Jan 11th: Cheers! I found someone at PI to beta for me. Colon deserves a load of thanks! Well, the next chapter is waiting in line. Let's up the hacker-problems will be sorted out soon...
I study languages, liked writing ever since I discovered the art of holding a pen, and read as much as I somehow can manage in my free time.
I started beta-reading fanfiction quite a while ago, but recently quit being a PI-beta due to real life taking over. However, I'll still give my opinion on single chapters.
My current project involves the training of my language skills by translating the story of a friend of mine, Altron.
If you're interested in reading the original, German, version (or maybe even the sequel?), drop me a message, I'll be happy to send you the links.
Every review to this story will naturally be forwarded to Altron.
Nitwit! Blubber! Tweak!
Sort me!
uuuuh, this is so great. I like your dry humor, except herms everyone seems to be just right, and well, she is victim to the plot ... so big thumps up and pams!
heippa, this is lovely! I guess we always had our ideas of what our all-time-fave-potions master would be thinking just now - but to have put into words - brilliant job! any chance to hope for an update?
*new reader* Ron's just perfect - nice one!
Hi, I generally like Slytherin!Harry stories and I know how hard it is to find a decent reason of why he'd take Malfoy's hand or decides not to argue with the Hat, however, I think that your solution is not very convincing. After just having spend the entire day tlaking and chatting with Ron, all it takes for Malfoy is to come up, obviously insult Ron and claim he met the wrong people? turns Harry into a rather unreliable character ;-)
I hope this doens't sound too harsh, it's not meant in a bad way, I'll definitely continue reading to see how things go from here.
Best!
Author's Response: It\'s okay. You\'re entitled to your opinion. Let me just say that the first chapter was written very quickly and I just never edited it after writing the rest. There is a reason for why he shook Draco\'s hand, which is something that is brought up continually throughout Harry\'s years at Hogwarts: power. You\'ll see later what I\'m talking about in chapter 12 – The Mirror. It clears a few things up.
I hope after reading some more chapters that the story will come to grow on you! And any more constructive critism is welcomed. Thanks for the review! ~Sara
I saw you had my story as one of your faves and thought I'd return the favor and check yours out and I'm gald I did! This is a really awesome poem - Thank you! ;-)
wow, Harry. That's some development, but understandable, I can't even imagine how confused he must be.
But, hey you! A cliff is fine, but violently pushing me over the edge? excuse me? What happened to Snape? I guess I'm lucky the next chap is already waiting... ;-)
Author's Response: Yes, I\'m sure Harry is confused and really it only gets worse for him as he goes. ;) Sorry to push you over the edge of the cliffhanger - this story seems to have a lot of them, large and small. There\'s lots more about Snape to come, although it may be a while before you find out what you want to know. Oh, how I love being cryptic in my responses! =)Thanks so much for continuing with the story, I hope you enjoy it! I really appreciate the lovely fun reviews!! ~Gina :)
such an evil cliff, I'm hanging here - screaming for help! woah!
Question: I seem to notice a few Moody-like features in Aberforth, or are my senses betraying me?
Author's Response: I know, some of the chapters really leave you hanging, it\'s such fun. ;) As for Aberforth\'s Moody-like characteristics - I think they both have that gruff sort of personality, so no, your senses are not betraying you. From the tiniest bit we\'ve seen I think they\'re somewhat similar, and so that\'s how my Aberforth turned out! Thanks for still reading, I hope you enjoy the rest. Thank you for leaving such nice reviews!! ~Gina :)
Aberforth is wonderful, you did a great job on him. Let's hope Harry can get some rest soon, or I'd start fearing for his sanity. I like McGonnagall in this chap, wanting to know it all, and not even getting piecesit must be hard, Dumbledore is gone, but he's still playing his games with them all.
...Ehm, I hope we'll find out about Snape's fate soon, though I refuse to believe he'd let someone like Voldy get the better of him, hihihi
Author's Response: Hi again! I\'m glad you liked Aberforth, I hope we get to meet him in Book Seven! I loved introducing him as the Order\'s go-to man here. As for Snape . . . keep reading, but I agree that he wouldn\'t let Voldemort get the better of him so easily. ;) Thank you so much for the wonderful review!! ~Gina :)
nice solution, having Snape tell Dubmledore his reasons but we're still left on our knees...so, this also sounds a tiny bit like Black might possbily still be alive, and Dumbledore! You had it all planned out! You're the true evil here! What a lovely twist.
