Snowflakes by The_Dream_Team

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: And there he was. The one boy she could not stand. His messy, jet black hair was ruffled and untidy and his glasses were sitting crooked on his nose. James Potter was here. With Lily. And all her Muggle friends. At a Muggle ski resort. Could things possibly be worse? Oh yeah, Sirius Black is there, too.

That is not fair! A cliffhanger? Ah well, the chapter was sweet. Lily needed to have snogged James senseless though. We all know she wants to...really bad!

Author's Response: Haha I'm sorry, it's just so hard to resist the cliffhangers! Glad you liked the chapter, anyway :) And we'll have to wait and see what Lily does in the future! Thanks for reading and reviewing :D

A Different Kind of Magic has been nominated for the 2011 Quicksilver Quills: Best Canon Romance. Thank you!

I really liked Sirius in this chapter, I always like him, but I really liked him in this. I dunno why. Also, I think you wrote Lily's reaction to James leaving very well. Her frustration was very realistic and just all around well written. Well done! I really want to know what James' deal is, what's going on with his family and all that. He had better have a good reason for leaving.

Author's Response: Thank you very much for the lovely and detailed review!! I'm happy that you liked the chapter! I'm especially glad you liked Sirius, because he's one of my favorite characters in canon and I want to do him justice. Also, I did try to make Lily's angst understated but still appropriately...angsty. James does have a good reason for leaving...just wait for chapter 11!

September 2012: HEY guess what I couldn't wait, and the third installment, "World Enough," is UP NOW under James/Lily. Or just under my name. Or at this link: http://fanfiction.mugglenet.com/viewstory.php?sid=92131. Yay! :D

Over-all this was a wonderful chapter, but I do have a few critique points to make. In the beginning of this chapter Sirius used the word "sassy". Although I adore that word and love that you used it, sassy is not a British word. Something my beta, who is from England, told me when I once used it. She had no idea what that word meant. The word "Cheeky" would fit much better with this. Also when James say's "No, Professor Trelawney" I just wanted to remind you that Trelawney was not teaching at Hogwarts when James and Lily were at Hogwarts. I think in the fifth book she said she had been teaching fourteen years. So that would have put her at Hogwarts after Harry was already born. Just thought I would put that out there. Over-all though this was a solid chapter and the date was way cute. Cheers!

Author's Response: Oh, good catch--fixed it, thanks!

Ahh! I hate hate hate it when chapters end on cliffhangers! I hope you know how fantastic this story is. I read this one and Trickster in one sitting and I really love how you developed each of the charecters. Great work and I can't wait for the next chapter!

This chapter was well worth the wait! I loved the bit where Lily and James are on the bed talking together. It was very sweet. Post when you can!

Fool Me Twice by Dawnie

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary:

Lily Evans is pretty, intelligent, vivacious… and accused of murder. James Potter is privileged, arrogant, and conceited… and her best chance at avoiding Azkaban. If only he wasn’t convinced of her guilt.

With a war looming in the background and evil slowly seeping into the wizarding world, seven years of secrets unravel, and two very different people find themselves caught up in a battle against privilege, intolerance, and greed.

But even in the darkness, and even in the despair, there is still friendship, and love, and hope.

I loved this chapter! The back story Dumbledore gave was very interesting. And I really liked the slight cliff hanger at the end! The plot thickens!

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it! The plot is thickening, and Dumbledore will continue to show up every now and then.

So, I really like Lily, and I really like James. And I like that Lily is beginning to trust James. I HATE Lestrange, and I think Bellatrix attacked Frank....because she's a bitch and that sounds like something she would do. Also, I really like this story because it's so different!

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm glad you like Lily and James and the story. I was so worried about writing it because it is so AU and different from all the things I've read. But I'm still trying to keep it as canon as possible (which is an odd thing to say about an AU).

Yay the trial has begun! I love reading trial scenes in stories, and you did a very good job with it! Lestrange is a douche...I'll leave it at that and I'm glad James was able to one-up him. Great chapter, I can't wait for the next one!

Author's Response: Thanks! Unfortunately, Lestrange still has several more witnesses to call, so the trial is far from over and James will have his work cut out for him.

Ohhhhh dang! So I'm betting Lily did kill Malfoy, bit maybe out of self-defense or maybe she was saving someone else? I don't know. But I'm loving this story even more with every chapter! Keep it up!

Author's Response: Thanks! Well, everything will be revealed by the end of the story, but there is still a lot more mystery left to solve. But I'm always happy to hear your theories!

This is just getting better and better! I seriously think that this object is a Horcrux of some sort...or something very similar, because I don't see Voldemort making a huge deal over something unless it's got his soul inside. But as always, I could be very wrong. I want to know where it is, like everyone else. Keep up the fantastic work!

Author's Response: Thanks! I don't think the revelation about the object will come for a few more chapters, but I always like hearing people's guesses!

