Oh my!

You have no idea how excited I got when I saw this on the Recent Stories list. It has got to be one of my favourite stories on the archives. I love reading the Prewetts' and Weasleys' stories the way you've written it. :)

Just one nitpick, though:

“So,” Hestia prompted, “When are you going to see William again?”

I think the "when" should begin with a small "w".

Great story! I am so happy you're continuing it.

~Natalie.

Sorry for the double review - but I just wanted to know if Hestia's "pink stone" is a reference to Carlotta Pinkstone? Were her parents comparing her to Voldemort?

Thanks!

HYPATIA!! you are my favorite-test author on MNFF. and MNFF is the only fanfic site i have ever liked. i love your work. you add the right amount of fun, drama, romance and action in your stories. they are all well-brewed concoctions.

but don't tell me you have abandoned shadows of the past. i have always wanted someone to tell a story something bout molly, arthur and the prewett brothers. now that you have been doing it so "fantastically" well, i hope you are not abandoning it. please update soon!

OOOOH GINA!

I loved this! I mean, it'st just...this is what I was trying to convey in my duel, y'know. There's something magical and fun about their coming together. I also love how you showed James being vulnerable and Lily being fun! OMP! I am actually gonna - SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

~Love,
Natalie.

Author's Response: Hey, thanks, Natalie! I enjoyed our little J/L swap, lol! I'm glad you found it squeeworthy. I absolutely think James had to show some vulnerability to win Lily - I guess I find that sort of attractive in some of these HP guys since we don't get that from JKR much. Thanks for reading this, I appreciate the review! ~Gina :)

I was directed to your poem via the Review Circle at Poetry Anyone? (the beta boards’). I have to say I am extremely glad it was recommended, because I’d personally never have gone back so many pages to read poems, and then I would have missed this.

I loved it exceedingly! The imagery and description are just so very well done. Themes like the stars and constellations, the poignancy of transience, sacrifice – they have become so synonymous with the two Black brothers, however the way you used them in this poem was utterly beautiful. I loved the entire poem, but if I were to pick my favourite part, it would be:

that dying burst of light
blossoms before me-
a blushing chrysanthemum
of shattered sky

Heartbreaking, gorgeous images sprang to my mind as I read that.

Unlike the crit raised by another reviewer, I didn’t mind the fact that the first stanza is a fragment. I’d you have the artistic license to defy such rules when you’re writing poetry, as long as it is meaningful and fits the mood and overall structure of the poem. I was, however, a little confused by the fact that the last line began with a small “e”, but on reading the last few parts, I realized all of the lines began in the lower case. It fits the kind of hurry Regulus must have been, and the last line is definitely symbolic of his death.

Lovely poem!

Now Complete!

After a year the Epilouge is now up! Come read for a bit of fun!!

Runner up QSQ - Best Chaptered Canon Romance

Reason for Nomination:
This is the most unique take on how James and Lily really got to know each other. The story is hilarious and keeps you laughing throughout, but it never lets you forget the serious stuff. Plus, she somehow manages to end each chapter with a nice cliffhanger.

~~hestiajones
Reviewer: hestiajones Signed
Date: 06/25/09 Title: Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve: Objection!

Your story had me laughing so much I had tears streaming down my eyes. Siriusly. I have read so many takes on “How Lily came to love The Arrogant Toe-Rag” but yours is, by far, the most hilarious and innovative. I always felt that both Lily and James had to undergo a thorough study of each other’s personality and lifestyle before falling seriously in love. And you found such a clever solution! I take my hat off to you.

The only complaint I have against your James is that I think he sounds more like the son which Lockhart could have had. Provided he married someone talented. I love James. And I was a little (unpleasantly) shocked to see this exaggerated arrogance and self-love. Ok, canon tells us he was arrogant and big-headed to a certain degree, but I don’t know if it was this much. But you did show his loyal, brave, funny and courageous side. So I am not too angry with you. *Grins*

Only two more chapters? What?! No!!!! I want to read more of this. It is brilliant. (This outburst can be attributed to the fact that I saw your message just now)

Anyway, thanks for such a funny and insightful story. Do keep writing.

Author's Response: Sorry for taking so long to respond to this review, and thanks so much for nominating me for QSQ. :D

I'm glad you like this story. I too had read a lot of James/Lily fictions and I knew there had to be a real change, something in their lives that brought them together. One day this idea just popped into my head.

I didn't mean to portray James as arrogant.

Author's Response: Opps, submitted too early.

Anyway, I didn't mean to portray James as arrogant. The reason he is always looking in mirrors is he likes looking at Lily. Also, he just likes teasing her.

Yes, sadly only two more chapters and one is with my betas. Thanks for the great review and thanks again for nominating this for QSQ :D

The Lions of Gryffindor by Equinox Chick

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: It is June 1976 and The Marauders are at the top of their game. From the outside they look to have everything. But appearances, as the saying goes, can be deceptive.

James is discovering that not everything in life is his for the taking. Sirius knows he will have to defy his formidable family. Remus lives in constant fear of his life beyond Hogwarts. As for Peter... Well, Peter is struggling to live up to his friends.

