sure it was ever true. Still, the sources say that the main motivation for false accusations during this time seems to have been economic.

It was fun to read about all the different medicinal plants, even in a place like Scotland, which is not noted for lush and varied growth. And I got some good inspiration from a Public Broadcasting documentary about ghosts in England, the haunted buildings, and the people (seemingly ordinary, sane people) who encounter the ghosts.
