I've been sorted in Ravenclaw, and my fellow members of the House of Blue and Bronze have been exceptionally welcoming so far. I'm also certified by PI as a beta reader.

I finally found inspiration to write something of my own, and posted here at MNFF, as well as over at SIYE (under the same name).

Besides reading fanfiction (which I've recently gotten back into), I enjoy playing my trumpet and working with drum and bugle corps. I'm currently a music teacher, recently graduated from university.
...And that's about as much detail as I feel comfortable putting on the internet for just anyone to read. If you want to know more about me, just ask. I'm always glad to make a new friend.

Lastly, thanks to everyone here for putting up such wonderful stories to read! I really hope that you'll check out my story ("What's Your Favorite Color?") and let me know what you think.

Unspeakable by C_A_Campbell, Northumbrian

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: Unspeakable, Michael Corner, is researching time, events, and probabilities. While testing his newly-invented RANDOM system, he stumbles upon an unspeakable possibility. Former supporters of Voldemort, all acquitted for their crimes, are dying of so-called natural causes. Intrigued by the possibility that these events might be connected, Michael investigates farther. But what he discovers will test him and raise questions that all his probabilities cannot answer for him.

What is justice? And what is unspeakable cruelty?

This was a really powerful and very interesting story. It leaves a strange taste in my mouth, an unusual mixture of emotions that I haven't gotten from a story in a long time. Even though it was written from two different perspectives, it felt like one unified story. Well done.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. C_A_Campbell and I exchamged dozens of emails and several draft plot outlines before we started and we agreed (pretty much) what each chapter would contain. I think that's essential if you're trying to write a unified story, and the mystery genre demands a tight plot. I really enjoyed writing this, and I can't thatk C_A_Campbell enough. -N-

I was wondering, as I read this, if you'd had to discuss with your partner the idea of fitting this to the rest of your stories. I'm a sucker for continuity, so the fact that you've made most of your writing fit the same timeline has been great. On the (slight) downside, reading so much of your writing has made me want to accept that as the timeline to which my imagination now adheres.

Your timeline aside, this was a really good piece. I like the voice you gave to Michael, something which worried me, since the mind of an Unspeakable must be a crazy place. I think you've done a good job sharing his personality through his actions and the tone of his inner monologue (or is it outer?), rather than trying to describe it third-person. I enjoy your writing, and I really look forward to where this story is going.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review.
I honestly can't thank C_A_Campbell enough fo allowing me to channel her ideas into my timeline
I wanted Michael to be something of an obsessed, mad-scientist type. I hope I succeeded.

The Pencil Portrait Problem: A Theodore Nott Mystery by Northumbrian

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: An incredibly valuable item has gone missing, and everybody is completely stumped. There is no way a stranger could have entered the room! How was the crime committed? More importantly, whodunit? Were those blue beads on the floor before? What about those two mugs on the table? Why is Pansy sitting on Blaise’s lap?

Theodore Nott investigates.

This is Northumbrian of Ravenclaw house writing for the 2011 Mysterious May Challenge in the Great Hall, Prompt #1 – The Amateur Sleuth.

Well done. It was obvious that you gave this a lot of thought. As usual, the writing is superb, and I like this new mystery kick you're on.

Author's Response: Thank you. There is one more mystery to come, Haunted House: Dead is approaching completion. -N-

Orphans of the Storm by Equinox Chick

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: On the run for nine months, Dean spent his time deliberately not thinking of his friends as he struggled to survive, but he could not control his thoughts at night.

In his final year, Seamus longed for release from the daily torture of the Carrows' regime.

In her room, Parvati had made a list of all the things she wished to do if she survived, but wasn’t sure she could carry it through.

After the Battle, the three of them relax by the lake.

Who knew their thoughts had been so intertwined?

I don't know what you're alluding too. Perhaps I'm just a bit dense about this stuff. But it was a good read, and I liked delving into the confusing emotions of the Battle's aftermath, especially with characters whom we don't already know well. Good job!

Author's Response: Thank you very much for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the story. If you meant the allusion to the grass, that is a bit of an in joke with some of my fellow beta-board-ers. If you mean the relationship between this trio - that is open to debate. Parvati may have to choose, or she may decide not to choose ... if that makes any sense. ~Carole~

Not bad. Some of the rhymes were a bit of a stretch, but the emotion was good.

