Nice!! Sad to think that this couldn't happen any more in today's PC world . . .

Potatoes weren't known in medieval Scotland and neither were anacondas . . . but apart from that, this is a great story, I'd often wondered about that squid, I hope there will be more about it - maybe a story about how it came to be immortal?

This was the first story I read when I discovered MNFF about a year ago, and when it popped up on FEATURED, I decided to reread it. It's even better the second time!!!

The Trials of Severus Snape by KarasAunty

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary:

PoA era: Severus Snape takes a thoughtful stroll down Diagon Alley at the start of the Christmas holidays, but it soon turns into a quite a harrowing ordeal for our favourite Potions Master... UK English. Contains some dark humour. You have been warned!

Characters: Severus Snape, Fred Weasley, George Weasley, Ginny Weasley, Molly Weasley, Percy Weasley and (very) minor OC's.

Very funny story! But armagod679 is right, he couldn't have known, or he'd have told Dumbldore - and D. definitely didn't know, he says so at the end of PoA!

But I'm a Weasley! by Anisky

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Rose Weasley didn't mean to be different. She didn't intend to stand out in her family. She didn't expect to be Sorted... into Slytherin.

I really like this story - although I've never met any real-life 11-year-olds able to have discussions on this level, but maybe magical children are more mature at that age than muggle ones! But very well-written, the conversations are very life-like and convincing and I am looking forward to the next chapter, should be good!

Great chapter, this story is getting more and more exciting! Only please PLEASE (and I am sure I am speaking for all the other 68262 followers of this story as well when I say this) don't keep us waiting another three or four months, or whatever it was, for the next chapter!!!

Author's Response: Thanks for the review.
It has been a lot more than three or four months, and I'm sorry for the delay. There won't be such a long wait for the next chapter. IIt won't be long before this story overtakes Grave Days as my most read.

Seven Simple Years by HalfASlug

Summary: The story of Ron and Hermione through a series of missing moments. Who said love was simple?
Reviewer: Snorkack Signed
Date: 01/17/13 Title: Chapter 18: Nineteen Minutes Later

That was really good! You know how one always wishes the books were twice as long and gave more details about all the characters - this felt like going back to a story one had already read and suddenly discovering all this extra stuff that one had somehow missed before. You got all the details right and neither Ron nor Hermione ever said or did anything out of character. Great job!!

Author's Response: Thanks for reading and reviewing! Yes, definitely - that's how I ended up writing this thing! I'm really glad that you thought this did all that stuff. Thank you so much again for reviewing :)

Teach My Feet to Fly by Equinox Chick

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: Andromeda Black is not a girl who is reckless. Risks are for the foolhardy, and she is too clever for that. But she hasn't factored Ted Tonks' persistence into the equation of her life.

And Ted wants to teach her how to fly ...

This is Equinox Chick of Hufflepuff writing for Round 2 of the Character Clinic Triathlon - Minor Characters. I chose the Music prompt.

The song that Andromeda listens to in this story is River by Joni Mitchell. It is beautiful.

Disclaimer: I am not JK Rowling. I am not Joni Mitchell. I am someone who admires both artists greatly.

Ta lotsly to the lovely Natalie (hestiajones) who beta'd this and is a truly fabulous friend.

Stolen Magic by coolh5000

Rated: 1st-2nd Years • Past Featured Story
Summary:

Samuel Radley is a wizard born without magic. Coming from a family with generations of witches and wizards, his brother Adrian has never really understood why Samuel has been left without, especially when there are others, with no magical blood at all, who somehow find themselves able to do magic. As he enters his fourth year at Hogwarts, it seems that the Ministry are finally starting to do something about this imbalance and Adrian couldn't be happier. All around him however, there is resistance to the new laws, and suddenly Adrian finds himself an outsider in his class and abandoned by his friends, when all he's ever done is love his family.

This is coolh5000 of Slytherin writing in the Great Hall chaptered challenge, for the Phoenix Rising prompt. I am pleased to say this story won in its section!

