Senses by Gryffinpuff

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Sense: a word of so many meanings. This is a story about senses. The common sense notion of self preservation that is lost when friends are in need, the senses of the body that can be damaged so easily, and the intuitive senses of the heart that tell you when things have changed. R/Hr focused with a little bit of H/G, not a lot of fluff, with rotating views between the characters on a truly horrific day.

Quicksilver Quills Runner-Up - Best Romance, Canon

Really lovely story! You had me worried there at the end for moment, but the resolution was great. Though I think there are enough gaps in closure for a sequel...? :) Also, the small moment throughout--particularly between Ron and Hermione--were especially touching. Wonderful job!

I don't read much Harry/Ginny, but this was very sweet... I had a feeling it might be going in that direction, but you handled it very well. :) congrats on the award!

A Little More Time by Pallas

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: Was it possible to save two lives in the past without altering history? Was it possible to give his parents a future twenty years after they had supposedly died? Teddy Lupin thought so...
Reviewer: FinnFiona Signed
Date: 01/28/08 Title: Chapter 16: Restraint

I've been watching this story somewhat surreptitiously for awhile now, and I think it's high time I said that you're doing a stellar job--particularly with the character development of people who we never had a chance to know fully.

The Letter by Cassandras Cross

Rated: 6th-7th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: DH SPOILERS! Harry is so consumed with his career as an Auror that he loses touch with Ginny and their children until a letter arrives to help him remember what really matters. But is something sinister waiting out there to take it all away? An escape from Azkaban, the first in twenty years, stirs up Harry's worst fears from the past as those he loves are threatened.

Romance, mystery, and drama combine to make this a story you won't soon forget! Set one year before DH epilogue. Completely canon compliant. All reviews receive responses.

THE EPILOGUE IS UP! I don't know whether to laugh or cry as this story comes to an end, and Harry finally figures out where it's really at. (Thanks again to the amazing mods for your rapid-fire response!)

Glad to read your response--I too prefer to read a good fic that creates a story within canon. And I agree, people do some some pretty idiotic things when they're young (not that idiocy can't creep into later adulthood as well--which you've been good to include in your work here). I suppose I'd still just like to think that even at those young ages, our heroes might have learned from their 9 plus years of friendship and not have gotten into quite the same messes. It's just a personal... preference, I guess you might say--I'm rather attached to them, after all, and hate to see them bollocks things up so royally :) But I'm glad you worked it out for them--and your's is a perfectly legitamate and lovely interpretation of the future, so hat's off to you! Once again, very nice work. I'll be looking out for the epilogue--cheers!

Author's Response: lol! Yes, idiocy is certainly not limited to youth. One need only examine most governments to know that it is no respecter of age, but youth does seem to attract an unusual number of \"messes\" as you put it. And with Ron & Hermione, especially, you\'ve just got to know that their courtship could not have been simple or easy. I\'m not sure I get their relationship. I adore them and find the whole thing highly amusing, but I can\'t quite figure how they make it work. I\'m certain they do, but I don\'t quite understand it. Thanks for th extra review. I love \'em and I\'ll take as many as I can get. Cheers to you too!

Oh, what a lovely little ending! Very heart-felt, I can tell--it really made me smile :) The parallels and attentions to JKR's works are more clear than ever, which is very nice--although I'd say again, don't be afraid to explore your own motifs and ideas, as I'm sure they'd be wonderful as well. Oh--and as to your earlier response, I agree--Ron and Hermione can't have had an easy time of it (though, neither, as you make clear, could Ginny and Harry), though I must admit I've always understood their relationship and seen its promise a bit more clearly than Ginny and Harry... Isn't it interesting how those things work out... JKR really does write for everyone, doesn't she? :) At any rate, please do write more--I'd love to read (and review ;) ) it!

Author's Response: I will almost certainly be exploring more of my own motifs if the plot bunny that\'s currently bouncing up and down rather annoyingly inside my head right now develops into something, because it\'s a full-length fic with Teddy as the central character. Since we know little about him via canon, I\'ll pretty much have to start from the ground up, but some of the things that came to me during this story will serve as the basis for it. Most of the people I talk to seem to like Ron & Hermione better for some reason. Maybe because they\'re quirkier and funnier (and therefore more \"interesting\" I suppose) whereas Ginny & Harry have more of an internal, \"soul\" connection which I personally find more interesting but I seem to be in the minority. There have been so many wonderful Ron/Hermione stories written, however, and fanfic writers seem to either ignore Harry/Ginny or fluff the poor things to death, turning Ginny into sort of a British Gidget, with a wand instead of surfboard. Anyway, I chose a Harry/Ginny focus for that very reason. Also because, as I said, I find them intriguing and there was such a lack of interaction between them in the books. Anyway, thanks for your comments. They are very much appreciated. Hope to hear from you again when I post my Christmas story (another Harry focus, BTW). Take care!