Author's Response: thank you.I know the rhymes are a bit of a stretch,as you said it,but well i can't be perfect at everything, especially poems! :) Actually this was my first time and I am a little new at this so don't judge me too harshly...but thnx to your opinions next time maybe i'll do better!Thank you for saying that the emotion was good,i was really trying to make James Potter more sensitive.hope that worked!=)

I like it. I think this will definitely make for a really interesting story. I like that you delve deeper into these other characters, and I think you're one of the best here at MNFF as far as that goes.

Author's Response: Thanks for the compliment. This is the story of "how the band got together" though hyou still won't finh out when Harry met Bobbie. -N-

Raindrops by Gmariam

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary:

He returned with a quiet sadness and a surprising new responsibility to keep him focused. She returned with a misplaced bitterness and the matching position that forced them to work with one another. This was a great chapter! I was a little hesitant throughout to really dive deep into this story (I don't like James and Lily fighting and truly hurting each other like that), but it has come to such a wonderful, such a tragic, such a REAL place. I'm glad I'm able to enjoy this story.

Author's Response: I'm glad you are enjoying the story now, I know there is quite a bit of ugly antagonism at times. And there are bits I've even toned down as the story developed. I appreciate the comment about it seeming real, because while I can picture this happening, I constantly worry it might be a bit too much. Thanks so much for giving this a try, I really appreciate the lovely review! ~Gina :)

Heat of Life by Equinox Chick

Rated: Professors •
Summary: Katie Bell was surprised to receive an official note from Harry Potter. Usually he just popped his head around the door when he wanted a chat, but then he tells her he needs her help tracking down a dangerous Dark wizard who is targeting Muggle girls.

She can't possibly refuse, especially not when it's Harry asking her.

So, I really didn't think I'd like this (you can probably guess why), but I thought it was brilliant. I love your writing though, so I gave it a shot. A great story, mixed with some wonderful moments of romance. Then it took a hard left turn into stereotypical fanfiction at the end. Which was also done very well, but felt kind of out of place with the rest of the story. I think it could have fit a little better without the detailed description. Not a complaint, just some constructive criticism.

Author's Response: Thank you for the review. I really appreciate you reading as this is obviously not your type of fic - especially due to the pairing. Now, the end, yes it was quite near the knuckle, which was why I rated it Professors, for the explicit content. The thing is, I needed there to be some 'real' chemistry between Harry and Katie because in the books, (and in fanfiction in general) Harry is quite bland in that respect (apart from his chest moster - ha ha). Also I needed to show Harry in a relationship that was different from the one I perceived him (in the canon of this story) to have been in with Ginny. So, there had to be something more X rated in the writing. Basically, if I rate something Professors, it will be because of the sexual content.

Thank you again for reviewing. I assure youy, I actually like Harry and Ginny in the books and epilogue, I just can't write them.

Somehow less downright evil and more dastardly sinister than I ever expected Nott to be.

Reviewer: GinnyPotterFan26 Signed
Date: 05/18/13 Title: Chapter 1: A Muggle's Address

I loved the rich sentiment in this. I've always enjoyed the idea that Dudley would have a child that connected him to the wizarding world, and that's possibly the one part of JKR's canon I tend to not agree with.

Troth by Northumbrian

I thought Susan was married by this point? Maybe that's something you decided after having written this. Either way, I love the character development you've done with Mark and Lavender over the years.

This was wonderful. This was on the shallow end of NG, but delightful nonetheless. I liked the very creative adaptation. Charming and full of fantastic family fluff.

Author's Response: It is very fluffy, must say. But then, it better be; I for one do not think Ginny is anywhere near sadistic enough to tell the version of this story that would give these toddlers nightmares...lol. Glad you enjoyed it!

I don't know if I enjoyed it all, but I was mesmerized by it. I couldn't stop reading. As much as I like Ginny/Harry fluff and happy endings, I think this is one of the truest tales I've read about his life after the war. And while a lot of the happy moments we all want to believe followed were still contained herein, I think you highlighted some of the dark but no less important parts of his journey after Voldemort.