The ties of friendship are strong, but war is raging and with a dark power rising those ties will inevitably fray.

Added to the mix is an adversary called Severus Snape, some lost House Points, a prank or two and a whole lot of Lily.

This is a Marauder tale.

This is a story of what made them special.

This is a story of why it started to go wrong for The Lions of Gryffindor.

OH MY GOOD GODRIC! Lions of Gryffindor won the 2009 QSQ for Best Marauders' Era Story. Amazed and incredibly grateful to those who nominated, judged and have beta'd this fic. THANK YOU.

Date: 06/06/09 Title: Chapter 11: Chapter 11 - Potent Potions

i generally avoid incomplete fanfic due to my impatience. your story and Kerichi's Our Little Secret are the only ones i have tried so far.
but i liked your title and summary so i decided to check it out. and I LOVED it. and if i were to write down every reason, i would go on for pages so i will try to keep it short.

First of all, i like your narrative style and use of language. I find it similar to that of rowling's in more ways than one and, perhaps, that was why i got so quickly attached to the story.

Secondly, i think you have done justice to the Marauders, Lily and James's parents. I found your Marauders quite superior to other portrayals. I think it was because your versions are not one dimensional and also because of the attention you pay to Peter and the conflicts you gave hem. And James's parents have truly come alive at last and I can never thank you enough.

On to Lily. For some inexplicable reason, I have never warmed to Lily. And no, it isn't the fact that I am a little fangirly when it comes to James (have been so since OOTP). He he! Maybe i found her a little too stuck-up, a little over-confident, a little unyielding. But you have changed that for me. She has become more interesting. The fact that she misses Sev in spite of the "M-word" fiasco, her attraction to Rich (though i went GRRR because of my partiality for James)...these things made her more human to me.

And, hey, you included Frank and Alice in a clever way. The other characters are also great.

However, I have a little- i don' t want to use the word "problem" though it seems to point that way- with your depiction of Snape. You handled his love for Lily and his loathing for the Marauders quite incredibly. But i wasn't too sure about his position with the Death Eaters, Mulciber and Avery. I have always pictured Snape as cocky and domineering in his own fashion. But he somehow seemed a little...er..."outshone" and cowed by the other two.

No doubt you had your reasons for that. Anyway, I want to thank you for such a wonderful story of the Marauders. Please post the next chapter soon!

Author's Response: Thank you very much for such a wonderful review. I have to say I read this and immediately started the next chapter. I'm so pleased yoi like my portrayal of the Marauders and Lily. I have a lot of trouble with Lily, because all we ever see is this perfect woman, but she would have had flaws - surely.

Regarding Snape - I see him as occasionally insecure at this age. He's lost Lily and flirting with Death Eater-ness, and I think there'd be a part of him - at this age - that would look up to Mulciber. (I have Mulciber as a year older btw). He's very definitely 'his own man' but sometimes even the most independent need the approval of their peers. OOOOH, that got kinda philosophical, and it certainly crystalised things in my mind.

Thanks again for reading and reviewing. The fic should be updated soon, and it will get completed. I promise. Carole xxx

You...cannot torture me like this.

This is brilliant, and going well. I can sort of picture Peter being very hurt by the Sonia affair. James really should stop being a coward.

Brackenfen! Hmmm...wonder where that was. Things seem to be coming together, and can't wait for what you're going to do with Soule.

Great chapter as always. Really loved the Marauderiness of the beginning.

~Natalie

Author's Response: Things are, I hope, coming together. Ah ...Brackenfen - what mysteries does it hold? Glad you liked the 'Marauderiness' hee hee - great word. I do love writing my boys. Thank you so much for R&R'ing ~EQ~

Yay! Finally, after weeks and weeks of waiting...

I loved the chapter, I seriously did. You already know how crazy I am about this fic. I am only trying to figure out where to start.

Okay, Fabian Prewett. The one thing I appreciated about your portrayal of this character is that you did not make him sound cliche - you know, how he is supposed to be all fun and cool. He is still cool, but there is that seriousness which makes him believable.

Snape- that was a clever way of introducing his skill. I have always felt that, though equally matched in talent, if Sirius and Snape were to really fight, Snape would win. He is more methodical and calculating, whereas Sirius is reckless, although braver. And the fact that Snape can read minds is a big advantage for him.

James- ha ha! he is becoming mature.

Lily- Hmm...I had expected something related to Richard would come up, but it didn't. But, no problem. I liked the fact that she asked about James' mother.

Remus- I am so sad. I think he and Mary are going to break up soon. :(

The only problem I had was James' comment about Sirius becoming a "would-be Romeo." Would James, a pureblood wizard who knows next to nothing about the Muggle world, know Shakespeare?

All in all, the chapter was worth the wait.

Author's Response: Ah-ha - she says with a look of fiendish glee in her eyes. I'm glad you brought up William Shakespeare. In an earlier Chapter (I think it was A wand, A Boggart and a Wager) I made a reference to Shakespeare being a wizard who lived amongst Muggles. It's where Snape is quoting the line "Methinks the Lady doth protest too much" or something.