I am also really thrilled to say that Adrian Radley won the Chaptered QSQ for Best Original Character 2013! The story was also nominated in the Best General category.

Date: 02/24/13 Title: Chapter 8: Chapter 7 - Detention

I really, really like this story, it is one of the most original here on MNFF and very well written! I also like that it fits so seamlessly into what we know about the year that would have been Harry's seventh, and the glimpses of characters one knows from the books. It's really like discovering some more of JKR's story. I'd kind of given up on it, though, because there were no updates for so long - but that last chapter is brilliant and now I can't wait to see what happens next. It would be nice to hear a bit more about how Samuel does at his Muggle school, too. Anyway, do update soon!!!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the lovely review! I promise I have written 3500 of the next chapter already and I can't imagine it being much longer. My poor beta is up to her eyeballs in stress at the moment so it may be a few days until I post an update but I promise it will come! And once that chapter is done, I only have a few more to go.

I have thought about writing a spin-off about Samuel at Muggle school, but I have several other spin-offs I want to write from this story already - I think the first will probably be about Gemma and a bit more of her back story. I'm prioritising finishing this before I get too involved in those however.

Thanks again for the review :) ~Hannah

Reviewer: Snorkack Signed
Date: 10/08/12 Title: Chapter 1: Three Legged Race

Lovely story, it's great hearing about what happened to Harry before the stories start and it's a bit like a new chapter of "Strangers at Drakeshaugh" ... my favourite story on MNFF!!!

Author's Response: Thank you. I have several stories about the Potters at Drakeshaugh piling up in my head. I hope to at least get one more done before the end of the year. (it may be called A Very Drakeshaugh Christmas, or it may be called Annie Charlton and the Very Big Santa – I haven’t decided). -N-

A story of the origins of Hogwarts. 11 chapters.

It is the tenth century. Across the island of Britain great changes are taking place and history is being made. But its wizarding community is mired in division and violence, with little hope of an end. Everywhere, the future seems uncertain.

This is great fun to read, especially the historical bits (nice to find out where JK Rowling got her idea for the "Wizengamot"!!) I don't know that much about early English history (not being English) so I am finding this very interesting. I hope you will be updating soon - I'm looking forward to when they finally get down to founding Hogwarts!

Author's Response: Yeah, seeing as the setting is a thousand years ago, the origins of the word Wizengamot was an obvious thing to bring up. It's nice when these details come together. The founding of Hogwarts is the culmination of the story, this is the tale of how they got there.

The Baby in the Closet by Oregonian

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: As Harry and Ginny eagerly await the birth of their first child and their new lives as parents, Harry discovers that before he can move forward, he must take a journey into his past and revisit what has never been put to rest. This story has been nominated for a 2013 Quicksilver Quill Award: Best Post-Hogwarts Story.

Interesting subject. Is this really your first story? If it is, congratulations, it's interesting and easy to read and I'm looking forward to the rest of it - hopefully we won't have to wait too long!

Author's Response: It's my first attempt at writing fiction, and I'm finding it quite different from non-fiction or historical drama. I'm thankful to have found this site, which gives so much help from beta readers, moderators, and the reading public, not to mention the tutorial materials. Thanks for saying it's easy to read; I don't think I could write in a more convoluted style, but it is fascinating to see the many different styles that the authors have, and to try to learn from them.

Uncovered by Death by Equinox Chick

Rated: 6th-7th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: All Scorpius Malfoy had wanted on the Saturday before Halloween was to spend some time in Hogsmeade alone with his girlfriend, Lily Potter. But Fate appeared to have other plans. Working with his boss, Head Auror Harry Potter, to discover the identity of the victim, and the truth of her death, Scorpius quickly learns that not all skeletons are buried underground.

This is a the sequel to High. It is not necessary to read that to understand this, but what the heck, you might just enjoy it!

Many, many thanks to Kara (Karaley Dargen) for not only beta'ing this story, but putting up with the tortuous search for a title.