Author's Response: Except for the bits that have snuck in, yes it\'s all been planned out. I wanted to explore the answers to some of those big questions, like how and why did Snape turn spy? The Pensieve is such a lovely device for doing so. =) I\'m glad you liked this chapter. There are some more twists coming, so enjoy! Thank you once again for leaving such wonderful reviews!! ~Gina :)
so many emotions in here, and it all just fits - amazing piece of work *sighs*
Author's Response: Thanks for the lovely compliment! This is one of my favorite chapters and I\'m so happy to get such a nice review for it! I\'m glad you are still reading - thanks again!! ~Gina :)
Hope at last. I guess Aberforth had a very busy night back then :-)
now, what about the memories? *pokes Gina*
I'm starting to consider breaking my rule of only reading two chaps each time around...
Author's Response: So why do you think Aberforth had a busy night? ;) As for the memories, keep reading, because I\'ve written them all now! I understand what you mean about reading a little bit at a time, it is hard to catch up on chaptered fics, I\'ve found. I am glad you are still reading and enjoying this one. You will be the first to know that it looks like there will be yet another extra chapter! But you still have a while till that. ;) Thanks again for the wonderful reviews!! ~Gina :)
this is one amazing beginning. Fast, hardly giving time to think, just read on and on and ... J.K. needs to watch it, I guess. :-)
Yep, was wondeirng about that, too. Even if he's good he could have taken Harry - kinda just like here - to explain.
Author's Response: Hi! Thanks for reading this story, I\'m glad you enjoyed the beginning! One really has to wonder why Snape didn\'t do anything to Harry if he really is loyal to Voldemort. There are lots of things to wonder about Snape, and Dumbledore too, which was sort of the point of this story. I hope you enjoy it - thank you so much for the review!! ~Gina :)
shoot, I hope this doesn't show double, but I was just kicked out, so here we go again:
Lupin is the perfect choice, always has been, always will. Nice one, gives us all some time to catch our breath before rushing inot the next memory.
Thanks for such a detailed answer, yes I agree with the friendship part and about the traumatic experience, I just dearly hope J.K. won't let us (eme) down on it. uhu, I'd love to read a Snape companion volume!
Author's Response: Hi there! Thanks so much for another review! I\'m glad you liked Harry\'s scene with Lupin, it is kind of a breather, isn\'t it? You are quite welcome for the detailed answer, I enjoyed the questions! I really appreciate you leaving so many reviews on this story, I hope you continue to enjoy it! Thanks again! ~Gina :)
so, you don't just manage to keep Snape so amazingly in character, you also know how to write dear Voldy.
didn't quite expect him to turn up, but it does makes sense seeing that Wormtail told him where to find his biggest enemy...anyway, great work!
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I\'m so glad you found Snape and Voldemort in character, I had so much fun writing the latter in particular for this chapter. Thanks again for the lovely review! ~Gina :)
The least he learns form this memeory is the spell to destroy the Horcruxes, a bit less of research for Hermione, hehe. So, what's Snape got to do there? I remember Dumbledore saying Snape helped him cure his arm, so I guess we'll witness that next, but what else? Harry (and Lupin) still need the answer for why Snape cast the killing curse in Dumbledore.
*claps hands* oh, I'm gald I can read on and see what your mind came up with
Author's Response: Hi! Yes, Harry now knows the spell to destroy a Horcrux. There must be a way, right? Really I just wanted him to know how Dumbledore injured his hand. I\'m still wondering how JKR can make it so difficult for Albus Dumbledore to find and retrieve the ring and the locket and then expect Harry to be able to do it as a much younger, inexperienced wizard. At least here he knows a bit more about what to expect; plus he will have Ron and Hermione with him, won\'t he? Yes, you\'ll see Snape\'s role in all this in the next chapter. Thanks so much for reading and for the wonderful review! ~Gina :)
Eeeevil. so evil. but soo good.
