A wise man had once told Harry Potter this simple phrase. Harry, in turn, passed on this advice to a brooding Teddy, who suffers once again as the Christmas holidays approach. More than he shows, the death of his young parents affect Teddy. They shouldn't have died, it should have been somebody else. Yet, Teddy has been forced to grow up without them, envious of those with loving parents. Victoire can't help but wonder why Teddy is unable accept the amount of love he has around him. Maybe, with a little persuasion and some good advice from a caring godfather, Teddy can finally get over the death of the parents that he never had the chance to know.

Character Death warning for previous deaths. They don't actually occur in the story.

Curriculum Vitae by Hermione_Rocks

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Ever since the war ended, Theodore Nott has found little solace in anything, save for his Firewhiskey purchases. Due to happenings and circumstances, he runs into the most unlikely people and places, ones that may just be able to help him as he trundles along through life.

This is a story of pain, loss, regret, bitterness. This is a story of joy, laughter, forgiveness, hope. It's a story of second glances, second considerations, second chances. And first chances too. Curriculum Vitae is Latin for: The course of one’s life.

This story was the overall winner of the '07/'08 Winter Tales Challenge. It also took the 2009 QSQ award for Best Post-Hogwarts Chaptered story. I am as stunned as I am grateful. Thank you.

The Patient by MaiaMadness

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary:
“I’m still right here, giving blood and keeping faith, and I’m still right here.
If there were no rewards to reap, no loving embrace to see me through this tedious path I’ve chosen here, I certainly would have walked away by now.
I’m gonna wait it out. Be patient…
If there was no desire to heal, the damaged and broken met along this tedious path I’ve chosen here, I certainly would have walked away by now.
And I still may.”

Neville sits in St. Mungo’s, contemplating the futility of sitting there, hoping that his parents will get better and knowing they won’t; wondering if he’ll ever dare to allow himself a life; wishing that things had been different, that he’d had a mother’s arms to comfort him when he was sad, that he’d had a longer childhood and that he dared tear himself off the path of tedium and self-pity he is on to go talk to someone who cares…

Oddly enough, this story was inspired by the following quote:

Were a star quenched on high,
For ages would its light,
Still travelling downward from the sky,
Shine on our mortal sight.
So when a great man dies,
For years beyond our ken,
The light he leaves behind him lies
Upon the paths of men.
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