I haven't done with Richard yet!

Hmm, Mary and Remus ... *sigh*.

Thank you for the review. I shall now get on with Chapter 13.

I want to say more, but haha! I'd be simply repetitive. This story is just fantastic and I don't think I have followed any other unfinished fic this religiously.

hey! i really love what you are doing. it's great to see McG, Sprout, Flitwick, Riddle, Crouch, Pomfrey, Hagrid, even Grubbly-Plank and Fairfax in their school days. You have given a credible history to Minerva, something she really deserves. very imaginative and well-woven story.

Author's Response: I agree, HJ, all these intriguing witches and wizards deserve to have their stories told, especially Minerva. JKR makes it so easy, don't you think? She has peopled her stories with such appealing characters. I've taken it as a crusade to flesh them out for all you fans.

Hey!

Another good chapter. I kile the way you wrote Hagrid's early childhood. It was an interesting, sad and believable portrayal.

I don't mind the 'shameless coincidence". We had to know about Argus; we have already heard so much about him. And the way he was being used, I suppose that could explain the bitterness that he has in the books.

However, I have a small nitpick. You know, when Armando Dippet is ready to accept Hagrid even though he is a "half-blood"? Did you mean "half-giant"?

By the way, I have nominated this fic for QuickSilver Quills Best Genral Fic. :D

Author's Response: Wow, thank you, Hestia **blushes and does little happy-dance.** As to your nitpick, it's a good point. I should have said 'half-breed.'

I dunno how I missed the update.

Anyway, the chapter I’ve been waiting for! Squeeeeeeeeeeeeee…

Now the obvious bit of clinical fangirling is over, I want to say that I enjoyed the last chapters very much indeed. Your Tonks is just so…adorable. There’s so much goodness in her it hurts when she is let down by others. And yet, she is not weak; she is strong and loyal and clever and funny and bold. Which sensible man wouldn’t want to love her, really?

You say that you struggled with this chapter, but everything flowed really well.

Ahhhh…Remus and Sirius – they reunited. And even though you didn’t go into that chapter in detail, the relief still came across. I think you have inspired me into reading POA again. Heck, I’ll go ahead and read that chapter just now.

Waiting eagerly for the next chapter.

~Natalie.

Author's Response: Thank you. I love clinical fangirling hee hee. I think I struggled more with starting it, but once I'd sussed how I'd get round all the canon bits that were necessary, then I found it easier. I had to read POA somuch in this chapter. I couldn't remember where the cloak was or anything. And where Remus bounded off to. I shall attempt to get a new chapter started, but I think Lions of Gryffindor and Lavender are waiting for updates too. Thanks again ~Carole~

Ahh...Now I see what you meant about Mary being unpopular here. Hahaha! I liked her here, though, because I love her in LOG. I thought she left him because he was a werewolf, but hmmm...Seems like Remus was being his annoying understanding self again?

This story may take ages to update :p, but it is actually picking up speed in content. Yay! I really can't wait for Sirius and Tonks to meet.

Oh! And Ted Tonks snore? Funny, I didn't know that. Hehe.

~Natalie.

P.S. A nice LOG update would make my week. Just saying.

I think my favorite part was Charity herself. Wow, now she isn't just a statistic; you gave her a believable aura.

Apart from Charity, I loved Remus' thoughts about Harry. All those missing moments, and some which you added with your ingenuity, make this story very much real to me.

Author's Response: Oh, thank you so much. I am pleased you liked Charity. I've had this thing buzzing around my head about her for so long , but I may have to write it as a one shot - ha ha. It was fun writing this because I had to re-read so much of POA (especially that Quidditch match) ~Carole~

Equinox chick, you have done it again, haven’t you?

You have written another fantastic story. If you remember, I am the one who left a review for your “Lions of Gryffindor” (my favorite Marauder Era fic, by the way), thanking you for making Lily more likeable. Which reminds me, when are you putting up the next chapter? I am waiting eagerly for it.

Coming back to “Apparently Asleep”, I want to thank you again. I always wondered why Rowling never showed us any indication of Sirius and Andromeda meeting after school. And there was no scene in her books where Sirius had an interaction with his niece. By writing this story, you have filled that void for me. I love Sirius so much that I always wanted him to have at least someone who doubted the whole “Lily and James, Sirius…How could you?” thing. The fact that that someone came in the form of Tonks made me happier. That the two had met once at least gave me a sense of comfort.

I do hope you are going to cover Tonks’ life as well as demise. I can’t wait to read that chapter where she and her favorite uncle have their reunion.

Author's Response: OOOh, thank you. Hmm, reunion, eh? Well, yes that's coming up soon, he has just escaped from Azkaban after all. It might not be quite the reunion you expect though ... This story will cover everything - including the Battle of Hogwarts, so stay tuned.

Thanks for the review and thanks for the Lions of Gryffindor mention. I'm plodding on with the next chapter - but Sirius is making a nuisance of himself *sigh*. He won't let the other characters have a look in. Carole xxx