Finding a key moment to get Harry and Draco to work together in a believable manner is usually a difficult task, but you found a great way. It's easy to see that Harry would see the good in the other one after witnessing his misery.
Author's Response: Another thank you, I\'m glad you liked the quick fight. It was a bit tricky. I could see Harry and Draco working together, depending on where JKR takes the story. In my story, I will tell you that the togetherness doesn\'t last long. ;) Thank you for another wonderful review, I hope you enjoy the rest!! ~Gina :)
*exhales breath* It's always hard coming back to realtiy at the end of each chapter, but this one's particulary hard. It makes you wanna glomp Snape - Who can stand all this without snapping? He's in for some serious therapy (should he get out of this alive).
Will we see him again before your story ends? Alive not in a memory I mean? :-)
Author's Response: Hi there! Well, that is a great question, isn\'t it? And you wouldn\'t really want me to answer that, would you? ;) Let\'s just say I\'m having fun with his role - dead or alive - in wrapping up the final chapter. ;) You do have to feel bad for the choices he has been forced to make, or at least for the consequences of those choices. Perhaps he brought some on himself, but when it comes to straddling the fence as a spy for both Dumbledore and the Dark Lord, Snape has played a dangerous game and at least deserves some respect. Unless he turns into a total prat in the final book, of course - but I don\'t think he\'s *really* on Voldemort\'s side, nor even on his own. I do believe he is Dumbledore\'s man, through and through; and I hope JKR does as well! ;) Thanks for still reading and for leaving such lovely, fun reviews! I hope you enjoy the end of the story! ~Gina :)
Thank you! Thank you for not presenting a Lily/Snape solution. Thank you! Seriously. :-)
This gives such a reasonable explanation why Snape loathes Harry, his kido would be his age if he hadn't given in, though - I'm not sure if I missed it or am mixing sth up, but didn't he turn to the Order later? I mean after Voldy killed Maura?
Ok, Snape was friends with Lily, but she seems to be a bit suprised herself and it's probably already the third time he interfered with Voldy's plans. So. Why did he protect them by all means, risking his own life and more importantly that of his wife and unborn kid?
Sorry, if this is my brain confusing things... :-(
It's still an addicting chapter!
Author's Response: Hi Peach! I\'m glad you are still reading - and you are quite welcome. ;) I\'ll try to answer your questions. . . in my mind, Snape was indeed friends with Lily but I think they would have drifted apart once he become more involved with the Death Eaters and she joined the Order of the Phoenix. It was not the first time Snape interfered in Voldemort\'s plans for the Potters, although it was the first time he did so blatantly. I think the other two times he was much more subtle about it. Perhaps it was his former friendship that moved him; later it was the fact that Lily was pregnant. I think with his own wife expecting a child he would have been even more likely to want to save Lily Potter. This third time he was sent himself, and I think actually seeing Lily really moved him to throw the attack. He may not have even realized he was putting his own family in danger; but of course he did, and the consequences were tragic. I think this hardened his heart and closed his mind, and sent him to Dumbledore. So - does that help? I just think something major and traumatic must have happened to push Snape away from the Dark and back toward the Light, and I do think it happened earlier than we are lead to believe in the books. Or, at least it\'s possible - who knows what JKR has in store for us! I do hope we learn much more about Snape in the last book. He could probably have a companion volume all his own, imagine that! I hope that answers your questions, thanks so much for asking! I\'m glad you still enjoyed this chapter, and hope you enjoy the rest. Thank you so much for the wonderful reviews!! ~Gina :)
hehe, 'being brave enough' xD
I like to review pieces I betaed, so please forgive if this is a déjà-vu for you now:
You've got an exceptional style of describing the dementor's misery, I actually felt sorry for 'him'.
-Nessie
Author's Response: Lol, thanks so much Nessie - you were particularly brave with taking this on. Thanks for being such a great beta and so lovely to work with!
I saw the story being advertised in a sig in the beta-forums, violently asking me to check it out and .... this is hilarious! woot! His Lordships entrys already made my day and when I got to the comments...soo loovely. The usernames are perfect!
RANDOM THING OF THE DAY NOT TO TRY AT HOME, KIDS - this almost made me spill my coffee... xD
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I love seeing new readers. His Lordship will be very pleased to hear this!