I really, really, really liked the ending! It ended happy but with a hint of darkness looming in the very near future. I KNEW the object was a horcrux, that's the only thing Voldemort really, truly cares about anyway. Fantastic job with this. I enjoyed reading every chapter! I can't wait for your new story, I shall keep an eye out for it!

Author's Response: Thanks! Yes, there is still darkness looming in the future, and James and Lily will have a lot to face in the coming war. But Lily finally has people on her side, and James has people who believe in him, so there is some definite happiness in the ending.

Okay, that object MUST be a Horcrux because Regulas knew about those and I'm almost 100% sure he was the one who told James everything. Also, my theory about Narcissa killing Lucius is getting stronger....i guess. She could have gotten super upset over Voldemort's plot to take over the world an got carried away, and Lily was the sole witness. Anyway, that is all. I love this story, great chapter!

Author's Response: You'll find out about the object soon enough. And I do like hearing your ideas about Malfoy's death. In just a couple chapters, you'll get to find out how right or wrong your theories are. :)

I knew it! Lily killed Malfoy! I don't know if I;m happy or not though. If it were me I would have castrated the git, but killing is much cleaner i guess....I sound crazy. Anyway, I am interested to read how James reacts to this news. And as usual, I'm interested in what will happen in trial!

Author's Response: Thanks. I agree that Malfoy was a git, but James is going to have some trouble dealing with the fact that Lily actually killed someone. Still, he doesn't have the full story yet (and won't for a while, because Lily has quite a few secrets she hasn't shared yet).

Well, I'm glad that as far as the trial goes, things seem to be looking up. But, I know that everything is far from over. I'm also beginning to think that Lily is covering up for Remus as far as Malfoy's death is concerned...unless Narcissa Malfoy killed her husband. But that last bit is just my imagination running wild with me. Only you know the full story. And I beg you to keep up this amazing story so that all of us reading it may find out everything as well.

Author's Response: Thanks! Yes, things are looking up with the trial, but that doesn't mean that it is going to be smooth sailing from here on out. I really enjoy hearing your guesses about Malfoy, although the full revelation is still a few chapters away.

Ahh! I really, really wan to know what this object is. I keep imagining something that could be a Horcrux, but I have no idea why. I really liked this though, I love how everything is changing for James, his perspective and how he views Lily. I'm really excited to read about the trial too! Good work on this!

Author's Response: Thanks! The object is going to remain a mystery for a while, but I'm always happy to hear guesses. Not that I will confirm your guess one way or another, though... :) I always thought that James probably had no idea what it was like for Muggleborns before dating Lily (kind of the the same way Ron knew nothing about the Muggle world before befriending Hermione), so I'm trying to keep that aspect of canon in this story. The beginning of the trial should be coming soon (that chapter is now in the queue).

This was so well done! I was shaking my fist and swearing under my breath at Lestrange and Bones. I was shaking with rage and I wanted to punch every bit of of those characters. No often do I get that worked up over a character. James is my favorite. He has been amazing to read about and to see how his feelings and ideas changes, so I want to congratulate you on your James. Well done. I can't wait to see how the trial ends and to see how everything else gets resolved!

Author's Response: Thanks! I was angry with Lestrange and Bones when I wrote this chapter (and the entire story), too. James is a lot of fun to write and I think he is in a very interesting position of being a wealthy pureblood from a very prestigious family, and yet not prejudiced by blood purity. There aren't that many of them in canon.

SHE AND JAMES WON! That bit made me happy, but I know things are far from over. I liked the kiss between Lily and James too, I had no idea it was coming but at the same time it just worked with what was going on. So well done with that. Also the bit with the Lestranges and Greyback was totally awesome. I thought it was Bella who killed Remus, because it would be cannon for her to use a knife like she did in DH, but you having Greyback do the killing was a much better fit. Werewolf on Werewolf...epic. I still think the missing object is a Horcrux and Narcissa killed her husband, that's why she sucks when it comes to testifying in court.

Author's Response: Yes, she and James won. Although a war is starting, so they haven't really won yet. The next chapter is in the queue, and should finally offer a lot of answers (although, as usual, not all of them).

Oh my gosh, I loved this. I feel like it was Regulus under the mask. But, there really is no way of knowing...yet.

Author's Response: Thanks! I always like getting guesses about the plot, and don't worry, you'll find out who was under the mask in a few chapters.

EXCERPT

It’s been a month, and the wound is still raw and fresh as ever in my mind. It hurts to know that what we had once is now gone. All because of one word, one choice.

I know that Dumbledore always says that it’s the choices we make that set us apart. But I hate the fact that we are forced to make a choice and take a side. If only he hadn’t been in Slytherin, if only he hadn’t been into the Dark Arts, if only he wasn’t taking that side, if only he didn’t call me that word.
