In the Eyes of Others by Vindictus Viridian

Rated: Professors •
Summary: Severus has never seen the appeal of repetition, particularly of things that ended badly the first time. In his life, he has kept one pet, owned one broom, and had one close friend.

Winner of Mod Quicksilver Quill for Best Novel! Thanks, all!

Rating and warnings do not apply to all chapters; I just didn't want anyone hooked and then shocked.
"What is it?" His mother held out her hand, and he put the letter in it wordlessly. "Are you eleven already?"

His father lowered the newspaper to look at the calendar. "Yesterday. ‘Appy birthday." And that was the end of that.

Wow, this was amazing. It must have taken so much time and hard work to research and make sure your story was weaving in properly to cannon; create a whole new compelling story line that not only fit, but added more depth and dimension to the original story and the characters than even the books were able to do; and to make the whole thing interesting and exciting to read, despite the reader knowing what is going to happen in the end. The characterization was so realistic, you made it look easy--all the characters sounded exactly like themselves; and the pacing of the plot was so interesting, I could barely pause to contemplate what I had read because I wanted to keep reading--(which is of course a hallmark of the HP books, themselves).

At first, I wondered why you started with an alternate universe, then realized that you had written this before the seventh book even came out, which makes this even more amazing. Out of curiosity, what did you think of book-Snape versus your-Snape?

Finally, I know I touched on this earlier, but it's worth mentioning again. Your Snape felt so much more like a real person to me than the one in the books, and his self-awareness is so heartbreakingly accurate, except for the one time he says: "If I had allowed myself to love her". He did love her, he just never allowed himself to be happy. That part makes you feel so sorry for him.

I could go on and on (I just spent two days worth of free time reading this, and enjoyed every second of it.)...but I hope you write more novels and post them up, this was a pleasure, and a privilege to read.

Thank you. :)

Taking Direction by WeasleyMom

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: What if the characters in the Harry Potter films were portrayed—not by actors—but by the book versions of themselves, as created by Rowling? How might things unfold on that set? What would the characters think of the changes made from the stories they’d already lived out… to the ones written for the script?

This fic is a series of one-shots, posted as chapters, each from the perspective of a different character who is dealing with the changes occurring between the book and the script.

Holy Movie Canon, Batman! This fic won the 2011 Quicksilver Quill Award for Best Chaptered Humor Story. Thanks so, so much!

These one-shots are hilarious! What an interesting idea!! And it provides a much needed release of frustration that I'm sure many felt during the films. :)

Author's Response: Aw, thanks! So glad you enjoyed it! More to come!

Hey! I just want you to know that even though I haven't checked out mugglenet fanfiction in several months, I still came back to see if there were any more chapters added to this story (it was hilarious and memorable!) Hope you keep doing what you do! (That is my not-so-subtle way of being annoying and asking if there is more to come?) :) --sincerely, your fan! :) ps--I think there is definitely scope to publish this..!!

Forever Entwined by lucca4

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary:
“Love and hate are such strong words, they also cause so much pain.”

From the first time Rose Weasley saw Scorpius Malfoy on the Hogwarts Express, she knew they were fated to be enemies. At least, that was the plan. But as the years went on, she found that it was easier said than done. The gap between who she was and who her family wanted her to be was always widening. Her life becomes a tangled web of mistakes and regrets as she finds herself drawn to the one boy she was told to hate, until finally she makes a choice. A choice that might have just lost her the only one who had always been there for her…

Not Alone by The_Real_Hermione

Summary: Teddy Lupin appears to be surrounded by love and happiness, yet sometimes death and loneliness overshadow everything he does.
Reviewer: socks2 Signed
Date: 03/11/13 Title: Chapter 1: Not Alone

Aww...poor teddy. Very well written! I could imagine him going to the shrieking shack, though I never thought of it before.

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it, and thanks for posting a review! I think Teddy would feel really connected to the shrieking shack, because in my head canon, Harry would have told Teddy everything about his parents (so Teddy didn't have the hero complex problem Harry had with his own father), so Teddy would have felt especially connected to his father in the shrieking shack. I'm glad that was believable. Thanks again for reviewing! ~Katrina

Peace and Quiet by Simply Being

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •

WOW! This is the BEST poem that I've read on here. Most of them get so vague and abstract and boring, I always end up disappointed. This was great!! It paints the perfect picture and the words flow so smoothly and easily. I love the last line. Great work!! :)

Author's Response: Thank you for the glowing review :) I'm very glad you liked it. I enjoy getting into the heads of the characters but I enjoyed writing this one especially much. Dumbledore is such an interesting and deep character.

Snape's Death by XenaTwin

Date: 03/08/13 Title: Chapter 1: Snape's Death

aw :) You have a really great ability to transfer the emotions that were there in the chapter into poetry form. That's really hard to do, and yet you make it look so easy.

Author's Response: Thank you :) Sometimes it is very easy for me. I've always had a knack for it and poetry just comes to me and demands to be written down. But sometimes I have to really work to get some of the lines to work out correctly. Often I have to let them sit and simmer until they finally appear to my brain on their own, maybe even months later. Trying to force it into completion sooner doesn't always work out as well. For this reason, I never post anything until it feels finished to me.

amazing! you've renewed my faith in fan-fiction poetry!! :D

Author's Response: lol Thank you. I have always enjoyed good poetry and enjoyed trying my hand at it. I was not satisfied with the work I found online so I just decided I had to write what I found lacking myself. I am so glad it can be satisfying to others as well :)

Have you no pity on my tear ducts!!?!??!

Seriously, though. Very well done. My favorite part was the giraffe thing. I just wanted to give George a hug the whole time. And magic Fred back to life.

You wrote it in a way that made it so realistic, touching and honest.

But now go write something funny. Please.

Author's Response: Nope. Giraffes are pretty awesome so I can see why you liked that part. More giraffes in life would be lovely. But anyway, thank you for reading and reviewing and I'm pretty sure we can find a way to hug George. Somehow. Maybe just hug your computer and hope he can feel it or something?

Wind's Nocturne by Acacia Carter

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: There is magic the likes of which humans can barely remember and seldom experience. There is, however, a handful of men privileged enough to experience a part of it: the Dryad's Consorts.

Written for the last third of Madame Alex's Character Triathalon!

Wood-nymphs, more commonly known as Dryads, are first and last mentioned in the Potterverse by Fleur in Goblet of Fire. In Greek mythology, these cunning magical creatures are entirely female, and must capture and seduce human men in order to bear daughters and heirs to their forests. In other works of literature they are described as bold and highly territorial, with voracious, er, "appetite" for particular intimate activities. So, basically a shy Herbologist's every fantasy...
