Hogwarts Houses Divided by Inverarity

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary:

Teddy Lupin's first year at Hogwarts. Canon-compliant. Nominated for a 2008 QSQ for best Post-Hogwarts story.

The war is over, and all is well, they say, but the wounds remain unhealed. Bitterness divides the Houses of Hogwarts. Can the first children born since the war's end begin a new era, or will the enmities of their parents be their permanent legacy?

Bravo! What a touching ending to the chapter and a thoughtful closing to such an excellent story. Is this our last scene or is there one more chapter to your wonderful tale of Teddy's first year?

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you liked the end of this chapter -- it's one of my favorite scenes as well. We're almost done, but there are actually two chapters left. (I couldn't quite tie up all the loose ends in one.)

Breathtaking. A narrow apparation escape, a desperate disguise almost unmasked, someone in imminent danger of beheading, and Hogwarts still on the verge of destruction! How much more suspense can we take?

Well worth the wait and well deserving of its QSQ nomination. 'Houses Divided' has my vote... um, if this were a democracy I mean.

But Esau Have I Hated... by OliveOil_Med

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: All here life, Petunia listened to people say how special her little sister, Lily, was. And getting that letter and running off to that school only made things worse. So through the years, she sat on the sidelines and watched Lily become more and more amazing.

But what about her? A story through Petunia Evans' eyes on the subjects of Lily, Hogwarts, and a war most people don't even know is happening.

Another fine chapter of a unique story. Your characterization of Petunia, showing the seeds of who she grew into as an adult, is excellent. I don't think I've seen another story that captures so well the feelings of the one left out of the magical world. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response: Wow, I feel honored! Thanks for your kind words. By the way, when do you think you'll be Sorted on the beta boards. I may be partial, but I'm hoping you'll be a Ravenclaw.

Alexandra Quick and the Thorn Circle by Inverarity

Rated: 1st-2nd Years • Past Featured Story
Summary:

Winner of the 2008 Quick Silver Quills Award for Best General Story.

The first book in the Alexandra Quick series.

The war against Voldemort never reached America, but all is not well there. When 11-year-old Alexandra Quick learns she is a witch, she is plunged into a world of prejudices, intrigue, and danger. Who wants Alexandra dead, and why?

This story is canon-compliant with the Harry Potter universe, but the characters and settings are all original. I've put a lot of work into envisioning a world as detailed as the original series; I hope you enjoy it.

An excellent ending that leaves us all begging for more. Governor-General Hucksteen seems like a powerful baddie. One gets the suspicion that the dark wizards are already in charge and the Thorn Circle may be the freedom fighters. I look forward to the continuation.

Another excellent chapter. Each time Alexandra discovers more information we're left with more questions. But my biggest one is this: How come this wonderful work isn't a featured story?

Take My Hand by helz_belz

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: True love does not end at death do us part, but lasts forever. Harry and Ginny have had a lifetime together, but what happens beyond then? Follow their last day together on earth.

Take my hand and lead me to salvation. Take my love, for love is everlasting. And remember, the truth that once was spoken, to love another person is to see the face of God. -Les Misérables

I am Merlin_Helz from the Beta boards.

This story has been given a facelift! Why not give it another read?

Wonderful. A touching ending and reunion. It occured to me there was one more symbolic moment that could be there. I wish their friends had met them as they stepped from that heavenbound train from King's Cross (where Harry found himself when he first 'died').

Author's Response: Thanks for the compliments! Yeah that would have been a good Idea, but maybe Harry had experienced so much more in his life that Kings Cross was no longer the gateway, that it didn't really matter where the gateway was as long as Ginny was there? *Wishes she thought of Kings Cross idea* Oh well, I'm glad you liked it anyway!

The Dark Without a Face by QueenHal

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: At Salem Witches’ Institute, the most prestigious academy for young witches in America, only a handful of girls are selected each year. Old wizarding families groom their young daughters from birth, hoping to be one of the few who get to brag at parties in the coming season about their child’s acceptance. What actually goes on at Salem is shrouded in secrecy, but the fact that it consistently produces the best and most powerful the American wizarding world has to offer seems to have been enough for the Bluebloods for centuries.

But when Libra Malfoy, daughter of foreign diplomats Scorpius and Rose Malfoy, is accepted, she’s not sure what to make of her mysterious new school. As she begins to investigate the strange happenings at Salem, she finds herself tangled in a web of deceit and danger. Could Salem’s methods be rooted in something sinister? It’s only too possible…

An intriguing beginning. You have set the stage and characters and drawn me in, so I'll have to see what follows with Libra at Salem Institute. Now if I add the nineteen years later plus say ten until Scorpius and Rose marry and then twelve for Libra's age, I get a setting in the year 2039 or beyond. I wonder if wizarding magic advances like technology does and what new things they may have in thirty years.