Well, I suppose I'm weighing in a bit late, but I did want to let you know it's a lovely story. You've obviously gone to great lengths to stick to canon, and it all flows very nicely and methodically--though I wouldn't be afraid to put your own spin on things even further in the future! :) I also thought you're characterization was almost entirely spot-on, though I think I personally would hope that Harry and company might've grown up a bit more in all those years. Not to say that we don't always have a bit of maturing to do, but thinking of Ron and Harry still having month-long falling outs and Ron (and Hermione for that matter!) being so daft in those earlier parts of their relationship... well, it pains me a bit! At any rate, I enjoyed the read. Well done!

Author's Response: Thanks for your review. I am indeed a big believer in canon. I\'ve always wondered at some of the AU fics in terms of why the authors don\'t just change the names of the characters and publish them as original fiction. The purpose of fanfiction, at least the ones I enjoy reading, is to expand an existing world, so yes, I do stick to the story lines Jo established. As to Harry & Ron\'s tiff and Hermione\'s romantic machinations, keep in mind that these characters are reflecting on things that happened when they WERE much younger. By the time this story takes place, however, Harry has forgiven Ron and even acknowledged that the tiff was mostly his fault, and Hermione is enormously embarrassed at the memory of her 21-year-old self using McLaggen to make Ron jealous. I did much sillier things myself when I was 21 (I\'m a tad older than that now!). So I think they have matured, but whenever human emotions are involved, people do daft things, and wizards & witches are probably no exception. At any rate, I really do appreciate your comments. I\'ve just posted the Epilogue, so it should be availabe for you to read (and hopefully review) very soon.

aww, very sweet! even though you took a few liberties with the story, it still feels rather realistic. the style is refreshing too :)

these are really lovely little vignettes--I think you've captured aspects of the children's characterization that is quite believable, and in a refreshing way. my only criticism is that you have a few inconsistencies in verb tense, and other small grammatical errors (i.e. preposition and word choice...) anyhow, I look forward to reading more!

Author's Response: Thank you, it\'s always good to see new people signing reviews and likung my story. I\'ll post the new chapter at 3th January, I promise.

Very sweet! I hope you'll continue to write. Also, as a friendly sidenote: I'm sure you've seen it already, but as I know you like to keep within canon--there's a new interview, on the Leaky podcast I believe, with Jo... Has some more tidbits to help shape your endearing and entertaining version of "reality". :) Keep up the good work!

Author's Response: I have heard the Leaky podcast and I\'ll certainly be tuning into the other half of that interview next week. Actually, I was rather pleased to see that some of my \"guesses\" match Jo\'s version of reality as well. I am certainly continuing to write. I\'ve started a new fic that doesn\'t rely quite so much on canon evidence as it focuses primarily on a character that was barely introduced in DH, Teddy Lupin. However, Jo may come out with additional facts about him that could blow my theories all to hell, so it\'s always a gamble. Thanks for reviewing and have a very happy holiday season.

Fragmentary Blue by Hatusu

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary:

The whole world has gone crazy, tipped on its side, changes happening so quickly that Harry can’t keep track of them all. He isn’t at the centre of it anymore – he’s drifting peacefully somewhere on the very outer rim, and he likes it this way, and he never wants to go back.

He has a dream one night. Soft hands lift him out of his bed. He opens his eyes and their faces are like maps of a country he’s never been to but has always wanted to go. They say they’ll take him to a place where all he has to is breathe.

He says okay.

After Voldemort's defeat, Harry struggles to come to terms with love, death, and the end of innocence. One-shot. Rated for very, very mild sexual implications.

Refreshing writing style--sort of a different way of looking at Harry's process after the war, but it rings true I think. My only bit of constructive criticism would be the last sentence--it just doesn't quite flow as well as the rest of your writing, which really has a nice rhythm to it. At any rate, nice job--keep writing!

Author's Response: Thanks, I\'m glad you think it\'s a realistic depiction, and criticism is always helpful, since I\'m not the best judge of my own writing. ;)

Summary: Of peace, love, generosity, and those no longer with us.

A fitting tribute, nice work. (Much as I hate to see Ron so thick-headed, it probably isn't too far out of character :) ) Keep writing!

Author's Response: Ron has always been dense and I think that that specific trait is going to stick with him for life. Oh well...Thanks for the review!

Great Expectations by Cassandras Cross

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: A weekend trip to the mysterious Rose Cottage leads to Ginny's second pregnancy and Hermione's first. The Potters and Weasleys take on “The Next Great Adventure” as they anticipate the births of Albus Potter and Rose Weasley.

NOW COMPLETE!

Reviewer: FinnFiona Signed
Date: 01/27/08 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Wistful Looks

It's so exciting to see another story from you--and this one looks just as promising. Easy to read style, as always, and tastefully done--and a good amount of humor too--I must say, the "stud horse" comment raised quite a chuckle out of me. I'm also interested to see where the Ginny point of view goes--I think I'm convinced so far--it's hard, as we leap into their adult sensibilities, but I think there's a certain truth in your portrayal. I see that you've already submitted the next chapter, so I look forward to reading it!

Author's Response: I find it harder to write from Ginny\'s POV than from Harry\'s, possibly because there is no Muggle experience on which to draw, but considering the subject matter I felt there was no choice. I have succumbed to the temptation to switch back to Harry a few times in this story, though hopefully it\'s neither obvious nor awkward. I\'m glad you\'re enjoying it. Thanks so much for your review.
