Hollow Soldiers by ToBeOrNotToBeAGryffindor

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary:
"This is how the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper."

-- T.S. Eliot,  The Hollow Men

Michael Corner was just one of many who fought for everything he believed in at the Battle of Hogwarts. He went in with all the right intentions and on the side of good, but the enemy he never thought he'd have to face proved to be fiercer than any curse that he would encounter during the fight.

And that enemy was himself.

This story was nominated for a 2011 Quicksilver Quill Award: Best Dark/Angst Story.

Wow, this is really awesome. There aren't many fics that focus on the non-core characters and their loss in the battle. Beautifully written!

Author's Response:

I'm glad you enjoyed the story. The other story of mine that follows this story canon, Azure in the Snow, shows how Michael's life was affected by these events. Incidentally, that one was written first, and many people wondered how Michael could be that screwed up, where even Harry came out of the battle in better shape.

Thanks for reading. :)

The Last Enemy That Shall Be Defeated Is Death by simply_enamored

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: What if, on that fateful October night, it was not Lily's sacrifice that saved Harry, but James' sacrifice that saved them both? What if Lily is left to pick up the broken pieces of her life after its been shattered into a million pieces? Who would be there to rescue her? Who would get her through the night? This is a story of loss, of pain, of hopelessness, and ultimately, of healing.

After much deliberation and input from all you guys who have read thus far, I have officially decided to continue this story. It was initially supposed to be a one-shot, but I've decided I already have too much of my heart invested in it to quit now. :) Second chapter in progress. Thanks, all! Advice and reviews are still very welcome!

'i' before 'e' by Equinox Chick

Rated: 1st-2nd Years • Feature
Summary: Ms A Cadwallader wishes to improve herself and apply for a better job. Unfortunately, despite her impeccable qualifications, she is thwarted by a certain Junior Under Secretary for the Minister of Magic, who has let it be known that basic spelling errors can never be over looked.

This story, written in the style of a series of letters, first appeared in The Battle of the Genres over at the SBBC forum.

I am not JK Rowling. She would probably have been more amusing.

This story is for Minna because it was her birthday and she likes this pairing.

Thank you Natalie for liking the drabble and encouraging me to expand.

Quite funny. I really enjoyed the story.. not quite a side of Percy you expect.

Author's Response: I like to think he might have loosened up a little after the war, but not when it comes to spelling and grammar! Thanks for the review ~Carole~

We Happy Few by Alice Mac

Rated: 6th-7th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: "Neither can live while the other survives."

She often thought on that - ever since she heard it in Harry's hushed tones. Maybe before that even. Not in the exact sense, of course - she would not claim the powers of a Seer (Merlin forbid). But something close to it, maybe - a strange, half-formed thought; ethereal and not quite tangible.

She sometimes tried to think about what it meant - she spent many hours puzzling over it, in fact. She always was one to think of all the possible outcomes. And think she did. And imagined and theorised and wondered and dreamt.

Never once did she imagine this.
